worth visit. My dream to visit snow fulfilled here for the first time. The khandala waterfall and snow were not differentiable.

to everyone who wants to make a trip to Sikkim shortly. Mount katao is situated in Lachung basically if you make a trip to Sikkim that includes the northern part of the state first you will visit Lachen then next day lachung in your a trip to Lachung first place will be mount katao. the place is astonishingly beautiful you will witness the true beauty of the place if you can able to make a trip from the last week of March till the second week of April. the place seems like heaven and all the trees covered with snow give you the absolute feelings of mini Switzerland. you can enjoy the beautiful mountains while sipping the coffee.I hope that you guys will visit the place soon and witness the beauty of the place. This was December 16, 2019 just before pandemic torn apart the world. I accompanied 12 other extremely jolly minded companions and reached La chung on that breath taking night of gusty wind. We woke up early in the morning and gathered to explore Yumthang Valley but unfortunately permission was not achieved due to road blockage from snow falling. Alternatively we chose to go for Mount Katao as was advised by our hotel management and tour operator. We manged to start after some good bargaining with drivers. Along the way I was awed to find the beauty of La Chung and surrounding landscapes. After almost 25 km of journey we reached the scenic Mount Katao. Snow was all around the road since we could only reach at some point where Tibet could be seen. We stopped on a bridge side where the astounding scene of snow covered mountains could be seen. The sun was bright and the snow was dazzling like diamonds. Since this was my first appearance of any snow covered area I was astounded by the beauty of this nature. We stayed there for about an hour, took photos and videos and played with snowballs. The memories are still afresh specially the spectacular view of near and far mountains. I wish I could visit again and again.

This place is just amazing. You will feel like you are in Switzerland or may be in heaven. The view that you see here is some thing that you will try to capture as much as possible in camera and in your eyes... Must visit place in Sikkim

Very recently , November 2019I have been to this place with my family . On the way our cab driver promised a great show is awaiting us and something like that , but suddenly he stopped the car in a place near a big falls and told us this is Katao , and the army does not give permission to move beyond this place as this place is very near to China border , though there is no sigh on any army man as far as our eyes can travel . Only green hills grinned at us . No sigh of snow any where .
We stayed there hopelessly for a few minutes and then returned to Yumthung .
So please be careful before you opt for Katao .

Mt.Khatau was added to our Sikkim itinerary as an after thought because a lot of Yumthang valley was closed due to snowfall. If one is staying in Lachung, then Khatau is a great place to head to
The mountains are magnificent. There are great sights with interspersing white and green all over. Some of the sights are right out of a picture book from the European Alps, if not better.
The terrain is such that it lends itself very well for monkeying around in the snow and to click childish pics of jumping in the snow and throwing snowballs at each other.
The place is also good for walking around. The roads are reasonably well maintained too thanks as always to the Indian Army.

I was overwhelmed with joy because, first time in my life I have seen snow at Mount Katao.You can lay down over the snow in the Katao valley. The place is amazing though we could not go far due to snow logged in roads became skidding and risky.Your minds will definitely be fresh if you would go there.

amazing place, but travelling time from gangtok to katao is arround 6 to 6.5 hours. my suggestion will be to spend atleast 2 days at lachung

Don't cheat the public. There isn't anything in katao. There is only an army checkpost and we cannot cross the check post... Tell me the answer for what you are spreading rumours to the public? It is good to visit for the climate but in terms of travel it is waste. There is nothing and everything lies beyond the checkpost which we could not visit and don't fool the public if you visit Katao you will get disappointed at the end..... Then why are you suggesting k a t a o?

Permit is required for everyone and permit is given at Gangtok. Mt Katao is towards Lachung. Kindly inquire at any travel/tour desk in Gantok.

From Lachung rent a vehicle. The travel person who brings you from Gangtok to Lachung can take you but at addl cost. Note this place is in opp direction from Yumthang or Zero Point
