We dropped into this conservation area for the first time. The setting is beautiful just outside the Short Hills Provincial park near Fonthill. The small fishing pond is fantastic and I would highly recommend to bring you young children there to fish . Lots of small fish to keep them busy also frogs and turtles. They also have a number of wonderful walking trails thru the Carolinian Forest.

This is the St. Johns Conservation Area. It is in Thorold.
There are lots of bodies of water.
Children here learn about nature.
There is a bridge.
Great for walking or hiking.
There is also a Pond Life.
We always enjoy this place.
There was a Spring-fed pond.
A must see!

Let's start by saying just the drive into this area is fantastic. Wonderfully mature trees on a winding country road that lead to a very cool hiking trail. As a matter of fact several loops are available to hikers. The main trail is not for the faint of heart as the climbs are pretty steep. All is all a wonderful place to hike.

Weekends can get very busy when the weather is nice . Try to come during the week to avoid this . Beautiful spring fed pond and a few relatively easy hiking trails vary in length from about 20 minutes to 45 minutes .Nice place to spend a couple hours.

Various trails of varying lengths- all are well designed and breathtaking. If not in the mood for trail walking, siting by the fishing pond offers a great vista for relaxing.

We have come here in the past to enjoy the landscape and catch tadpoles. Today was an utter disappointment as it is completely moss covered. You cannot see the bottom anywhere. Clearly the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has stopped caring.

I grew up close by and have been coming for years, it is often busy but still always remains peaceful. It has a few great trails, its great to bring a blanket and read by the water, or sit on a bench a people watch.
Recently I came with my niece and nephew who are 5, there are awesome hikes for them and it is such a fun place for them to explore and discover. You can always see some turtles sunning themselves on the rocks, fish swimming about, frog hopping off the shoreline, ducks and geese( be wary of the geese), and squirrel scurrying about.

I basically grew up here. The trout pond is stocked and best for fishing opening day. Accessible. Lots of turtles and birds. Nice trails. A good sized park, not massive. Easy to follow trails -- you can't get lost here. Great to hike with the dog(s) or take a break & just walk around the pond, take a look at the fish, wildlife and beautiful foliage.

As a hiker this is one of my go to places I love. Its an easy hike with three trails that are color codes for the time you would like to put into your hike. They also have a bit of a difference in the hills on the hike. Each time I go I see families with kids looking at the fish in the huge center pound or fishing out of it. There are lots of benches for you to sit on around the pound. The parking lot is large and always has a space for you. The entrance is a bit tricky if your not looking for it you may miss it, so maybe use your GPS for that one.
Over all one of may favorite places in Niagara.
