This was my first ski holiday for 20 years and my teenage sons first. He’d had a few lessons at the i door slope at Hemel and picked it up really quickly. Ended up choosing Passo due to its high altitude as we were going in April. Well I couldn’t have chosen a better resort! The day before we arrived it started snowing and didn’t stop for 2 days with a metre falling. We then had gorgeous sunshine so were blessed with pow and bluebird days. The views are breathtaking. There was plenty to keep us busy for the first few days and my son loved going off piste between the runs and pretty much overtook me straight away in ability (probably because he’s young and fearless!) we then tried some reds and got on great with those. The glacier was stunning and well worth going to but we somehow managed to do the black run from the mid-station without realising. But we survived it and I didn’t fall and only a couple of falls from my son! On our last day we headed to Ponte de Legno where my son skied but I had a break he said it was great apart from the lifts were a lot older and he found the longest button lift in the world!
The whole week there weren’t any quested for any of the lifts which was a huge bonus…apart from night skiing which is on once a week and what a crazy night that was but worth doing for the experience.
Can’t comment about the apres ski as I was with my son who is too young but there was a couple of lovely bars at the bottom of the lifts. For us it was the perfect week skiing in the perfect resort with perfect conditions

We really enjoyed our stay here. I am writing this as we are enjoying our last apres ski drinks after a week's skiing. Despite there being almost no snowfall this year, the people responsible for the pistes maintain them very well with artificial snow etc. Really friendly resort for families with children and the ski school went down a treat with ours.

The local slopes are very limited, mostly just glorified beginner runs, altho' there are much more challenging ones down at Ponte di Legno and up the Pisgana glacier area. Similarly decent lunching spots are few in Passo, but Ponte has a lot of good options both on & off slope. A walk into the old centre of Ponte is recommended. For mileage hungry intermediates, Madonna di Campiglio is easily accessible via a free ski bus (to Marilleva, whose lifts link into Madonna system). Some blue runs there are busy, but empty slopes & better views can be found beyond especially in the Pinzolo area.
Off piste is potentially a big draw for Passo, off the sides of the Pisgana glacier area, but on two visits I rarely found decent snow. Ski touring upto the Adamello glacier & back down to Ponte is interesting, with great views, but only for fit & strong skiers.
Passo is a bit drab as a resort, set on a main road, with lots of dull, modern buildings, but it is fairly lively esp at weekends.

A great selection of runs from the far right of the Tonale piste map across to Temu, plus the glacier. Something for everyone, friendly ski instruction for our children and lots of lovely places to grab a mountain lunch.

Passo Tonale far exceeded my expectations, had a wonderful week early season and quiet, PERFECT, just how I like to ski.
Covid Precautions second to none and far better than those in UK, felt totally safe and it didn't detract from my holiday one bit, congratulations Italy.
Conditions were perfect with relatively small amounts of snow, pretty much everything open and perfect groomed slopes every day....steep red at the top of the Glacier was steep but immaculately groomed and great to just rip into.
Lessons from Evolution were perfect, my offpiste session on my birthday was PERFECT, just myself and guide Gianni on the route from top to bottom, peaceful, beautiful Valley, what a way to end the week. Already have flight booked for Dec 22

Advice please, want to stay local in Passo but also want to go up to glacier, do we need local lift passes or area ones if going up the glacier side opposite beginner slopes?

The red slope at the top of the glacier is very steep, I would suggest it is verging on a black rather than a red slope however, it is work going up to the Glacier to look at the fabulous panoramic views, you can always take the lift back down the mountain. The black run I would not consider to be particularly difficult though.
The best bet is to check the lift pass coverage on the Pasdo Tonale Website to ensure the glacier is covered, I am fairly sure it is but it will be worth checking.

Grazie mille

Hi can anyone recommend ski school for kids in Passo Tonale? Possibly one that provides lunch? Or lessons longer than 2hrs?
Thanks

We did adult ski school which was 2 hours 9 til 11. I think the kids ski school was same time but our hotel had child care after which included lunch.

We didn’t take any grown up lessons. But our daughter attended lessons at ski school passo Tonale. They were very helpful and flexible. Especially Simone is a very friendly guy.
It’s a great area for beginners. So you’ll learn quickly I imagine. Enjoy!

Hi Cervinia or Zermatt is a good choice plus you can use 1 ski pass for both resorts, No brainer lol..!! also it is cheaper to stay in Cervinia.
Hope this helps you with your choice.
Have fun..!!

Hi what was the name of the other ski area that you could extend your lift pass and it is easy to get to?
Willemijn v

I’m sorry for my late reaction. I didn’t know people could ask questions. That area is called Ponte do Legio. It is really easy to get there, just take the two cable/cabins lifts from the passo Tonale area (I think it was lift 15). The good thing is, when you plan your rides you don’t have to walk. You just take the right lift and end up at the cabines. Enjoy!

Those of you who travelled independently where did you buy your lift pass and how much did it cost?

There are several ticket offices. You can find their location on the passo ski site. I bought mine in an office next to Grand hotel paradiso. Very convenient spot to park, buy a pass, rent an equipment and ascend the slopes.
You can buy also via internet site but only a dayly passes. In a ticket office you can get also a point tickets. Every slope has it's price in points so if you buy this, you just pay for what you used. Prices begin from 2-3 points for easy slopes. Ticket are with 80 points and more as far as I remember. Several riders can use the same ticket. Much cheaper if you are a beginner.
