Viewpoint to see the waterfall and the colors of the canyon! There are always people but in September a little less so you enjoyed a beautiful view!

This stop according to our guide was located at the end of South Rim Drive. There is a clear path to the point with stone steps and railings. If you’re in a wheelchair you can only go so far because of the steps. There is no restroom at this attraction. The view is worth it!

Nice parking lot at the end of the South Rim Drive. There is a short paved walkway out to the end. Here you will find a huge multitiered observation area where each level is better than the last. It got its name from a famous painting by Thomas Moran. Best time to visit is early in the morning for best light, but we were there about noon and it was glorious. We were going to go back in the morning but it was so foggy when we left Canyon Lodge, there was no way we could see anything. One of the highlights of our trip, for sure.

Breathtaking views … a MUST see aptly named natural beauty!
Make sure that you have plenty of time and energy to visit this area as you can have areal views as well as very up close views of the waterfalls and the grand canyon of Yellowstone. Be prepared with hydration, good hiking shoes, rain gear (from water spray/mist) as well as trail safety items. Then, just enjoy this mother nature’s amazing creation that is still in process!

Artist Point got its name from Thomas Moran's paintings of this area. His paintings helped convince Congress to set aside Yellowstone as a National Park. Moran painted the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Look at the color of the rocks. This is how Yellowstone got its name.

We're Montanans, and try to visit Yellowstone every year or so. The crowds in some of the park wear us out, but there are some sights that are worth braving those crowds. We stopped ata Artist Point on a sunny June weekday. We got a parking spot, and walked to the viewpoints. There were lots of people, but the vibe was upbeat and friendly. A ranger was giving talks on the history of the falls. The view of the falls and the canyon is indeed world class, and we never get tired to seeing it. So...it is indeed worth braving the crowds to see. Just be prepared for the crowds, slow down, relax and follow the rules. Don't be pushy. This place is truly a national treasure.

Place where one of the pioneers who explored the park painted a picture of one of the waterfalls. One of the most visited places in the park. Fantastic view.

Gracias

Is this accessible when the road from Norris to Canyon is open but the road from Canyon to Lake closed in end of April?
Skrevet 24. januar 2018
That is difficult to answer/predict. The only reliable method is to watch the YNP website, under "alerts." Road closure and openings are usually announced.

Is this spot still accessible with the construction going on? We will be there the second week in September
Skrevet 26. juli 2017
Yes it is open, the construction is at Tom's Trail parking area. You will pass it on the way to Artists Point. The parking is limited, September will be easier....but I would still try to get there early. It has one of the smallest (fewest spaces) parking lots in the park.
It is certainly worth going, absolutely beautiful, I wouldn't miss it! Have fun, it's going to be a great trip.

Sorry about the typo ..... long distances and rough terrain are a problem for my husband.
Skrevet 30. juli 2016
How difficult is the walking,, my husband cannot walk long distancestors or on rough terrain.
Skrevet 30. juli 2016
I was able to manage it on a broken foot using a cane - assuming you get a nearby park (and there was plenty of parking available when I visited but I was visiting very early in the season) there should not be an issue. If the carpark is busy I would suggest dropping your husband as there is seating where he could wait for you to return after parking
