Great dog friendly pub. Lots of beers on tap and staff and very friendly. Ideal little stop on a walk for a swift drink.

I went for lunch at the Vic last Thursday. And I can’t believe what I am reading from other reviews. The service was poor. The food was horrendous, I would never go again, I had a cheese melt sandwich and it was awful the cheese was not fresh and must have come out of jar and it looked like a bad cold, the fries were undercooked and not that warm. My husband had a sausages baps, the sausages were really fat, it was not at all what we expected. It is overpriced (£9 each) and absolutely awful. We never complained I wish I did but we were too polite. I will never go there for lunch ever again. It was the worst sandwich I had in years.

I visited The Victoria on Sunday to have a Sunday lunch after 'Googling' restaurants in Hitchin for a good roast! This is the first time I have been there and will def return. Bar staff and waiting staff friendly and attentive and food was fab. When I first pulled up and went in I was a bit apprehensive and there's no 'fancy' décor but it really is a hidden gem.

If you are looking for a pub that has great beer and a sense of understated style, then you will love The Vic. Live music, local food, real ales (I know, I should be saying 'Craft Beers'!), outside seating and the lovely barn are just some of the things that add to the ambience. Watch out for the regular special events (the Facebook Page is excellent) and make sure you don't miss the annual VicFest.

Went Wednesday 12th April 2017 for a lunch time meal. Parking is a problem as the Public House does not have any parking but you can park in the car park over the road for £1 an hour.
My first impression when I walked in was of surprise as the Public House had been recommended to me and its very ordinary. These initial reservations were soon gone as I saw a vast selection of real ale on tap. I ordered my Black Sheep and put my order in for pork shoulder and mash.
Meal came in good time and it was exceptional.
If you are looking for good pub food in Hitchin then this is the place for you.

We went to meet up with about 12 friends for a few evening drinks for a birthday celebration. The bar staff are very fast, friendly and polite. The drinks are very reasonablely priced with a great selection of bars and and ciders and all the spirits you would need.
For me the heated beer garden was great as I like to Vape and this was a very comfortable area.

Been to The Victoria many times. There's always so much on. Music, comedy, fine ale and, usually depending on who you're with, great company.
Recommend this pub to anyone. You won't be disappointed.

I have always enjoyed my visits to the Victoria and eaten there a few times. I went there for Sunday lunch last weekend and was surprised to find the food very disappointing. Perhaps it was a bad decision to order the special - Torbay Sole. It certainly was not the dish I was expecting. The presentation alone was not one that inspired joy. Not much in the way of trimmings, sauce or even a slice of lemon. It was obvious to me that this dish had not been lovingly prepared. Although many fish dishes have that familiar seafood smell, the aroma emanating from this dish was a strong, pungent one that I wouldn't describe as pleasant. Although I would not go so far as to say that the sole was off, it was apparent from the very strong smell that this fish was perhaps a day beyond its best. From a pub that has been awarded a certificate of excellence, I would only expect to be served fish that is super fresh.
Perhaps I should have gone for the safer option of Sunday Roast but considering the Vic has a reputation for good food, I had high expectations of being served something a little different. Sadly it was different, but not in a good way.

Been here many times, lunch, dinner, a few drinks, or to get some atmosphere watching the rugby on the big TV in the barn at the back of the pub. Food consistently good, drinks served at the right temperatures and the staff always welcoming. Great mix of people of all ages, locals or folks passing, but always a good atmosphere.

We have been here several times and the food never disappoints- tend to have soup and a sandwich. The soup is clearly home made and the flavours wonderful- yesterday's was Jerusalem artichoke and carrot. It was amazing. The toastie hits the spot every time. The barmaid remembers you - in a town pub I think great.
