This is an old palace of king of Burma with half of the palace closed due to poor conditions. The balance half open has a few artefacts and statues of goddesses and saints not connected in any way with this palace. It is advisable to take snaps from outside the palace and avoid entering the same.

I have not been yet, but I thought I might point out since I don't see here, the real significance of the Palace is that it was built for King Thibaw, the last King of Burma. The English colonists exiled him to this place and did not allow him to leave the area, they feared if he returned to Burma he good make trouble of their plans with Burma. The Britts treated the rest of the world quite terribly, including India.

This place needs better maintenance.
If you are in the city of Ratnagiri, just drop in for sometime. A very good piece of architecture.
Exteriors are good and picturesque but not many things to see, inside the Palace.

This place is at a distance of 2 km from Ratnagiri Bus Stand, Thibaw Palace is a historical building, which is impressive from outside. This is one of the major tourist attractions of Ratnagiri. Thiba Palace is an architectural grandeur that was created for King Thibaw of Myanmar (Burma) who was in exile here. It is said that the Palace was built by the British in 1910 to keep the king of Burma under house arrest. The palace came into use from 1910 up to the king's death on 16th December 1916. The palace is a beautifully constructed three storied structure with sloping roofs. Semi-circular wooden windows with beautiful carvings are the main attraction of this structure. Presently the palace is maintained by ASI and it is currently under renovation. There is also a museum in the palace which displays the various artifacts used by the king during his exile. This Palace is just average and has nothing much to see. Except the palace structure is intact and in good condition. Wooden staircase and windows are also in good condition. So this place can be visited if one is having adequate time.

If you happen to visit Ratnagiri and have the time, then you can visit this site. The structure looks impressive from the outside. Once inside it is average. Many places are blocked from entry. The museum has a small collection of artifacts, but many of these are not connected with the King of Burma who stayed in exile here.

An impressive structure to lok at. Maintained in good condition.
However inside, it is rather bare without anything related to the Burmese king held captive here. There's just one hall with some photos. But u cant get near to see them, for it is cordoned off!! While downstairs there are a couple of rooms filled with sculpture of 13th century. Here you can get close to them to observe the pits and scars on the faces!!! What is the connection between these busts and the king is not clear. Save for the poster chronicling how the king ended up here and the political chicanary of the Brits, the palace is a big disappointment if you're expecting to see artifacts used by the royalty. May be they have them in those rooms locked up, but not on display.

This place is enshrined in history and i rather liked the palace & grounds than the artrfacts kept in a few rooms. The main exhibits are in the 1st floor, and the stairs are quite steep. There are historical commentary in the main rooms which help visitors understand the significance of the palace. The death place of King Thibaw is not here though, but a few kms away at Shivajinagar.

This palace cum museum is very under maintained... neglected by govt... You will find people sleeping in main corridor of the museums... Authorities are not bothered to keep a check on people..
This Palace as such has nothing much to see...you can finish the tour in hardly half n hour... Except the palace structure is intact and in good condition...wooden staircase and windows are also in good condition... So this place can be last in priority visit list ...
