Such an amazing trail! I began hiking with friends but as it became steep I continued alone. There were beautiful views of the fjord and fewer people along this route than others. The livestock were comfortable with us passing (for the most part) and there were ropes along the way where needed.

Beautiful experience. We started the hike at westerås gård! The view from vesterås mountain was amazing. It was a relatively easy hike (compared to storsæterfossen).o

Here you are about 300 meters straight above the cruise ship terminal. So if you like to look at cruise ships, this is the place to be! But, with a big cruise ship in the water, you will not be alone..

We went for a hike to vesterasfjellet. The beginning is quite steep, but later on it becomes more easy. At first we walked on a path with large stones under the trees but later the scenery changed to grasslands. We encountered sheep and goats before we reached the viewpoint. Unfortunately it was a very wet and cloudy day so we had absolutely no view at the viewpoint, but at other points the scenery was amazing. Walking down in the rain is quite slippery so make sure to bring good shoes (and rain clothing). Total length to from and back to the fjordcenter was 8km or 2 hours. Totally worth it!

Wednesday 5th September we were in Geiranger, it was a beautiful sunny day, we had just visited the Fjord Centre (reviewed separately), we thought it would be a good idea to go for a walk and enjoy the wonderful scenery and the fresh air.
There was a narrow pathway with a sign post across the road from the Fjord Centre, there were a number of walks to choose from with various lengths and degrees of difficulty.
We decided to take a less strenuous route leading to Vesteråsfjellet, a viewing point overlooking Geiranger. It was about 5 kilometres away.
At first it was a gentle path it soon became a bit more arduous and it became a bit of a steep trek up a woodland track. We eventually reached near Vesterås gard where we joined the gentle pathway that led to the viewing point.
Vesterås gard, visitors can drive up there, where there is is a resturant and car park, walkers can take the gentle path from there to the viewing point at Vesteråsfjellet
Along the way we encountered goats, either alpacas or lamas (not sure which). We saw weirdest shaped fungi.
The trek up to Vesteråsfjellet took about 90 minutes but it was worth it the views of the Fjord and Geiranger, it was a real adventure.
We took the easier route back to Geiranger, by the roadway, it was must quicker than the way up. On our way down we visited the Geiranger War Memorial (reviewed separately) and the wonderful Fosservandring (waterfall)
Would not recommend this trek in wet weather unless wearing the appropriate clothing and footwear.
