Lokmanya Tilak Birthplace.
TA calls it as Tilak Ali Museum. Maharashtra Tourism calls it Lokmanya Tilak birth Place. I am posting it under that name.
We parked right in front of a house where a notice board erected by Maharashtra Tourism proclaimed it as “Lokmanya Tilak birthplace”.
If you want to be fussy and be technically correct about it, this memorial should be called "the house where Lokmany tilak was born".
A notice board in Marathi informed that the memorial will be open 10 in the morning till 5:30. and will remain closed on Mondays. This would mean that the house where Lokmanya Tilak was born was given a statue of “memorial”.
It was a simple two-storied house with a roof of GI sheets overlaid by fire-baked clay tiles.
As you enter the gate, there is a sheltered statue of Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
Took some photos of the house and the statue.
As we walked in there was a couple of working staff, saw a few blown-up photos of old issues of Loksatta and group photos of historical value where Lokmanya Tilak was present.
As I had walked in immediately after photographing the statue and the house, my mobile phone with the camera function selected was still in my hand. Seeing this one of the staff members told me to put away the mobile phone as photography was prohibited inside the memorial.
I asked him the reason why photography was prohibited. He just said it is the rule. In my opinion, this rule barring photography in temples and memorials, etc is a silly, irrational, and illogical rule. When a tourist/visitor is visiting a temple or a memorial he would like to carry back the memories of his visit in the form of photos. As long as the photos do not show the place in bad or poor light there is no harm in allowing the photography. The staff member and I had a bit of an argument. I lost my temper and walked out of the memorial.

This place is ancestral home of freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak , which has now been converted into a small museum. Here Lokmanya Tilak lived from birth till the age of 10. This museum is a popular tourist attraction. In front of the house, there is a statue of Lokmanya Tilak. It houses artifacts and memorable related to the life of Lokmanya Tilak. There are paintings and belongings of the legendary man and the visit makes for a good learning experience. Photography is not allowed inside the house. Outside the house, photography is allowed. This museum is an ideal place for students as well as history lovers. It is a must visit and should not be missed while in Ratnagiri.

Had visited this museum in Ratnagiri a long back ago. This museum is located in Tilak Ali Nagar and is a popular tourist attraction.
This museum is the place where Lokmanya Tilak lived from birth till the age of 10. As it is converted into a museum, it houses artifacts and memorabilia related to the life of Lokmanya Tilak. Photography is not allowed inside the house. Outside the house, photography is allowed. Behind the house, there is nothing much to see. In front of the house, there is a statue of Lokmanya Tilak. There is no entry fee, but had to register as part of a formality. Parking is a bit of a problem outside as the road is narrow and there is no ample parking space.

I went to Tilak Ali Museum. Maintained by the State Archaeological Department, the Museum is the old ancestral home of the illustrious Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. It has lots of pictures of the freedom fighter. It is great place to go.

This is the actual house of Shri Balgangadhar Tilak.
The house is well maintained and has no entry fee. You just have to put an entry in a register. It houses a few belongings of Shri Tilak ji and one can visit the whole house (i.e ground floor only).
A nice and quite visit. Will not take more than 30-40 minutes.
One is not allowed to click snaps inside the house.

This place is the home of Balgangadhar Tilak and worth going if you are visiting Ratnagiri. It is a old house, with several photographs of Bal Gangadhar Tilak and his family. Worth visiting with children to remember one of the great freedom fighters.

A very well maintained museum that was once home of great freedom fighter of India. Once anyone enters & reads all information displayed, bound to get bit emotional. The sacrifice of these patriots & the struggle though known to all, reading the information in the home of Lokmanya Tilak gives a different feeling.
The rear portion of the premises has quarters of caretaker Sawant who has planted trees within the premises few years ago. No doubt it adds to the beauty of this important structure.
