Visiting this small museum one feels how brave an perseverant the first families must have been, coming to then faraway Montagy.

Everything very well presented and most interesting

I only went there because of the Herb Festival and wasn't too impressed with the history but bought very nice "Vet Plantjies" from a gentleman selling them. They are truly beautiful! Had to pay R20 just to enter - wasn't too impressed but got discount from the gentleman from whom I bought my plants.

This was part of our bicycle ride. We were a group of 8. This is such a cute museum with lovely staff. Now i MUST make mention of the Museum travel guide tthat gave us a talk in the herb shop. I am sorry i didnt ask her name. Her knowledge, and expertise were excellent, what a great asset. She was particularly articulate. It was so lovley.

R10 to access the museum which consisted of one hall. Not much to see if you are looking for historical information about the place. My first impression was that it seemed like a antique warehouse with second hand goods. It was a bit of a let down but hey...having expectations is not good. Go and see it for yourself ...this was my experience and yours may differ.

Not much really .... missing an opportunity to tell about daily life in Montagu . A bit uninspiring in lack of other words.

Ariving late as usual I have to admit that the welcome I received was overwhelming friendly. Although they were closing in a few minutes they stil made time to assist and make us feel welcome. We were not rushed in anyway and I could have a nice chat with the owner about the museum. Thank you for the hospitality

When I arrived I was told that the entrance fee was R10. I only had R200. notes and Andrea said I could enjoy the Museum and maybe come back later to pay. Whilst looking at the lovely display of crockery I suddenly remembered where I had small notes. Much to Andrea's amusement I ran to my car and came back with my entrance fee. Now I was free to take as many photos as I wanted. What I liked most was that the original pulpit was still intact.
There is a display of bridal dresses and family bibles but I liked most was the white and silver tea service ( I told Andrea as I left that was all I wanted - much to her dismay).
There were interesting old wheelchairs and musical instruments.
Packets of dried herbs (from the Joubert House garden) for any ailments are for sale as well as jars of Honey and Rooibos teas.
Do pay them a visit - they need your support

A museum in a church - features wedding gowns of old, family bibles of the past and a fine old pulpit. I made two visits, the first just to see the place and the second a few days later to hear an expert on the forts of the boer war talk about the war in general and then in more detail about the numerous forts that had been built to defend the town from the boer commandos - never realized there were so many.
