I suppose this must have been a lovely spot at some time, but now it is so strewn with litter and trash and shrouded by the smoke from all the homes burning wood and coal, that it is just s vestige of what it used to be. Kashmir had been a bucket list place for me, but it is overtaken by tourists who don't give a thought to their surroundings. If you do go here, please ask the pony-wallahs to not constantly whip the horse while you are on it. The poor horse is doing the best it can and doesn't not need constant switching to take you about. I made that request of my pony-wallah that my horse not be beat while I was on it, and we got about just fine.

Betaab Valley, located in Pahalgam, is a picturesque destination in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Named after the Bollywood movie 'Betaab', which was shot here, the valley is renowned for its stunning natural beauty.

The Good about betab valley:

Scenic Beauty: The valley is exceptionally beautiful, with lush green meadows, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and dense forests. The Lidder River flowing through adds to its charm.
Ideal for Photography: It's a paradise for photographers looking to capture the essence of Kashmiri landscapes.
Perfect for Nature Lovers: If you enjoy tranquility and nature, Betaab Valley is the place to be. The calm and serene environment is refreshing.
Accessibility: It's easily accessible from Pahalgam and offers a smooth journey.

The Bad about betab valley:

Crowded During Peak Season: It can get quite crowded during the tourist season, which might detract from the peaceful experience.
Commercialization: Due to its popularity, the area has seen significant commercialization, which some might find detracts from its natural beauty.

Limited Activities: While the scenery is breathtaking, there aren't many activities beyond sightseeing and photography.
Basic Facilities: The facilities around the area are basic, which might not appeal to those looking for luxury experiences.
Tips and Recommendations:

Best Time to Visit: Visit during the late spring or early autumn for the best experience, as the weather is pleasant and the tourist rush is less.
Stay in Pahalgam: Consider staying in Pahalgam and make a day trip to Betaab Valley.
Explore Nearby Areas: Don’t forget to visit other nearby attractions like Aru Valley and Chandanwari.
Respect Nature: Always remember to respect the natural surroundings and avoid littering.
Local Cuisine: Try local Kashmiri cuisine at nearby eateries for an authentic experience.
Betaab Valley is a must-visit for those who appreciate natural beauty and want to experience the serene side of Kashmir. Just be prepared for basic amenities and potential crowds during peak times.

Not miss spot in Pahalgam
One thing in whole Kashmir I like is the fixed rate of taxi in Pahalgam. There is no bargaining, and you have to choose your type of vehicle according to price, but most of the time they say that lower-end vehicles are not available and you have to take SUVs, which cost you 3200/- for 3 spots (Betaab Valley, Chandanwari, and Aru Valley). Betaab Valley and Chandanwari are on the same route and worth seeing. But you may skip Aru Valley. It is on another route; there is nothing to see there. Here to mention that in Pahalgam, you can’t take your cab from Srinager to visit places in Pahalgam. You have to take local taxis, like in Sonamarg.
Betaab Valley is the first point of the above three spots. The driver will tell you that you have to spend a maximum of 1 hour on the spot; otherwise, he will charge you Rs. 400 per hour. So request that he drop you off near the entry gate and match the time of his watch with yours. Otherwise, even if you complete the tour and come back in time at the drop-off point, they say that you have spent more time at this spot or another. Do the same at every other spot, too.
The entry ticket to the valley is Rs. 100. After entering, there is a café selling 3–4 items along with tea. Don’t waste time here. If you have sufficient time, then you may stop here while returning. The garden is huge, with a stream flowing in the middle. There are plenty of reasons to take photos. After covering some distance, ponywalls will approach you to take a ride. Don’t go; there is a trap. If you go with them, they easily take a lot of time, and you can cross your 1-hour time slot and give extra money to your driver. Do visit on your own and enjoy the place. You can also take a view from the top on the way to Chandanwari. But for that, you have to request that your driver park beside the somewhat narrow road. Otherwise, just enjoy your cab.

Just a medium size fenced in park with a river running through, some willow trees planted along the banks, perhaps it would look much better with snow later on in the year, but to us it was nothing much, there are some vendors and you can get your photo taken with goats, the treks also did not appear promising. We only went there because it is close to Aru valley which is the real deal.

Betaab valley is situated is approximately 15 kms from Pahalgam. The original name of the valley is Hajan valley, after shooting of Betaab movie in 1983 the valley is now popularly known as Betaab Valley. Visitors have to buy ticket of Rs. 100/- to enter this valley which is surrounded by beautiful meadows and mountains. Lots of opportunities to click photographs with your family for memory.

This is a valley re named after a hit Bollywoid movie of the 1980s.
Less than 10 km from Pahalgam, it consists of a park(with an entry fee of Rs 100 per head) on the eastern(?) bank of the Lidde River. The rolling verdant green meadows beside the emerald gurgling waters nestled among the forested mountainside is a nature lover's
delight.
One can ramble along the riverside or towards the mountains on foot or on pony/horse back.
For the elderly, benches are sparse .Premises are well maintained and peppered with stalls selling local merchandise. One can also get photographed in traditional garb .Selected pictures are delivered in town ,near the famous Nathu eatery. On payment, you can use your camera alongside a pashmina goat or a rabbit.
Allowed time is 60 minutes with an additional charge of Rs 400 per hour for a further 2 hours and a full day cab fare if more time is taken. This is to deter crowds inside the park.On weekends tge place is chick a block of noidmsy tourists and as perour Cabbie, some customers don't even naked it to the entrance within the stipulated 60 minutes! In winter this place would be exceedingly beautiful, one could visualize.Only minus point is the exorbitant cab charges by a rigid taxi union .

Nicely maintained lush green lawns, wide and deep river stream through the garden, lines of trees to take a walk, photography session with Pashmina sheep or white pigeons on your shoulders give you enough reason not to miss visiting this place.

After seeing the tourist mayhem at Aru Valley, we were a bot sceptical about visiting Betaab valley. We eventually did, and it turned out to be a great decision!
There is a large park that has been tastefully created in the Betaab valley. There is an entrance fee of Rs 100/person and vehicles are not allowed. It appears that the entrance fee somehow brings out the the best behaviour in everyone. There is little or no litter, there are no boisterous groups creating a din.
With these distractions out of the way, once can relax in the lawns and enjoy the beauty and serenity that the valley has to offer. It really makes for a great experience.
Fully worth taking the trouble to get there!!
