A peaceful Buddhist Monastery

This is the first Buddhist Monastery I have every visited in life. The simplicity is the hallmark of this place. It is a peaceful worshipping place with a few tourists around, and one can see many students studying Buddhism in this religious school. The surrounding is covered in lush green forest like trees and the road leading to this place is amazing. Overall its a nice experience to visit this place with my family, and I recommend this place.

A good place to pray quietly.

There were only a few people quietly turning the prayer wheels here, which was full of fog or clouds, and monks dressed as purple Tibetan monks were heard praying in the building next to the stupa.
Overall, it seemed quiet and peaceful.

Nice Stupa

30 minute from town.Except the stupa there is nothing noteworthy there.If you park the car in car park it is a lot of incline to go up about 300 yards.

Do Drul Chorten has One main Stupa and 6 or 7 small stupas around it. It is located on TOP a hill and is located close to the Institute of Tibetology - another important landmark near Gangtok.

If you visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, chances are you will visit this stupa a few minutes walk uphill. Said to comprise magical powers to ward off evil, this is another heritage sight of buddhist faith. In case, you are not interested in either the aspects of faith or history associated, consider skipping. The sight of diligent monks filling up butter lamps and spinning prayer wheels offers a serendipity of its own.
Please ensure you maintain due diligence of being quite and behaving dignified to respect the sanctity of this place.

Active Monastery

Quite a busy place with many monks/students around during our visit. A good uphill walk from the car park, so the elderly and infirm need to take care. The main stupa is surrounded by prayer wheels and a candle room generating massive heat loads is of additional interest.

Deeply impressive..............

This is a very impressive stupa (and monastery) and well woth visitng if only to spin the prayer wheels around it. The atmosphere is enhanced by the nuns who are managing the lighting of butter candles in the building by the stupa.What is clear is that although this place is visited by many tourists it is also an active and thriving community of monks and nuns dedicated to the Buddhist faith.
