The museum was abosultely fantastic - it was very interactive and we enjoyed being able to watch videos, touch some of the weapons and try on the armour to learn more about the battle. The volunteers were brilliant, so knowledgable - David and Jo took their time to talk through lots of information with us and to discuss different views of Richard III. The guided tour with Michael was very entertaining and also super informative. Reception staff were also very friendly - we did not catch your names! We also enjoyed a nice big cuppa in the café with a vegan sausage roll and a cake ;)We would highly recommend to visitors of all ages and will definitely be back!

We arrived by steam train and walked across the heritage site to the visitor centre. Good way points around the site explaining medieaval warfare and showing views of what the battlefield would have looked like at the time. The memorial at the field is also interesting.
The visitor centre is excellent and well worth the fee that is valid for a year. The exhibition takes you through the wars of the roses, life at the time and has several interactive parts that test your knowledge and give you the chance to experience the armour etc. The audio is well set up so that the different stories do not interfere with each other. The centre piece is the immersive description of the battle (not gory) which clearly explains the story of the battle and is very well balanced. The end explains the record of the two kings and gives you a chance to vote on who was better.

My husband and I came to Market Bosworth for a weekend with a group of friends who had all been before. As a result they had told us about the Bosworth Heritage Centre experience which was well worth going to. Recommendations are always worth following up so we pitched up at the centre on Saturday at midday. The centre reception was manned by a very friendly lady and we purchased tickets for a visit to the exhibition, plus tickets to the daily walking tour of the battlefield. We thoroughly enjoyed the hands on exhibition of the story of Richard 111 versus Henry VII which appealed to both young and old alike. The walking tour commenced promptly at 1.30 pm with an expected duration of 1-1/2 hours and a distance of 1.2 miles through the wood and environs. Graham, our guide, was truly excellent making the history so real. We were encouraged as a small group to take part in the story (I was Duke of York, father of Richard and Edward) . We carried the flags of the protagonists, wooden swords and the story evolved along the way. Graham was engaging and so knowledgeable and we learned so much. This was an utter pleasure and, as the weather was kind to us, an experience not to be missed. Long may it continue.

Easy to find and well signposted. It consists of a huge heritage centre which I recommend you go round first. It’s really informative. I then headed out to the battlefield area. It was a warm day but I can imagine it’s freezing when the wind blows as it’s so exposed. You can do the walk taking in the information boards. You come to Shenstone station, you can take the steam train here or carry on walking to Sutton Cheney Wharf where there is a nice cafe and you can watch the narrow boats. If you choose to drive to the wharf then it’s only a small car park and easy to get hemmed in.
There’s also a cafe at the battlefield heritage centre.
I thought it was great here. Well worth a trip.

Thank you so much Shirley for your review. The Team are delighted that you enjoyed your visit to the Heritage Centre. We are very lucky to be situated where we are, amongst beautiful countryside, close to the Ashby Canal and of course the Battlefield Railway line. We of course agree with you that it is well worth the trip and hope that you come back and see us again soon.

We visited the Heritage Centre in half term week and were surprised to find it wasn't that busy. John on the admission desk was lovely and very helpful and we spent several hours immersed in the atmosphere of the place. The exhibits are very interesting and designed to engage adults and children alike. Your ticket is good for a year from issue and we will certainly be back with the grandchildren next time.
Gift shop excellent, Keith was very friendly and helpful and gave me a map and explained about the circular walk. All in all a grand day out!
(Sadly no guides on duty the day we visited).

Good Morning Benedict, thank you so much for your lovely review. The Team work very hard to ensure that visitors to the Heritage Centre enjoy their time with us and John will be thrilled to be mentioned. As you know, your tickets are valid for 12 months, so please come back and see us again. From November, we will still be offering guided walks, but because of the shorter days, we will be offering one walk at 1.30pm on Saturday and again Sunday ( pre-booking advised). Thank you again.

We had a tour with Graham. What an excellent story teller, really brought the battle to life and helped us to understand all the main characters involved. I also think the price of the tour was a bargain!

Graham our guide made our experience come alive today. This is Our first trip to Bosworth and it was really good, we knew a little about the history so the excellent heritage centre museum exhibition gave so much more insight to living at the time of the battle and the development and final outcome of the event. However I do feel despite the great level of information around the sites we got so much more out of our visit by taking the guided tour - Graham our guide really made the history come alive by animating the events with helpful artefacts flags etc etc he is so knowledgable and managed to bring history to life ! Brilliant

Came for the guided tour with my wife and family.
Graham our tour guide took was brilliant.
Eager to answer questions, got everyone involved and really brought the history back to life.
£4.50 for the tour is great value for money.
We didn't have time to visit the museum as we had a meal booked we had to get to, but will try to call again and would highly recommend the experience.
Thank you

I plan on traveling from London to the battlefield then back to London in a day and I have a few questions. Does anyone that you know of run tours ether out of London or Leicester for day trippers like myself? I'd like to visit Leicester and the historic sites there on the same day, am I trying to pack too much into one day or is this doable (If I get an early start)? Thank you all for your help, I'm excited about my visit this summer.

Hi there - if you really want to get the most out of a visit to Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, the King Richard III Visitor Centre and Leicester cathedral, I would recommend that you do this over 2 days. The Go Leicestershire website (we can't post links) should be useful in terms of accommodation etc.
I hope you enjoy your visit

I'm not sure that the exact spot has been attributed yet and is on a private farm somewhere so I don't think it is open as a visitor site as yet. However Ambion Hill is close enough to the encampments and you can walk to Richard's Well. The Visitor Centre may have a map in shop with local public footpaths on but unless anything has changed recently you might need your welly boots to go across a wheatfield. Sorry I can't be much more helpful. However there is a lot of nice walking with history from the site. There is a history trail with armour, weapones and info whcih can be follewed from the Visitor Centre. You could also catch the steam railway fro, Shackerstone to Shenton Station and walk up to Ambion Hill, from where you can see all the fields for miles.

I understand that the Ambion Hill site where the museum is located is not the actual battlefield site. I've heard conflicting reports as to whether or not one can walk from the Visitor Centre to the recently-discovered site of the actual battle. Could someone please clarify this for me?

Hi there - the viewpoint at Ambion Hill over looks the new site where we believe the battle of Bosworth was fought. This is on private land, so there is no public access to the site
During the week of the reinterment in March this year, we did run a series of guided tours to the site via minibus. At the moment there are no plans to run these again this year, but this might be something that we look at for next year
Kind regards

Merci
Which is the best/easiest way to visit the Bosworth Battlefield/Heritage Centre and Leicester Cathedral and
City coming from London. We are three adults, not so young anymore and cannot walk too much...is there
no organised tour? Thany you
LCC_HeritageService
Leicester, UK
Hi there - unfortunately at the moment there are no organised tours taking in the 3 attractions you mention, so the easiest way to visit Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, Leicester Cathedral and the King Richard III Visitor Centre would be to get to Leicester first. You could then visit the King Richard III Visitor Centre to see where his mortal remins were found before going to the cathedral to see where he is buried.
From Leicester, it would probably be easiest and quickest to get a taxi to Bosworth Battlefield which would take about 45 minutes
I hope that helps with planning your trip
Kind regards
