We had a a great walk down today starting from Lanthwaite Wood car park (no toilets) - we went off the main path onto the one right by the river which is a great walk and then you come out at the lake which is simply stunning. The views from the lake are incredible and it was lovely and peaceful. Our dogs had a great time paddling about in the water.

We had lots of fun in the lake! Unfortunately it was a bit windy so paddle boarding was a bit tricky, but that is nothing against the Lake! It doesnt get too busy but there are people there often!

Literally stumbled across this lake on our way to Buttermere. Pulled up to take a photo and it’s just breath taking. The views really blew me away. A stunning lake.

Hiked the trail that runs from Lowestoft (Just by the Kirkstile Inn) over the top of Mellbreak and skirts around the edge of Crummock Water taking in Scale Force waterfall. Lovely and peaceful walk on a fine day. Would recommend this walk.

Such a beautiful and tranquil part of the world. We recently completed the 8 mile circulal walk around Crummock Water which starts in the village of Buttermere. Many parking places around some free for NT members, others payable but starting from £5 for the day.
The walk itself takes you past babbling brooks, up onto Rannerdale Knott, through rugged and unspoilt fields, moorland and even Lanthwaite woods. The views of Crummock Water and surrounding hills are beautiful. The water laps up to various shale beaches along the trail, which are lovely to stop and enjoy the view or a spot of lunch. There are various seating areas around the walk and benches.
This walk is much quieter than its adjacent walk around Buttermere. I think we saw about 10 people over the whole 3 and a half hours it took us to complete. But plenty of Herdie :)
I would say the walk is for people of good ability as there are a lot of uneven surfaces and tree roots to walk over. But well worth the effort, the views are spectacular.

What a peaceful and tranquil place. Soft waves lapping onto a tiny beach and surrounded by hills and the most stunning scenery. This was a perfect place to lay a memory stone for a dear lost friend.
There are no shops or cafes, but that just makes this place so peaceful. Waytoomuchtime has put a video on YouTube so go and take a look.

The largest of the three lakes in the area…Crummock, Buttermere and Loweswater but much quieter than the popular Buttermere.
To getbto the Lake, park in one of the car parks in Buttermere village and take the path towards the Buttermere lake but before you reach the lake, there is a path on the right which leads to Crummock.
The west side of the lake is dominated by Mellbreak fell and if you’re energetic enough to walk up the fell, there are magnificent views from the summit.
The road out of Buttermere village heading towards Lorton passes alongside the lake. There are one or two places to park but not in the passing places! There are plenty of photo opportunities with views across the Lake to the west, south and north.
The roads does become quite narrow in places and sheep can be an additional hazard!

We were camping at Syke Farm campsite which is in between Buttermere Lake and Crummock water.
When I first walked out onto the shore of Crummock water I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of it. It is STUNNING!!!!
So peaceful, green and lovely to relax at.
I visited a couple of times. First time for a solo walk and the second time with my partner where we went wild swimming - it was bliss!
Well worth a visit if in the area.

Bigger than Buttermere but less accessible although there are plenty of footpaths that snake around the lake. Although bigger Crummock Water is far more peaceful than Buttermere and those with no accessibility issues may well enjoy it more. If you can manage to park in the Rannerdale area there is a spectacular Bluebell display in spring and also makes for a nice walk into Buttermere.
