My family and I had such an amazing time at the Taipa House Museum in Macau! From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were totally captivated by the place.

The historic building has this really cool Portuguese vibe that just sets the perfect cultural atmosphere. It felt like we had been transported to another era as soon as we went inside.

The exhibits in the museum are so engaging and interactive - they really bring the history and culture of Macau to life in such a fun way. My kids loved getting to experience the traditional local lifestyle first-hand. It was such a unique learning opportunity for them.

And the staff there were awesome - so friendly and helpful in answering all our questions. They gave us some great insights that made us appreciate Macau's beauty even more.

A beautiful part of Macau's history. We take ourselves back to the 1920s with these period villas, one of which you can visit.
Then, I advise you to go for a stroll in the nearby Taipa district, to feel the soul of Macau, and find a place to eat.
You can try one of the Portuguese restaurants.

There's not much to see really. This is small collection of 5 houses and only 2 were opened when we visited. 1 showcased a place of residence from colonial era which can be seen in under 5 minutes and the other is a souvenir store which was lovely. Good stroll-through nevertheless when in Taipa Village.

Right in front of the houses is the Taipa Wetlands Ecological Trail and next to it the Dra. Laurinda M. Esparteiro Garden. Across the garden, you can follow a series of travellators and overhead bridge that will take you to the Venetian.

There are five peppermint green buildings lined up, which are very Portuguese. I couldn't go inside because it was before opening time, but they remind me of the Portuguese colonial period.

4 out of 5 houses (1 living museum, 1 book store, 2 art galleries) are open for free admission so definitely worth a visit if you are in the taipa/cotai area. (approx 30 minutes of visit) The museum is an exhibit of Macanese lifestyle and it's fascinating to see how Portuguese cultures and lifestyle evolved in the Orient. The book store was cute and bougie, we bought a ceramic Portuguese tart cup, some art prints, and handcrafted magnets as souvenirs. Would be great if most bungalows here are converted into living museums because 1 is clearly not enough. Make sure you check out the nearby park and marsh if you're not a fan of casinos.

A set of three old portuguese colonial houses within a garden/walkway with a view to what in the old days should be the sea and Coloane island, nowadays is an artificial lake with wetlands and the Casinos in Cotai, as City of Dreams and Venetian, for landscape. The buildings houses some exhibition purposes, shops and museum. Should be a good option to a relax walk and away from the bustling trade streets in Taipa village center.

The Taipa Houses Museum is located on the north end of the wetlands and a couple hundred metres east of the busy centre of Taipa Village. It makes use of five Portuguese style residences built in 1921 that were used by senior civil servants. In 1992, these houses were recognised for their valuable historic architecture and in 1999 were repurposed and opened to the public as the Taipa Houses Museum.

Several of the houses are open to visit from 10am to 7pm daily (closed on Mondays) and admission is free. They each are delightful to view from the outside and have specific themes which you can enjoy within.

House 1 is the Macanese Living Museum, with ground floor and upstairs rooms decorated with furniture from the first half of the 20th century that would have been found in colonial style houses around Macau.

House 2 is an exhibition gallery where cultural events and art shows are held periodically. If such occasion is taking place, house 2 may be open at the time of your visit. Otherwise, there is a good chance it is not and can only be viewed from the outside.

House 3 is now being used by The Universal Gallery and Bookstore, which sells Portuguese themed items and gifts, literature books and local artwork. It is a neat shop for those looking to pick up a souvenir of visits to Macau.

House 4 is another exhibition gallery which regularly hosts shows features local artists or collective exhibitions related to culture, heritage and life in Macau. This exhibition hall is usually open most of the year.

House 5 is a reserved for formal receptions and activities and as such is rarely open for the public to visit. Like House 2, it is usually a place you are limited to viewing from the outside.

Give yourself 10 minutes for the Living Museum, 5 minutes to browse Universal Gallery and Bookstore and another 5-10 minutes to view whatever exhibition is being held in House 4. Then carry onward with other sightseeing endeavours nearby.
