Mahe which is a little part of Puducherry that lies within Kerala, is really a hidden gem of beauty. This place offers you a beautiful view of backwaters and open sea with lush green background on one side with a little hill walk and on other side the picturesque coconut tree line marking the shore.
This place can be poster card of beautiful western ghats touching Arabian sea.
In this tiny town you can feel the peace, relaxation while even taking a stroll on the sea pathway. Its offers a slow down to the fast pacing life.
If you are planning a trip to either Calicut (Khozikode) or Kannur, you can easily plan a 1-2 hour stop at this place in your journey, which you would not regret.

Hi, this walkway is close to Hotel French Avenue where we stayed. Shops are avaliable outside this walkway in case you want to buy any eateries. Best place to view sunset.

Pleasant enough walkway although in need of some TLC.... ideal for an early evening stroll to watch the sunset. Plenty of benches to sit and take in the views.
Well used by locals.

The walk through the Mahe walk way at the dawn is a nice experience. The breeze from sea with the music of the waves is a feast not only to the eyes and ears but to the whole body. Surely it will energise you for the whole day.

Mayyazhipuzha (the Mahé River, also known popularly during the British rule as the English Channel) has its significance not only in History and trades but also in the Malayalam literature and other areas. Originating from the forests along the western slopes of the Wayanad Hills in the Western Ghats, it travels about 54 Km, covering an area of 394 Sq. Km and merges the Arabian sea, dividing Mahé from the Kannur district. The picturesque estuary, where the Arabian sea embraces the Mayyazhi-puzha (Mayyazhi meaning eyebrow of the sea = Beautiful Estuary) is Azhimukham.
Mahe Riverside Walkway project, progressing along the banks of River Mahé, envisages the resemblance of a diamond necklace around the landscape of the Mahe town. The entire Walkway is about 2 Km, stretching between the Azhimukham, along the wooded Hillock in the Western coast and the Water Sports Complex, encircling a rocky area along the eastern border of Mahe at Manjakkal.
The existing 500 m long Riverside Walkway has been completed at a cost of INR 5.00 crores as Phase I, between the Azhimukham Hillock and the Mahe Bridge (along the Kanyakumari - Kochi - Panvel Highway) and was opened to the public on 09.02.2011. This also encloses the Tagore Park, Childrens’ Play Area, Freedom Fighters War Memorial, and Marianne Statue along with the entrance to the Hillock Heritage Picnic Spot and the historic Light House, a few meters west.
The Phase III, along the North-eastern border of Mahé town at Manjakkal, of 500 m long is now completed at the cost of INR 6.00 crores under the CSS project “Development of Riverside Walkway and beautification of beach at Mahe”, sanctioned by the Government of India, and is being thrown open for the public use and relaxation on 18th November 2019. From here, one can get a wonderful panoramic view of the high rising mountains of Wayanad, the Kanakamala hill, the Mayyazhi Railway bridge, the wide river marshlands and the mangroves, beyond the eastern end.
Once the most difficult and the longest (800 m walk and 25 m bridge crossing) II phase linking the two completed phases is executed, at the cost of 12.70 crores (taken up under HUDCO loan), the entire walkway of nearly about 2 Km might prove to be a unique tourist attraction of Mahe.

Awesome place to spend time with friends and family. Great view of sea and river merging together. There is a childrens park and walkway for fun and morning job etc. Watching Sunset is a good experience. Enough parking place and lots of space to sit down and rest. Well maintained. A small lighthouse also situated inside the park (entry fees) for a better view.
Walkway towards sea is still in construction. People also come here for fishing.

Mahe River Side Walkway. This is just 500m from the St.Therasa's shrine. Mahe River Side Walkway is a well maintained place by the Mahe river leading into Arabian sea. The walkway is quite clean and perfect place to kill time. We spent around 15 minutes here.

I consider this as an ideal place to relax with the family in the evenings, away from the noisy city sounds. There is a children park for the kids to play. A small restaurant for snacks and Tea run by the Govt.of Puducherry. When ever I go to Mahe,I love going for a morning walk in this long walk way( approx. length of the walk way may be about 600 to 700 meters.) The evening sunset is a wonderful experience where you can see the sunset at the point where the Mahe river is joining the sea.( Photos of sun set attached).
Also you can see many birds in the shore in the morning times. There is a boating facility with a special boarding point. The park is very crowded on special occasions with families.
There is a Hillock, with the entrance from the walkway, which is nicely renovated recently, surrounded by gardens and tall trees, with not so many steps, so that people of all ages can go. There is the old light house on top and a nice Platform from where you can enjoy the sun set view and Photography. The entry ticket is Rs.10/- for adults and Rs.5/- for children, Rs.25/- for Camera and Rs.100 for Video camera,

There is a famous church, St.Theresa Church here to see. People of all the religions come and see this church. Also mahe is famous for the numerous liquor shops where the cost is very low, due to the low excise duty in Puducherry state. Most of the bars here will be crowded by people from surrounding areas of Kerala.
Is there a possibility of hiring a bike for a day?
