The misty rain meant that the waterfall was in its best splendour. The sweeping views will hold you in a trance. The steaming noodles and tea from the corner shop and hours of just gazing at the beauty.

A spectacular view of this gigantic and overflowing waterfall makes it unique and crowd attracting. The sheer length of the water fall makes it look like a skyscraper.

Nohkalikai Falls is the tallest plunge waterfall in India. approx height of 1,115 ft
The waterfall is located in Sohra and can be visible from the parking. Approach road is good and water at the base green.
Overall all a must visit place

Lovely view of the waterfall from the viewpoint. The lagoon below is a beautiful green with clear water. Apparently you can also trek to the base of the waterfall, which would be lovely.
Surprisingly the water flow from the waterfall was quite strong; unlike the Seven Sisters (Nohsngithaing) Waterfall & the Wah Kaba Waterfall - both of which were tiny streams (I have stronger water pressure from my shower at home!)

During my visit to Nohkalikai Falls in Cherrapunji, I was left awe-inspired by the sheer magnificence of nature's creation.
As I stood at the edge of the cliff, a torrential cascade of water plummeted down from a height of over 1,100 feet, creating a mesmerizing sight. The crystal-clear water, tinted with shades of emerald, formed a pool at the base, surrounded by lush greenery.
The thunderous sound of the waterfall echoed through the valley, leaving me humbled by its power. It was a surreal experience.

Yes, its high and the surrounding scenery is pretty, but it was somewhat underwhelming for the number one tourist attraction for Cherapunjee. One can take a few pictures and selfies and check the box. Of course, if one were to combine that with a hike to the base, that is another story - unfortunately, not on our itinerary.

I visited Nohkalikai falls on a rainy day and due to lots of clouds floating around and low visibility I could not see the falls and just heard the sound of water falling. There are several shops selling souvenirs in the area and it has a entry charge but it should be avoided on cloudy days as falls are not visible at all.

Located 7 kms from Cherrapunji and takes about 20-30 min to reach there. There’s an entry ticket of ₹50 per person. The falls is visible from the view point. We visited in the month of march. There’s a board nearby saying way to base of waterfalls with stairs leading down. As we love to explore we took the stairs down but after some point there are no stairs. Its a jungle and there’s no proper pathway. We were three a couple and there was a guy who also was a tourist wanted to explore. After some point we were stuck in the middle of nowhere and we had come a long way down. We could here the waterfalls but we didn’t know how to reach. But we decided we wouldn’t leave without reaching down to the falls. Somehow after sometime we found a way and reached to the falls. The view was incredible and all the sweat and effort was worth it. The transparent blue water was something that I had never seen in India. We took lot of photos and rested for a while and started to climb back. It was really tiring because you have to climb through the rocks and never go alone or as a single couple because you might get stuck there and nobody can even hear you out .

We went to Nohkalikai on an early October morning, the jungles were still lush and there was sufficient water in the falls. The view is amazing with jungles all the way to the horizon and the roar of the waterfall echoing. There were also small food stalls and shops, though not many tourists. Could see a lot of long Cinnamon barks being dried in the sun. The place also has a nice signboard that describes Cherapunjee as 'one of the world's rainiest places.' A small stairway leads to the bottom but abruptly ends midway in the jungle below. Can go down below but it is advised to be careful as the stone stairs sometimes feel loose or broken.

How to reach the mouth of Nohkalikai falls from Shillong ? Does it have to be covered via Nongriat trek where the rainbow falls is ?
Skrevet 25. februar 2020
We did not attempt to go to the mouth of the fall. Viewed it from the other side of the fall where most visitors go.

I am visiting meghalaya on april 12 th with kids will there be water in waterfalls, which other waterfall is worth visiting in april,we r coming from bangalore
Skrevet 15. januar 2020
Well, water will be there but not very much at that time. There are some other waterfalls nearby viz. Seven Sisters Falls, Elephanta Falls etc. As rainfall in Cherrapunjee has been drastically down except during rainy season....chance of huge water volume is very less in mid April.

How much trek time required to reach here?
Skrevet 15. september 2019
You dont have to trek to watch the waterfall... You can see the beautiful falls just 3min walk from parking area
Skrevet 15. september 2019
Will we be able to go near the pool? How can we reach there? Is there a stay near by the plunge?
Skrevet 8. mai 2019
I found a stair towards down. I thought it will take me to the bottom. But the stair is finished after around 100 steps, which might be less than 20% of total height! And you will get the same view as like from top. So there is no meaning to go down these 100 steps!

Hi Guys ..could you let me know the approach to this place.I am planning to travel with my parents who are 60+ ,is there proper road approach for vehicles or walking is a must? Thanks
Skrevet 8. januar 2019
Yes, it's very much near to Sohra or Cherapunji. One can take Sumo on shared basis or your own vehicle, which can go straight to the point and anyone can just step up at pavement and see the fall.

I want to do noh-kalinai waterfalls trek. I want to go there directly from Guwahati and want to return on the same day. Is that possible? Pls suggest with approximate cost of the cab.
Skrevet 10. november 2018
You may have ample time to do other activities as well. It takes 4 hrs to reach from Guwahati, all very scenic and beautiful. Cost of the cab depends on your planning.
Skrevet 18. februar 2019
Has anyone visited here at sunrise? Timing is from 9:00, but is there any way to visit in early morning?
Skrevet 28. juli 2018
Well, when there is a time assigned, they may not allow anyone to come in before that, that is officially. From its location, I can tell you that it is perched inbetween the mountains and hence, may not offer an alternative route to reach either. Your best bet may be to connect with a local like a local guide or the hotel desk where you plan to stay and check if there are other spots, on the other side of the mountain - which can offer a great view of the sunset.
