The late is beautiful. Of the way past the fishing bridge to the east entrance there is a road that takes you up high and you can get amazing views. It’s stunning.

We drove by this lake for about 1/2 hour. It’s massive, like one of the Great Lakes back in the Midwest. We stopped at West Thumb and walked down to the shoreline. I like the story about hot spots in the lake and how the fish have adapted. It’s just another fantastic feature in a fantastic National Park.

If you visit West Thumb Geyser Basin, you can walk a long boardwalk trail that goes along the shores of Yellowstone Lake. There are many geothermal features to see along the trail. Yellowstone Lake is quite large and you can access it at several places.

We're Montanans, and try to visit Yellowstone every year or so. This year, we spent a little time along the lake, and greatly enjoyed it. The views across the lake, with all the mountains, are truly world class. We tried a little fishing from the Gull Point picnic area. Some very nice picnic spots on the lakeside. We saw a kayak tour along the lake near the lakeside thermal areas. Someday, we'd like to take our canoe out on the lake. However, be aware that winds can come up quickly and make self-propelled boating dangerous. And there are also motor boats on the lake, some of which go way too fast and kick up significant wakes. So....plan carefully, be prepared for bad weather, follow park rules, slow down and be respectful.

During our trip to the park, we drove around searching for a nice spot to see Yellowstone Lake. We finally found it when we arrived at the Fishing Bridge Visitor Center. This spot offers the opportunity to walk around the beautiful shoreline and enjoy the vastness of Yellowstone Lake. We were stunned by the size of the lake and its undeniable beauty. At this spot, you can see the endless blue lake stretching out before you, providing breathtaking scenery.
Yellowstone Lake is the largest high-elevation lake (above 7,000 feet) in North America, covering approximately 136 square miles (352 square kilometers) with over 110 miles (177 kilometers) of shoreline. It sits at an elevation of about 7,732 feet (2,357 meters) above sea level.
After seeing it for ourselves, it easily became a must-see destination that we would recommend to anyone visiting Yellowstone National Park.

Large lake that cuts through Yellowstone Park. It can be seen from several different locations within the park. I saw it in Lake Village, where there's even a "little beach" on site.

It is a good time to visit, but there is only one road open which is from Gardiner to North East entrance. You visit Mammoth Hotsprings and Lamar Valley. The snow coach and snow mobile starts after 15 December 2023.
Its is good time to visit. Less crowded.

We saw this beautiful lake as we drove from the Old Faithful area to Lake Lodge cabins. It’s a huge lake with mountains in the background. It also has some geothermal activity going on along the shores. It was lovely to admire.

Being where it is I was amazed at the size of Yellowstone Lake. The waters appear to be very clear. Yellowstone Lake lies in the caldera of an ancient but still active volcano. 640,000 years ago the dome of the caldera collapsed creating the Lake as we know it today. Before the collapse Yellowstone Lake actually covered most of the Hayden Valley. There is a section of the Lake known as the West Thumb.

We booked a two hour guided fishing tour last minute due to a cancellation- we were happy there was an opening. Our guide was Jack and he was AMAZING. Four of us went and two of our group fished. To get off the road and out of the car onto a boat skimming across the water of Lake Yellowstone was incredible. A knowledgeable guide, Jack was also personable and made the 2 hour trip fun and informative. The guys caught fish and we ladies relaxed on the boat, taking in the sights. We heartily recommend the experience.

At the Lake hotel, does anyone know where the business center is located (with computers for guests to use)?
Skrevet 2. oktober 2017
I did not stay there, however, I would contact the hotel and ask them, try searching Yellowstone hotels here on trip advisor to
get connected. I stayed at Grant Village and was able have the staff at the Lodge at Old Faithful help with a question and a
hotel change. Have a great and safe trip

As others have said, it may be difficult to get there, but if you can (and tough it out), I suspect it would be really beautiful. No waterfalls, I imagine.

Boat ride sounds a great idea. Are there numerous companies? Which di you select? Where are they located on the lake? What is the charge per adult?
Thank you

Hi, need advice from someone who has visited Yellowstone National and knows the area over all really well. I am a 28 year old guy taking my parents currently in their 60s. Please advise sites which are friendly for elderly people since my parents won't be able to do hiking or walk too long on steep trails. These are the list of places I have chosen to visit with my parent since we will mostly driving around with our car:
Please tell me if any of these spot requires too much walking or has steep trail?
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
Artist Point
Old Faithful
West Thumb Geyser Basin
Geysers - Mud Volcano Area
Midway Geyser Basin
Norris Geyser Basin
Biscuit Basin
Boiling River
Firehole Canyon Drive
Upper Geyser Basin
Lower Yellowstone River Falls

Avoid going on trails to Canyon falls the upper and lower falls, they are bit steep and not recommended for old people with heart and breathing issues. Artist point gives a good view of the lower falls from a distance. Mammoth Hot springs has a steep trail with lot of stairs. But drive up to the trerrace area to have a good view of the whole mammoth hot springs Terraces without much of strain.

Any recommendations about time of day to take the cruise? Is it cold in morning/evening? We will be there 1st week of August.
Skrevet 21. juni 2016

Had a few questions, there are 19 of us going, my wife and I our 4 children and their spouses along with their children arriving from 3 different states. Is there a place where we can gather in the evenings perhaps around a camp fire? Also a couple of the kids have severe food allergies, if we brought the food that they need could the hotel refrigerate and prepare it, we are staying in the frontier cabins at the Lake Yellowstone hotel and to my knowledge are unable to at the cabins.
