Very well maintained WWII Memorial to honor Warriors that fought for the freedom of the world. God Bless these Valiant Men who have all they had to offer. The Men of the Special Forces salute each and every one of you.

One of the few British WW2 Cemeteries in Germany. Between Munich and Austrian border.Beautifully looked after.Graves are of British soldiers and airmen including SAS shot down or killed during the conflict. Worth a visit. Easy to park outside.

It was quite moving to go there. We, I think, are only the second family members who have been able to make the trip.
Paul, the caretaker at the cemetery was very informative and interesting.
We reached Bad Tolz from Munich by train. No taxis at the station. So we opened Google maps and there were phone numbers for local taxis. Phoned a couple and got one who spoke excellent English. He came to station, took us t Durnbach and, as agreed came back after an hour to take us back to Bad Tulz

We always make a point of visiting CWGC cemeteries when on our travels across the Globe. Durnbach War Cemetery is maintained to a very high standard and well worth a visit. The number of full or partial bomber crews buried together really brings home the fact that around 55,000 Commonwealth bomber crews died. There are also the largest number of SAS graves I have ever seen in one cemetery.

This Commonwealth War Commission cemetery mainly contains the graves of Allied air crew including 484 RCAF members. Without a car, it's challenging to access but the best way is take the BOB train from Munich to Tegersee, which is a very scenic trip, and then take a taxi from Tegersee Bahnhof. It cost me about 50 euros for the trip there and back including 30 minutes at the cemet3ry.

We were lucky enough to go for the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice service. Stunning day and lots of people from many countries. The Germans were there in numbers too. It was a lovely service of remembrance and reconciliation. This is a place to visit any though.

Though it’s listed as the Durnbach War Cemetery, it is several kilometres north in a location identified as Moos on a map we got from the Information Centre in Gmund am Tegernsee.
The cemetery is lovingly and beautifully maintained. The visitors’ book shows that many who record their thoughts are German and it is sombre and moving reminder of the futility of war and the incalculable courage of the men buried here.
There are nearly 3,000 graves and cremation plaques here and the vast majority are airmen shot down over Bavaria, Wurtemberg, Austria, Hessen and Thuringia, brought from their scattered graves at the end of World War 2. The rest are men who were killed while escaping from prisoner of war camps in the same areas, or who died towards the end of the War on forced marches from the prisoner of war camps.

I am planning to visit Durnbach War Cemetery later this year to pay my respects to one of my dad’s cousin’s crew. He was killed in 1944 and I don’t believe he has ever had a family visit. I’m not a blood relative but he was one of cousin Gordon’s boys and that’s family enough for me.
I will be travelling by train and on a limited budget.
I’ve looked at buses but it seems they are few and far between. I will be travelling from Nuremberg so already 5+ hour return trip. A taxi plus waiting time looks like it will be quite expensive.
I’m happy to walk from Moosrain but the road looks very busy and I’ve seen various comments about it not being safe to walk.
I’d be very grateful for any suggestion on how I can get to and from the cemetery as not visiting is not an option.
Thank you.

My uncle John Francis Ryan was one of the fallen Aussie' s that you mentioned in your review of the cemetery, he was only 21 when his plane was shot down and by what my mother said about her lovely brother he had such a affliction sense of humour, that everyone immediately liked him very much, so as you can gathered he was well loved by everyone that knew OR met him.
So it is my WISH to someday visit the cemetery so l can fulfill my promise that l made to my mother, to lay a red rose on John's grave

If you visit I suggest that you stay in Munich. A fabulous city. As someone else has suggested, go to Bad Tolz by train from Munich. However, make sure that you’re on the correct halve of the train - it decouples to go to two destinations.
As a previous respondent has suggested, get a taxi from Bad T to Durnbach. We used google maps to get phone numbers. Found a driver who spoke English and agreed with him that he would take us to the cemetery and then return for us after two hours. He did,
The caretaker at Durnbach speaks English and is a font of knowledge
Hope the above is of use.

what is the easiest way to get to Durnbach War Cemetery from Munich?
Skrevet 25. april 2017
The easiest way is with BOB-Regianalbahn into direction Gmund main station, Afterwards its the easiest to get a Taxi, because theres no direct link to the cemetery with public transport. Alternatively you go out of the BOB at the Moosrain-stop and the rest is by a little walk of 20 minutes.
