Great morning with Keith. I've been out with him a few times before and he demonstrates the process well and helps when needed. Found a nice cuttable zircon and a couple of small sapphires.

Don't waste your hard earned $$$!
You get taken to a public fossicking area. You aren't allowed to dig virgin ground, Keith only keeps that for himself and his mates. You get to dig well above the good stuff and the creek bed. But don't worry he'll dig the good stuff while there for the few hours ,whilst your digging the no productive ground his already been over and you've paid him to take you out.
Not enough equipment, not enough sieves, the Willoughbys are 3/4 full of yesterday's dirt, the water is so dirty it barely cleans any dirt off the material your trying to clean. I tried to sieve the leave and grass off the top of the water in the tub and the sieve would only go 1/4 the way in the tub, stuck my hand in and there was only 10cm of water the rest is silt and dirt.
As others have said the equipment is worn out, one lady cut herself on the bottom of a sieve as the wire has been broken away from the base
.
There was very little input from Keith, a quick demo of how to dig,use the Trammell, Willoughbys and a quick sort.
Then we were placed in the already dug over spots.
That's it.
No morning tea was offered or told it was available. Discovered at the end that it was just put on a table in the corner only because one of their mates turned up and they offered him a coffee.
They start packing up all the gear at 1pm and I was told I better hurry up if I wanted to do another bucket.
Not asked if we where done or would we like to keep going ect, when I booked it over the phone I asked how long the day is and Keith said that most people have had enough by 1-1.30 but he didn't say they have had enough and take the equipment off you .......
when it's advertised as a day fossicking and you don't meet till 8.30, then wait till 8.45 for late comers, 20min drive out to the site, another 30min for them to set up the gear, placing the Trammells and Willoughbys,shovels ,picks ect that's not a lot of time to fossick especially when there's not enough sieves and Willoughbys and sorting tables, you have to do a lot of waiting for gear to be available, 10-15min isn't uncommon to wait for a sieve.
Some families in our group that day, took over 2 Willoughbys, a Trammell and a sorting table and had a production line running,Keith did nothing about help sharing the equipment.
Massive disappointment to the members of my family and a waste of a day and money,$60 per person cash only,there were at least 25 people in our group that day.
That's a lot of tax free cash to take people to a public fossicking area to use limited worn out equipment to find 1 tiny tiny sapphires in 8 buckets ( I found 5 tiny sapphires in one sieve of virgin ground I then got told off for digging in there, Even though it's a public fossicking area, go figure......to my point he keeps the good ground for himself)
If you want a fun experience and a conversation and some willingness to share knowledge and good equipment with clean water ,the miners cottage at rubyvale run by Sam and her team well worth it. My mum bought one bucket of premium wash and found 15 big sapphires the biggest saphire of the week 33.65ct.

We had a great morning with Keith digging for gems.
Unfortunately we didn't find anything groundbreaking but it was a fun experience.
Definitely recommend bringing water, hats and plenty of sunscreen as it was really hot and windy.
We went in a normal sedan but the road was pretty rough and we couldn't go all the way down to the dig site.

We go out with Keith for a decade now on his tag-a-long tours (fossicking) and like every year before it was amazing. Keith will take you to virgin ground and for the past 10 years we found sapphires and zircons. If you find a cutter Dave will cut it for you, the cut quality if excellent. Thanks again for a fantastic experience.

What a great day! Keith took the time to show us what to do and what to look out for. Whilst no guarantees of finding a gem, we were lucky and found some colour. Keith made sure us novices didn't throw out our finds. Had all the tools and would highly recommend. If you expect to do some hard digging, you will not be disappointed. Thanks Keith. See you next time.

The job is of outstanding quality, and the costs are reasonable. If we were ever in Jaipur again, we will bring our friends here and buy more jewelery.

This review is in regards to the fascination gem fossicking tag along.
Keith might be a character but he’s not my kind of guy. Disorganised - there weren’t enough tools to go around and the last of the picks we got was so worn out the point was worn off. Another I tried had the pick head come down the handle at me.
Keith is a man of few words. He just jumped in this car and took of (after taking the money with out a thank you ) not to some special location or virgin ground we went straight to the public site that has been dug for over 100 years and anyone can dig there with a $25 fossicking licence. When we arrived he showed us the rudiments of digging a hole but he didn’t say anything about what to look for in a good dig site he just said, “anywhere here, it’s all the same”. No history no snippets of local info. At 1pm it was time to go. So much for a day tour. More like a morning tour. How did he persuade everyone it was time to go. He left with the tools, sieves and the water buckets were so dirty it was impossible to do the wash. He just took off when he was ready no goodbyes. If you want a really great experience go to heritage cottage and get some decent information then you will be confident to go out on your own.

Get someone with a personality and people skills to run it or get the tour guide trained. He's hopeless. Rude from the outset. No skills in fossicking imparted. Tour guide belittles people. We went for lunch and came back and everything was gone, all tools and the guide. Worst tourism experience I have had anywhere in the world. Should be $10 per couple not $100. Total waste of time and money.

A great morning 24/3/2021 with Keith on a Tag-a-long Tour to one of the local public fossicking areas. He was very informative and showed us the fossicking process from where to dig, how to dig, separating the wash from the dirt and then using the willoughby to eventually looking for the gemstones. We even came away with a couple of sapphires and zircons. A terrific, if warm, morning.

Unfortunately we must have got Keith on an ‘off’ day. Was quite off-putting and was not keen to explain much. Save your $90 and buy couple bags of washed stones. Waste of time and money!

I am taking my own found gemstones to rubyvale end sept.and want to know who would be best to go too
to have these set. Who in the area, already have settings for rings etc. Already made?
Would love to hear from anyone with ideas.

We noticed ring settings available at the Sapphire Mine Shop and also at Fascination, where the guy has his workshop just behind the counter. Not such a large selection but I would think least expensive. We were even thinking of mailing some of our stones to him for setting. Pretty sure he has a website, otherwise, send him an email with dimensions etc for a quote before you arrive ?
