This is a very high density provincial park. Every campsite in the Riverside 4 area is very close to the ones behind and beside.
We were surprised that this early in the season we would be disturbed by loud music coming from a nearby campsite. We were also surprised that with this many campers out, the store was closed. The Friends of the Pinery giftstore in the Visitors Centre was open, thankfully.
It is a confusing park and the park map doesn't make it easy to get around. However the camp wood was dry and helped make a great campfire

Getting to the park was easy with any GPS system. Short line up when we got there at 11am on a Saturday. Once you get in there’s an 8 km drive to the beach area. First beaches you come to are beaches 1 and 2. These are the only 2 that are pet friendly so we stayed on beach 2. Both were infested with flies. Ruined our time actually since you couldn’t sit for a few seconds without one of them biting you. We found a couple picnic tables by the car and had a bbq. Flies were still very annoying. Not sure if it’s the time of year or what but they were quite bothersome. Beach is clean and really nice. Water was very cold but it was a really hot day anyway. Wouldn’t go back.

Great place to be away from the main beach and have a quieter vacation and enjoy. Great view of the sunset from here and enjoyable

Large beach with 9 parking spots goes on for miles and miles. Water clear like the Caribbean. The park has also bike trails and walking trails.

I have been to 22 Ontario Provincial Parks as of right now. The Pinery is my favourite.
My solo adventures took me to Pinery Provincial Park last year. I fell in love that day. I have been a few times since then, because I was mesmerized by it.
I was blown away by the lush forests that almost appear untouched, wetlands teeming with diverse wildlife, fragile sand dunes, and an absolutely stunning view of Lake Huron. I had never been to Lake Huron before, and had absolutely no idea that I was in for a real treat: stunning, Caribbean-like turquoise water and beautiful sandy beaches.
The sunsets at Pinery are not something you want to miss, seeing as National Geographic named Pinery one of the top 10 places in the world to view them. On a subsequent trip to Pinery, I ventured there in the evening to see what all the fuss was about. The verdict: National Geographic was right.
I have explored most the Pinery’s many trails, and have yet to be disappointed as they have all been beautiful. There are, however, some trails that do stand out in my mind as having spectacular views that should not be missed:
Carolinian 1.7 KM trail is one of my favourite trails due to the views of the forest from boardwalks elevated under the canopy. There are several sets of stairs on the trail, making it inaccessible to those with mobility devices.
Riverside 1 KM trail is a short, accessible trail that runs along the Old Ausable Channel. The views of the wetlands are phenomenal.
Wilderness 2.6 KM trail is exactly that: an escape into the wilderness. The trail is not accessible for those with mobility devices. There is also a point along this trail that brings you to take a peek at beautiful Lake Huron.
There are 9 day use access points to the beach. I have visited all of them, and they all offer beautiful views. Due to the one-way road between the park entrance and beach access 8, some beach accesses become busier than others. The beach accesses on the outer limits of the day use area are generally the busiest as they are the first to appear from both the park entry or campground respectively.
One thing I have noticed at this park is that people often drive way above the 40 KM speed limit. If you are on foot or on bike near the road, please pay extra attention.
It is probable that I will be returning to Pinery Provincial Park numerous times in the future. Until then, I have photographs to remember its beauty. I hope you enjoy!

Spent the day at Pinery Provincial Park first time ever, the entrance to the beach was a good 8km with a nice view of all their trails and lake. Much respect to the crew who keep the place clean! The water was a little chili but on a hot day it's bliss, A reservation was advised by the staff for the next visit. Just a beautiful little spot.

Great provincial park, really nice waters and hiking trails. I would go here again. There is also a point where you can launch your own canoe or kayak. There weren't any firepits that I could see though. i only stayed in the day use area, so i dont know if the overnight people get a firepit.

... notwithstanding Wing Commander is spoiled by nice walks right out the home back door.
Our perspective;
Shady walk with a wonderful tree mix that trails off, off
to the Huron shoreline for panoramic vista; A Kodak moment.
So it’s popular.
Q-Trip: Mind the dog dirt.
Seems a regular group of dog owners hop from
the parking lot in order to give their dogs a relief
spot ... right ON THE PATH.
The dog dirt disappears on the one-way shore line pass.
Make your own conclusions ...
Q-Trip: We counted four one-way direction signs on
our return loop after the first wrong way walkers.
came towards us. Two more wrong way ‘groups’
came after.
A beautiful generational play ground that needs some adult supervision.

What time would be suggested to go when they open at 8am on the weekend? I’ve heard there are long line ups to get in.

If you check the Ontario Parks website and choose Pinery from the list of parks, there is an icon for alerts such as fire bans

I’ve been tracking the comments about cockroaches the past few years. Has anyone had any experiences with cockroaches in 2020 or 2021?
Thanks in advance.

I am looking to book for the 2021, but I have seen issues with roaches in the past (particularly 2017/2018). Did anyone have these issues in the 2020 season?

I visited in 2020, but was there for a day visit.
Did not really stay there, but whenever used their facilities, they looked clean and well maintained.
Especially for covid times, the facilities looked to have been taken care of. Hopefully, that helps.

Odd question maybe, but are there washrooms/ comfort stations which are just single toilets and sink in the room (almost like a converted outhouse), rather than just large washrooms with rows of stalls?
Chaitanya
Cambridge, Canada923 bidrag
Yes. You will find washroom stalls where there is only one person entry too.
First question, is it safe for a young family (specifically the children of the young family) to bicycle around the campgrounds? We're thinking about staying in an RV at one of the Riverside campsites this summer, but are worried about getting our brood over to the beaches (if we'd be cycling alongside roads that are traveled by cars going 50km/h or more.

Having a bike to get around the Pinery is a good idea but keep an eye on small kids. The park is far bigger than you might think.
Can anyone comment what the tick situation is currently like in the park?

Hi, I'm just looking for feedback on Campsite 65 in Dunes area 1. How has anyone likes it and what you thought about the size. We have 6 people, 1 dog, bikes, 2 tents....
Thanks!

Hi, is Burley campground open? The automated message on the Pinery phone says it's closed, but we didn't receive any cancellation and have a reservation to arrive this week.
