This is a Historical fort , where Shivaji Maharaj killed the tryant Afzal Khan. His grave is near the foot of this fort.
You need to walk to this fort from its base. There are almost 200-300 stairs. Old people may find it uncomfortable. You must hire a guide to know about the historical significecne of this fort. Official rate is 600 Rs. But we hired a local guide for Rs 300 + 40 tip.
You can see nice panoramic views of surrounding mountains from the top. A must visit place.

We visited the Pratapgarh fort from Mahableshwar. It is about 50 minutes drive from Mahableshwar. We hired a guide who gave us the history of the fort, it is highly recommended and very reasonably priced. The entry to the fort is free. The history of Chatrapati Shivaji and the story of Afzal Khan and how Shivaji claimed victory over the Moghuls in a very strategic way can be clearly understood with the help of a guide. The view of the Fort from the mountains is excellent. There is a total of 450 steps to get to the top of the fort.
One of the best monuments to sightsee with a lot of history tied to it. It is a must visit if you visit Pune or the outskirts.

8. Get local fruits and berries.. support local community.
9. Strong stone walls.. after so many years still in good condition.
10. Can spot monkeys 🐒 and squirrel 🐿️.

A must place to visit with friends, family. Advisable to engage a local guide (costs INR 600) but they explain in detail about the fort and it's worth every time and money to know about our rich history. Try out locally made food in the fort by local villagers. Support Vocal for Local !!! Proud of our Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and our brave men !!

Build by the great Maratha King Shivaji, this fort is located far away from Mahabaleshwar. Driving through the forest was an awesome experience. The spiral roads made by cutting through the mountains, the forests of Western Ghats and the cool breeze offered memorable experiences. The fort as such was not intact. Portions of it were worn out. We climbed the stairs to reach the top of the fort. The views of the route through which we reached the fort from the fort top looked really awesome.

Even if you are not a history enthusiast, make sure you hire a guide while visiting this fort. Listening entire enthralling story exactly where it all happened, will give you goosebumps for sure. One of the most amazing stories of Indian history which is full of thrills, drama, and courage. I can't describe the experience in words when I visited the fort for the first time and heard this story. Reading it in books and hearing it in the fort has a huge difference because you can visualize it in the fort.

How tough it is to climb for a senior person of age 75 yrs??.

My father is 73 years old and has bit of asthma. But he came with us all the way to the top. He did have to stop at intervals and take deep breaths.
So, as such age itself is not so much the concern, but definitely you need to look at the person's health and ability and interest too. It is steps at many places. But there are tea stalls, and such too.

Hi Saptarshi,
Exactly what do u wish to know???
Pratapgad is located on Mahabaleshwar - Poladpur Road which connects to Mumbai - Goa Highway...
Travellers usually stay in Mahabaleshwar or Panchgani and visit Pratapgadh in a day time, which require overall 3 to 4 hours including travel time. Mahabaleshwar is the nearest Market place / town from Pratapgadh...
