Amazing experience when you are in Balestrand.
If you are a family Yuba bike is a good bike to rent.it can take 1 adult and 3 kids, plus for the second parent you can rent an ebike. They have a good deal on it ! Fun for kids guaranteed !

The fjord ride from Bergen to Balestrand is a must. The scenery around is breathtaking and enjoyable - especially is one stands on the front of the boat! The boat is well stocked with snacks.

This was one of my favorite things to do in Norway, We rented bikes in Balestand and might have even made it to the fourth Fjord. There was no food along the way so pack snacks and water. Totally worth it. We stopped alot so it took all day. Could have stopped more but needed to get the bikes back by 4!

We rented our biked at the TI in Balestrand. It was raining that day so we only made it as far as Dragsvik. But the little loop around the bend at the fjord and the stop at Haukaas Enamel Workshop made it all worth it. OH! And we stopped for a beer in the garden of the Dragsvik Hotel which was lovely!

This is a relatively easy 35 miles ride which is very scenic and with ever-changing views and scenery. It is easy to rent at the moment good bikes at the tourist office with directions and maps. There is very little on the road so you need to carry with you everything you may need.

This is a great way to spend a day in Norway. We pre-arranged bicycle hire through the tourist office before we arrived in Norway and the staff at this office were incredibly helpful and accommodating, even waiting after hours for us to collect our bicycles. The ride itself is truly spectacular. Just picture cycling on the open road, passing by snow capped mountains, fjords, beautiful water ways and quaint little villages.

However, a few things to be mindful of:
1. There are limited (if any) facilities once you start this ride - so ensure you pack everything you need for the day, particularly water, snacks and sunscreen. As there are also no public toilets along the way, you may wish to either leave your dignity at home (and prepare to engage with nature) or be mindful of your fluid intake for the day.
2. You ride on the 'main road'. This can be a little unnerving when vehicles pass you by as the road is fairly narrow and cars often do not make any concessions or slow down. This can however be managed fairly easily as the 'traffic' generally aligns with the ferry timetable (so you have some idea of when to be extra vigilant. The road is otherwise yours for the taking outside of this.
3. There are no formal rest stops or other places to stop along the way - so with one minor exception, it really is a case of choose your own adventure in this regard. However, this did not really present a problem for us.
4. Allow more time than you think you need. We ended up completing about 60kms in total. While this could have been completed in a few short hours, there really is limited point in signing up to this ride if you are not interested in giving yourself time to take in the view, stop and take photos, and explore.
5. Appreciate this experience for what it is and do not expect it to be full of 'frills'. By this, I mean that this ride is simply a good day out, but not something to plan your entire trip around. It is not something that appears to be marketed as a 'must do' or 'bucket list' experience. It is however a great way to appreciate a small piece of Norway's spectacular Fjords up close (or at least closer than any tourist cruise boat or ferry will necessarily take you!).

This is the three fjord tour and it was lovely. Across rolling hills, we had views of snow dusted mountain peaks, glacier -carved valleys, smooth as glass fjords dotted with reflections of red farm houses and waterfalls that we passed as we wound our way around several fjords. It was a 35 mile round trip and quite easy, though I had knee pain, but not enough to notice given the great views topped off by the Nigard glacier off in the distance at the end of our ride near a white duck filled pond.
