We visited on a September day and had a good time looking out over the majestic beach. Close to restaurants and pubs, and a good spot for surf watching.

I grew up in Newcastle and have visited this beach many times after leaving the north east 30 years ago….it is as good as any beach anywhere in the sun and a bitter walk in the winter….either way it’s clean, wide and quiet with lovely sand….and dog friendly in areas.

What a beautiful beach long sands beach is. This was our first visit to this beach and were really impressed with this beach.
Very clean and plenty of room. Didn’t feel overcrowded at all despite it being a red hot day. There is a restaurant at the other end of the beach which is nice and facilities were clean. Life guards were on the beach and volunteers walking up and down the beach removing any litter. The kids really enjoyed being in the sea and building sand castles.
We will definitely be back to this beach.

Love this unspoilt beach, lots of families about despite the threat of rain, plenty of paddle boarders & surfers too, really clean with limited left over rubbish, think this is probably due to the great locals who come out litter picking.
Loved the idea outside Crusoe’s where you can discard you unwanted buckets & spades for others to use rather than abandon them, also no dog walking on the beach at the current time (think it’s between Mar & Sep) which I applaud as my grandson is terrified of dogs so it’s a safe haven for him.

This is a lovely beach - naturally better in the sunshine but still pretty cool in overcast conditions.
It is free to access and half the beach is dog friendly,
The sea was calm when we were there, to the extent that people were braving paddle boarding and swimming. We were also lucky enough to see a seal a short way out from shore.

I came to Tynemouth beach with my two young children, after school. The beach was packed and the weather was fantastic.
I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne so I know Tynemouth well. I was initially impressed by the ‘No dogs’ policy in the summer months. This is reassuring for those of us who don’t happen to be besotted with dogs.
Unfortunately, it was downhill from there. Having fancied a coffee, the beach restaurant was closed and the seating removed. Why? The beach was packed and this would have been a huge money spinner. There was a large queue at the kiosk , which should demonstrated the demand requirement on the beach, yet the kiosk closed shortly after 5:30 pm.
The main issue was the fact that the public toilets were also closed. This was unacceptable. The beach was packed and both kids needed the toilet.
But for the spotless beautiful beach I would have awarded one star. Only in the UK would you experience such dismal hospitality. This is a stunning tourist attraction and a wonderful stretch of coast line. Why on earth would there not be some toilets and somewhere to get some refreshments on warm summer evening on the beach?
We were not the only people complaining about the toilets. It needs sorting out.

Took my grandson on Monday, it was freezing but wrapped up warm & the fresh air was lovely, the sun was shining so took the edge off, was really surprised how many people were about, especially dog walkers, was really clean as well with no signs of dogs other than paw prints in the sand, my only observation would be to ensure you have good recall with your dog, my grandson is frightened of them & we stayed away from the waters edge where most were walking but several dogs ran up to him & he got upset, please be considerate to others, he loves the beech so no way we’re going to stop going.

Wonderful stretch of beach at its best on a winter's day with the waves crashing the shoreline. Better when the dogs are out of the way!

Stunning beach. Very clean. Popular with paddle borders and people doing open water swimming. A nice place to sit and enjoy the scenery. Car parking close by and easy to get to.

Where are dogs allowed round tyne mouth Whitley bay please

Half of the beach at Whitley Bay is dog friendly.
You can use the beach from St Mary's Lighthouse end all the way down to Rendezvous cafe.
There is free parking available at the big Briardene car park ( opposite the pub).
We love Tynemouth Long sands too! Half of the beach is dog friendly. Walk from The View (restaurant) end and there is a small flag to mark where the dog friendly zone ends.

What are the current rules about bbqs on the beach?
Dr_Waugh
Newcastle (upon Tyne), UK6 308 bidrag
The council discourage this but it is accepted that visitors will bring disposable BBQs. They ask that you use them appropriately. Don’t site them on grasses. Be safe and wait until they have cooled completely before binning them. Or pour water on to put them out before disposing into waste bins.
There’s an article on the Evening Chronicle website about this that is easily found.
I prefer to get food from Riley’s or Longsands fish kitchen or take a picnic. It can be breezy and sand burgers are no fun.
Hope that helps!

You can park quite near beach in front of grand hotel and sit at cafe on the beach . There is another gentle slope access point further round , and if you go to the rendezvous car park you get access to the promenade , not too far and on the flat . Some beach access from there , I have certainly got a wheelchair onto sand from there . After that .....
good luck it is so beautiful ..

Yes - until May 1st they are allowed on the entire beach. From May 1st the beach is split between sections where dogs are not permitted - there are sign posts.

Hi
Yes it is dog friendly all year around but summer restrictions are in place between May and September.
If you park by St Georges church you can use that end of the beach up to the part of the beach level with the Park Hotel.
Hope that helps.
We call it the Cullercoats end of Longsands.

All the beaches are dog friendly til may1st. Depending on what type of dog you have I would suggest king Edwards bay beach for a little dog my pug puppy loves it there. All other sizes go to the Longsands beach. There all beautiful with blue flags. Enjoy your day out.
