It’s just a bit of fun, you are over the bridge before you know it, but it’s a tiny bridge on a very busy road ! It’s a bit of fun to follow local tradition and say hello to the fairies 🧚‍♀️…. I said hello but I’m not expecting to win the lottery or anything but tradition has been followed and traditions are important …. Enjoy the small hump in the road, be realistic about what you will see and say hello to them little fairies 🧚‍♀️

Legend has it that it is bad luck if you do not say 'Hello Fairies' as you pass the bridge.

It might be more to do with the fact, if you are driving towards Castletown, you suddenly approach a sharp bend.

So keep your eyes open for the bend.

However I always found Fairy Bridge to be quirky because of the folklore attach to it.

Worth a five minute stop if you are passing but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. It took us a while to find it, as usual very poor signage on the IOM

Situated on main Douglas to Castletown road, this bridge is hard to spot, just a road sign giving it away.
The superstitious Manx people apparently always say hello to the fairies when crossing.
At the end of the day,its just a small stream passing under the road, nothing special to stop for,but many visitors leave charms and notes for the little folk
Parking is at your own risk.....fingers crossed!

The belief in fairies (or the little people) was strong in the Isle of Man. Oatmeal porridge or some bread was left out overnight for them to keep them happy along with a crock of fresh water. Upsetting them would result in bad luck... There is a whole folk lore about them.

The Fairy Bridge is a small white painted bridge on the A5 which crosses the Santon Burn. It is customary to say "Hello Fairies" as you cross the bridge to ensure good luck for the day. Those travelling by bus are reminded to do so by a recorded message.

There isn’t a lot to see here and the bridge is easily missed unless you are looking out for it. It’s just a bit of fun - but do remember to say hello... just in case!

Very amusing how the voice that calls out the net stop on the bus suggests saying "Hello Fairies" and then she does so her self. It was nice to see the old road sign for "Fairy Bridge" in the museum.

It is said that if travelling from Douglas you should say "Hello Fairies" and if travelling to Douglas then say "Goodbye Fairies" as you pass by. Not doing so will bring bad luck. There are no signs until you are almost on it and not much parking space, so keep your eyes peeled.

The live under the bridge but you can’t see them - they’re magical! I remember coming from Scotland every year and my grandad had booked a big black taxi to take us to Castletown.. and God forbid if you didn’t say goodnight to the fairies! My great grandad used to make coffins but only at night because the little people didn’t like them being built during the day! My grant, in the yellow cardigan, was on this postcard from the 60’s. All written on the back to me and I still have it... I’m 67 no but it’s a piece of my history.. x

Blink and you miss it. No sign posts until you are on the bridge! However after turning round and coming back it was very well worth spending a few minutes. Very sad place to remember people lost. Make the effort

It's a tricky place to review and it is a bridge essentially but Fairy Bridge is clearly a special and sentimental spot for many people.

The bridge is located close to Murray's Motorcycle Museum and if you visit there, you'll be given a little fairy to dip in the water at Fairy Bridge for good luck.

The bridge is on the main road going towards Castletown and has a small lay-by, enough for a few bikes / 2-3 cars. It does get busy at times so be careful with the traffic passing.

It's Manx tradition to visit the fairies for luck so always say hello to them as you pass.

The bridge itself is quite small and is adorned with artefacts and momentos, it's a touching place and visitors will see why.

Definitely a Manx heritage spot.
