It's believed that Daksha, the father-in-law of Lord Mahadev, holds significance in the lore surrounding the temple. Upon entering, you're greeted by a striking statue depicting Lord Mahadev carrying the lifeless body of Sati. The temple boasts ample parking space for visitors' convenience. Make sure to utilize the counters provided for storing your footwear; refrain from leaving them near the entrance, but rather place them securely until you locate the designated shoe stand. Inside the temple, you'll find a few small shops offering food items, adding to the experience. Though there might be a modest queue for darshan, the wait is typically brief. The temple grounds are adorned with several other shrines, creating a serene atmosphere. Adjacent to the temple flows the holy Ganga, inviting visitors for a purifying bath. Overall, the temple is a testament to divine beauty and is undoubtedly a must-visit destination.

This temple is central to the holiness of Haridwar and in the heart of Kankhal which the oldest part of town. Understanding the story of the death and commemoration of Lord Shiva’s wife is fascinating. The area has offices of the 13 Hindu cults/denominations and many ashrams. The walk along the water front of the Ganges is spectacular including sights of cremations.

We visited the temple during the afternoon hours in our recent trip to Haridwar. We had a wait time of 30mnts. or so and had a lovely darshan. We used an e-Rikshaw to get to the temple from our hotel. There are counters to deposit your footwear within the temple complex. So, keep your footwear on until you are inside the temple complex. The grounds were hot and we couldn't be without our footwear for long. Parking is available. Enjoy your visit and do not go in front of other people who are waiting in line.

The temple is a beautiful place with the environment offering peace and tranquility. It is primarily famous due to the story that this was the same place where goddess Sati burnt herself by jumping into the fire, and the same kund, as they call it, is also revered and worshipped here. The temple area is divided into various parts, and almost all the important Hindu deities are worshipped at this place. However, it is clearly stated that clicking photos inside the temple premises is strictly prohibited.

The area behind the temple is serene. There is a ghat built where people perform puja. You can also sit and relax since the water flowing is soothing to watch, and dipping your feet in it helps you calm down due to the cool temperature. But overall, this place is worth the visit partly due to its importance in the Hindu scriptures and also because of the aura the area has of making you feel calm and composed !!!!

Daksha Mahadev temple is located in Kankhal area of Haridwar. This is about 5 kms from mainn city. As per Hindu mythology, it is believed that Daksha prajapati organised a yagna at this place inviting all devas, sages except Mahadev to insult him. Mahadev's wife Sati had a confrontation with Daksha and sacrificed her body by jumping into the yagna kund. Mahadev became very angry and tore one of his hair, threw it in the ground from which his ferocious form of Veerbhadra emerged. He destroyed the yagna and cut Daksha's head. Daksha was responsible for the expansion of srishti, so the Brahma & devas requested Mahadev to make him alive. Mahadev brought Daksha into life by adding head of a male goat on his body. The temple is built at the same place where yagna was performed by Daksha. Very important for Shaivaites and lot of people gather on the day of Shivratri.
The entry in the temple is free and open throughout the day. Be careful of the monkeys. There is car parking near the temple and you have to walk just 100 meters for the temple. Can be visited anytime during the year however summer may be uncomfortable if crowded. We did not find any crowd during our visit.

The Daksheswar Mahadev Temple is a Shiva temple named for King Daksha Prajapati, who was the father of Sati, while Sati was the first consort of Shiva. Daksheswar Mahadev Temple is one of the many temples in Haridwar and purely from an aesthetic point of view, it’s not all that interesting.
