O monumento é muito imponente e foi construÃdo em homenagem ao inglês Duque de Wellington. Fica localizado bem próximo ao Zoológico de Dublin.
Um dos seus principais feitos do Duque de Wellington foi derrotar Napoleão Bonaparte na famosa Batalha de Waterloo, que marcou o fim da Era Napoleônica. A luta durou apenas um dia, em 18 de junho de 1815 e, nela, franceses, ingleses e seus aliados enfrentaram-se no campo de batalha que terminou com a derrota francesa.
Após o conflito, Napoleão Bonaparte foi preso pelos ingleses e levado à ilha de Elba, enquanto os vencedores se reuniram em torno do Congresso de Viena para redesenhar o mapa europeu.

Really enjoyed visiting Wellington Monument following its restoration. We only had half an hour to spare which was perfect. Took about 10 minutes to walk from the car park. Stunning views. Interesting information boards that tells you about its history. Best to check when it's open to climb to the top. Would be a great place for a picnic as several picnic tables/benches etc. Dog friendly.

Lovely views. Good to actually go and see it when we had spent many years seeing it from the motorway! It looks like you can only go inside on certain days…..not on the day we visited.

Stopped to visit on our journey between Axminster and Dunster Castke (NT) and really glad we did. Hadn't booked to climb the monument but were lucky to be greeted by two friendly and knowledgeable volunteers who had a gap in timings and helped us make a donation on line to pay to enter the monument.
Steep and narrow staircase inside but views well worth it. Nice walk from carpark to monument with historical information on the way and also around the monument. Worth a visit if in the area and could spend 45 mins to an hour.

Nice spot for a detour. We could see the monument for miles and had to see it up close. Lovely walk up from the car park (small fee payable at machine, free for National Trust members), then fantastic views from the top. The monument is impressive, although a tall column is, well, a tall column. I note from other reviews that climbing to the top is possible with pre-booking and no doubt a head for heights!

A nice big carpark. No facilities though and a ticket machine with a mind of its own. Advised that up to 2 hours was a particular cost, I paid it only to be issued with a ticket for an hour! A short wooded walk includes information on the monument and the history of its building and more recent renovation. It is possible to go up the monument with a guide but we stayed at ground level. The views are slightly reduced by the tree growth - something that going up the tower would get over. In a nice touch, stone removed from the monument in the renovation has been repurposed as seating by the canon. National Trust staff were on hand to talk about the guided tours etc.

Lovely walk up to the monument and terrific views when you get there across Somerset. Dog friendly - lots of space for them to run around.
Coffee van by the entrance selling drinks and snacks. :)
Downside is trying to pay for the car park. Ticket machine accepts cash (not everyone has this anymore) or via an app which needs setting up on your phone. Come National Trust - go contactless!!!

A lovely walk through the woods from the car park which gives you historical info on architectural boards along tge way. You have to pay for the car park via a machine but quite often it does not work so parking is free. The monument is amazing and the views stunning. During the Warmer weather there is a vendor selling drinks at the monument.

The stroll from the car park is flat and easy and well worth it for the panoramic view.

A landmark that can be seen for many miles around, this has recently re-opened after an extensive refurbishment. If you want to go up the tower, then this has to be pre-booked, and spaces are quite limited with it only being open three days per week, only during the summer, and each half-hour slot limited to three people. Once you get in you can see why though, you certainly wouldn’t want to meet anyone coming the other way on the narrow spiral staircase, and the viewing platform at the top is miniscule, you can just about fit two people on it and even then you need to get quite cosy!
It's worth making the effort to climb the 232 steps though, the views from the top are suitably spectacular. It was very windy when we visited, you could hear it gusting long before you reach the top, and the pendulum that hangs down above your head to keep the point in place was even swinging slightly. The guide doesn’t accompany you, but sends you on your way with a two-way radio and a hard hat. All in all, well worth a visit.
