Väldigt trevligt! Ett måste om du är i Ella. Lär dig om kryddor och tillaga mat och sedan förstås äta det goda!

We visited late afternoon to take a tour of the spice garden. The guide was the cutest old man who gave us a private tour and told us lots about his garden and the spices. We brought lots to take home with us!

We found Ella Spice Garden on tripadvisor whilst we spent 3 nights in Ella on our honeymoon
This class is fantastic
Theeka the host is lovely and his humour is fab.
The tour of the spice garden is really interesting before you start cooking
The venue is set out ready for the class
You are all given aprons and a cooking instruction book to complete whilst the 5 different dishes are being made
Everyone gets chance to cook and you all become a team
We met others from
New Zealand , Australia , Germany and Denmark
We all sit down and ate what we cooked together and shared travelling stories
Amazing must do activity in Ella!

I booked and confirmed this cooking class with the host 2 months in advance and was very excited to attend. We arrived the evening of the class to find out the host had forgotten our booking and the class was now full so we had to leave. The host was nice and apologised but we were very disappointed and would encourage others to double check their bookings and the host to prioritise advanced bookings.

I’m really sorry for the inconvenience caused. We don’t have an online booking system so we take our customers bookings tentatively on WhatsApp, when they arrive in Ella they should confirm it to us so we can accommodate them for the session on the day , we can only accommodate up to 12 guests in our kitchen and we can’t afford to keep the booking open until the guest randomly shows at our place, we get fully booked someday s and when the guests don’t show up we have to run at a loss , this happens to us frequently so we have to get the booking confirmation several times on WhatsApp for us to confirm it , Im really sorry about the inconvenience caused and hope you understand my situation.

We booked well in advance for Theeka's cookery class as we know he gets booked up quickly. His kitchen is located a short (uphill) walk behind Chill Cafe and starts with a really informative walk around his spice garden to understand the key ingredients used in Sri Lankan cooking. Then back to the kitchen to get our aprons and get starting. He is very good at getting everyone involved in small ways for each of the dishes until the feast is ready for everyone to sit down and try. Honestly the best Sri Lankan food we had on our trip and we have already tried making some of the dishes again when we got home!!

We loved our experience with Theeka and his small team! You get a tour of the spice garden before helping to make 7 vegan dishes that you enjoy as a group at the end. It wasn't as hands on as other cooking classes I've done (a lot of the food is already measured out, chopped etc.), but we liked the relaxed vibe and it was fun and engaging. Importantly, the food was delicious! A great way to spend an evening and meet some other travellers, too.

Perfect sri lankan beginner cooking class, for everyone. We cooked 7 different vegan delicious dishes. Two assistant chefs took on tasks such as chopping vegetables, etc. Even if you couldn't prepare a whole dish yourself but did more auxiliary work, it was very interesting, instructive and also entertaining. The recipes used and many more were then sent to all participants.
We can 100% recommend this cooking course, the chef puts his heart and soul into it.

Really enjoyed our cooking class. The host was super friendly , and showed us around the spice garden before starting cooking. We made some delicious food and he was very knowledgeable. It was a fun evening and it’s a nice way to get talking to other travellers too. Highly recommend

For our roadtrip inland Sri Lanka, I had organized to stay two nights in Ella, precisely to attend the cooking class at Ella Spice garden, the day before taking the train to Nuwara Eliya. We were not disappointed! My husband and two teenage kids also loved the experience.
We spent a wonderful evening with Theeka, who's so kind and friendly. The visit of the spice garden was very interesting, the class easy to follow and fun and the meal so yummy! Everything is extremely clean and beautifully displayed.
We look forward to trying to do again the recipes that Theeka sent to us after the class and with all the ingredients we bought at their boutique!

Ask your hotel, it should be about 12.50 € per person. Prepaiment should be OK as this is a lot of money in Sri Lanka and traveller's often do not show up.

we also just showed up the day before and booked the class. There is a phone number but he won't make reservations without receiving payment so you need to be there in person.

I tried to book via messenger on their FB page but didn't receive a response. We went there, booked and paid face to face with no problem for the next day. I think that's the only way you can do it. Well worth it though (in my opinion)!
