Went on a rainy day in November, but kitted up with waterproofs.
Best part of the day was guided tour with Alan. Initially a small group of 5 people, but ended up being just my wife and I walking around chatting with Alan.
He was so friendly, informative, passionate, and generally a really nice person.
We ate in the restaurant, which served cold and hot food. (Lovely Pieminister pies with mash and gravy really went down a treat)
All the staff we met were friendly and helpful, and the feed at 3pm is not to be missed.

We had a monthly family membership which we occasionally used.
We went for a couple of hours with friends….We enjoyed it but it was not worth £30 per couple for those who weren’t members. The price of food and drink is also too high and the toilets were disgusting.
Given the high prices, we cannot have a quick visit with friends who aren’t members and ask them to pay £15 each; it is too much. I have cancelled our membership for this reason.

This was a brilliant place to visit, lots to see if you love birds. I am not a twitcher but love to see different birds. A lovely walk from Burscough bridge station. Nice eating place, just a super place to visit. I visited last year and didn't expect to see so many different birds on my second visit. I hope to keep coming while I'm able.

We have an annual membership and come here regularly as it’s a great place to look round, really accessible using a wheelchair (lots of flat paths) and my little girl adores flamingos - so it has everything we need.
There is even a changing room with a ceiling track hoist, so it really is accessible for people with disabilities. This has recently been installed and we are so pleased to see this :)
The cafe is incredibly expensive though.

Been a member since 1975. LOTS of changes since then. Allowing for the severe impact of Covid and reduced funds etc, and no doubt avian flu this year.. I can understand both as a member and as an ornithologist/ecologist why things have deteriorated here. Some are short term issues and understandable ( such as the condition of the collection, though I cannot see why the, albeit gorgeous and spectacular, littoral/pelagic not-endangered Inca tern is being prioritised over 'wetland', conservation species!!).
Parts of the wild area are being very badly mismanaged. Reedbed, meadows, grassy bunds, islands etc... Little wonder SO many crucial breeding spp, such as Lapwing and Snipe are crashing here.
The cafe prices are TOTALLY outrageous. Seven (7) quid!!!!! today for a scone and butter and Cappucino. The costliest in the North-west I guess. A flask next time I feel! Sorry, but MMWWT ain't what it was!

Nice to wander round the hides and get away from the family areas, which are well set up for kids and family activities, but that's not for us. Good paths and well sign posted. A great variety if wet land birds . Convenient loos near the hides were appreciated.

Visited recently on the 14th May with my Son & Family. Enjoyed walking around the park looking at all the wild life. Had food in the Cafe, Children chose the Kiddies brown paper lunch bags, choice of cheese or ham Sandwich, on arrival of the lunch bags we found there was only half a sandwich in each bag....come on Guys, surely you can spare 2 full rounds of bread per Kiddies bag, especially with the cost of the entrance fee. On leaving the park, we stopped to watch some of the ducks that were on dry land. We noticed that one poor female duck looked like she was being attacked by approx another 12 -15 ducks, a member of our party clapped her hands to try and stop the aggression to no avail, so just stepped over the small fence to shoo them away! Next minute we were met by 2 female members of Staff must say in their latter years, rudely shouting “ what do you think your doing”, speaking to us like we were Kiddies at school. We explained the situation that we were concerned for the welfare of the female duck, and was rudely told “that’s how they mate” Well I have since found out that the drakes can be very aggressive when mating and can kill or smother the Female duck! If the 2 members of staff in question had been paying attention instead of sat around having a Mother’s meeting so to speak, this would not of happened! Maybe it’s time you 2 ladies retire!!

It’s been many years since we last visited here, but another visit was long over due.
There are plenty of pathways and seats to sit on throughout the site. We saw the otter being fed, another one is due to arrive shortly.
There were plenty of birds to see, not being knowledgeable about many of the birds, I was pleased to see that there were many information boards dotted around with photos and details of the regular birds, which was very helpful. The highlight was seeing the new black swan chicks that had recently been born.
Many of the staff are volunteers and were busy doing various jobs like building fences front cut down tree branches and maintaining the property.
We had a bowl of onion soup which was crammed full of onions, tasty and enjoyed outdoors in the sunshine.

Is the site pushchair friendly?
Mr_Squirrel
Formby, UK26 bidrag
Yes, the site is pushchair friendly. We have a double and went round with no problems at all.
You can even go round the "Wild Walk", although if it has rained there are a few soft spots, as it's a flat route at the moment.
There's also a lower viewing window for the otter area now so children can see in without having to be lifted up.
There are several Lego features around the site to look out for as well.
Have a great time if you go.

how much forase 2 adults and 1 child ple
nick b
Burscough, UK
Hi - it depends on how old the child is as under 4s are free. If the child is between the ages of 4-16 then it would be £13.00 per adult and £6.95 for a child making a total of £32.95. If you wanted to pay the gift aid price, which, as a chatiry, allows us to reclaim your tax on this money for our charitable conservation work, then the total would be £36.25. Don't forget that you can also take out an annual membership for a 2 adult family for £88 per year and visit as much as you like. You can also pay the annual membership by a monthly direct debit of £7.33.
cheers
