I'd never actually visited Wellington before, so my friend first of all took me to see the monument which has fairly-recently been restored and updated. We parked in the smallish carpark, and then had a muddy but pleasant walk through the very tall trees and across a lot of mole-hills to the famous monument. I was very impressed - it is apparently the tallest obelisk in the world - amazing! We walked around it and admired the stunning views but we didn't have the courage to climb it (we hadn't booked an appointment anyway). There is a wonderful iron door painted green and an ancient cannon to see, too. All very historic.

With the monument being closed to visitors for the last few years I took the opportunity to climb the 232 steps to the top this year. you have to book a time slot in advance online, then are sent up in threes with hard hats and a radio for any emergencies. Tight at the top, only really room for 2 to stand on the final small landing but great views of the country side on a fine day. Came down and took in some of the short walks around the hill.

Car parking is a reasonable £1 in my opinion given the upkeep that must be required going forwards. Good place to spend a couple of hours on a nice day.

Pleasant walk to the monument through the trees and once you get up there - wow, what a colossal height .
At 175ft and the tallest 3-sided obelisk in the world - very fascinating

As this is now a National Trust site you need to pay for the parking, but there are no changes in the services offered , like more bins for the dog bags. There are two as you walk in from the car park and that's it. Also, it looks like they started blocking the "labyrinth" of roots the children played and walked in , along the boundary. To top it off there is a big sign saying not not to walk on the grass as there is a natural habitat ( fair enough) but there are car tracks from monument workers .

My wife and I took our young children here after a Sunday roast at a near by pub. Nice short walk, the car park is small and if a busy day then you are likely not to get parking.

We had a lovely walk to the monument, so good to see that the National Trust are restoring it, will be interesting to see when it’s completed. Good signage and information along the route

Went to see if the monument was open and car park was. Walked up the pathway and there were signs to celebrate 200 years. There was also information about when the monument was built and finished. There were solid wooden seat benches on the pathway. Last year when I visited (Oct 2019) not much scaffolding but the whole monument was covered this time.
Very pleasant walk and not many people around. It was early evening when we visited with the dog.

It’s covered in scaffolding at the moment so not much to see. Lovely walks up to and around it for dogs.
