So much history and great to see Richard Watts Charities making such a difference to this day in Medway. Lovely old building, pretty courtyard garden and friendly, knowledgeable custodian! I highly recommend a visit!

The custodians at 6 PTH have surely captured the mood of the nation with its simple, but effective tribute, marking the passing of our beloved Queen Elizabeth II.
"We shall not look upon her like again!"
As the marmalade-loving character that is Paddington Bear said:
"Thank you Ma’am, for everything!"
There will be jam pennies and marmalade sandwiches for tea in her honour.
May she rest in peace.
God save the King!
Hip hip hurrah!

I came here with my grandparents and brother to have a little explore. We found it very interesting, particularly being able to see the rooms, dining room and the lovely garden at the back. Some interesting information about Dickens too. The lady gave us a short talk which we also learned a thing or two from.

Having never visited Rochester, my husband and I were delighted to find it was an absolute gem. We spent two days exploring the Castle and Cathedral, the Guildhall Museum and The Restoration House which Charles Dickens used as his inspiration for Satis House, the home of Miss Haversham in Great Expectations. However my lasting memory of Rochester will be our impromptu visit to the Tudor 6 Poor Travellers’ House on the beautiful High Street. It is free and the story behind it is fantastic for not only did Richard Watt provide free food, drink and accommodation to 6 different Tudor travellers for one night but sent them away the next morning with 4d in their pockets. His charitable works are still being felt to this day. Liz one of the curators gave us such a wonderful insight into the ongoing work of this amazing man. A beautiful little museum and so worth the donation.

We came upon the house by accident on a visit to Rochester. What a lovely little find! Everything is 'as was' and you can tell that Liz (?), the lovely custodian of the property, is sincerely passionate about the history and continuing legacy of Richard Watts.
The rooms, artefacts and photographs tell a sad story of what 'poor' is really like.
A pretty courtyard garden is at the back where you can have some unhurried quiet relaxation.
All free too, but donation boxes are dotted around so it was a pleasure to do our bit.

This house was truly interesting. The guide told us about the founding patron and some of the buildings history but the info boards tell a much deeper story. Our friends live just outside Rochester and despite walking past the building many times over many years had never previously been inside. As visitors to the area we followed them in and for the next 45 minutes were amazed at the generosity of the patron and how many years the facity was operational. A gem with wonderful hosts.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Six Poor Travellers House. The lady who greeted us was fabulous and so enthusiastic. It was fascinating to listen to her and learn of the legacy of Richard Watts which is still ongoing today. The museum is very well presented and there is a beautiful courtyard garden where you can find the original lamp that was once outside the front of the building. The museum is situated in the main street tucked amongst the shops, is free to enter and we felt well worth a donation.

Such an interesting place to learn about local history and realise what a wonderful person Richard Watts must have been to leave such a great legacy.
The couple that look after the house were lovely too and gave us lots of information about the house and the area. You could tell they were really committed in keeping the house and garden in great shape.
