Having had no success booking a yurt in one of Ontario's Provincial Parks, I was thrilled to hear that the National Parks were making yurts available through the winter months.
These yurts are heated by an indoor wood stove. There is no electricity, but the park provides you with a battery-powered lantern - you will want to bring more lighting, as the yurt does get dark quickly. All cooking is to be done outside on the propane BBQ provided (there is also a gas element to boil water). Heated comfort stations are a short walk away and include clean showers, flushing toilets, drinking water and electrical outlets. Each yurt has a designated outlet with a locking safe, so you can plug your phone in and lock it (TIP: Wrap your electronics in a blanket, as the locked area is cold steel and you won't have much luck charging anything when it's -20). Each yurt is also provided with a bear-safe food storage area.
Upon arrival, each yurt is given a designated parking area. There is a three-minute walk from the parking lot where you will find sleds and wagons to bring your gear to your yurt.
When purchasing wood, we were given double the amount we paid for because it was wet. While walking away, the park employee mentioned they would be available until 5 in case we had troubles starting the fire. While I first took this as a sexist assumption, I am glad they mentioned it, because we had absolutely no luck starting the fire with the wood provided. After heading back to the Park office to ask for help, someone came to our rescue with a sled full of dry wood and was able to get a roaring fire going for us. Once the fire is going, the yurt stays very toasty. However, it's important to keep a good bed of coals, or you will wake up to a chilly (7 degree) yurt in the morning.
Bring some ice cleats and take the trail to the Grotto - a one-in-a-million experience seeing it in the winter!
This was a peaceful getaway for a few nights. Would definitely return and would strongly recommend to anyone itching to get outside.

This is a great area with a beautiful waterfront at the Grotto. It's just hard to get parking passes for this park and although it isn't the park's fault for that, it does make the experience of going a little harder. I do wish that the park also provided some lifeguards in the area of the Grotto. We watched as people jumped and dived off the cliffs surrounding the Grotto which I know you are not supposed to do, but as there is nobody monitoring the area, lots were doing anyways.

Me and my parents went hiking there, it is a national Park.
I’m not a big fan of hiking but it was such a nice view of the water especially the grotto.
Otherwise it was nice being in the bush hiking on hiking trail.
The grotto trail was pretty easy until you get up to the grotto, that’s really hard, except there’s a sitting area up there for looking at the water.
Otherwise there’s probably other nice trails in the park.
We also did the Marsh Trail it’s very nice and at the end of it there is a beach you can sit at.

Very well maintained and organised national park with a variety of well marked trails of all levels and lengths. Several opportunities to walk to the shore to sit or explore a local landmark. Can be muddy in parts but that’s the forest.

Seems staff or rules are a bit officious at the park. Campsites are a bit close together given the density of the vegetation not providing adequate privacy. Good access to trails.

We were not prepared (did not bring insect repelllant ) for biting flies along georgian bay in halfway log dump area and people said that there are snakes under the rocks?, We turned back right away and walk another 900 miles back to parking lot and left. We had flies bites where skin was exposed.
It was a waste of time and money of almost $70 for a group of ten people.
I was wondering that i did not read any reviews regarding these or maybe i missed reading it.

Traveled 9hrs to see the place, since it's an outdoor activity, I did not expect COVID to impact it in any way. But they limit the amount of people who can go in the park, which is hella dumb. Before coming, I did my research and saw NOWHERE it said you needed a reservation. Waste of time.

The parking for Halfway Log Dump is full for this weekend. Are there any other alternatives for me to visit this trail i.e. is there a shuttle from Tobermory?

Reservations for parking need to be made weeks, if not months in advance. There is an alternate parking area about 4 km south of the Cypress Lake parking area called Halfway Log Dump. It fills up fast so I’d recommend getting there early. This will take you to one of the boulder beaches the Bruce Peninsula is known for and will allow you to access the Bruce Trail
You can hike the Bruce Trail up to the grotto from HLD, however it is a difficult trail and will take at least 2 hours each way. I’d only recommend it if you’re in good physical shape as there’s a lot of climbing up & down hills & rocks.
My husband and I hiked to the grotto from HLD a couple of weeks ago. It took almost 3.5 hours to get to the grotto as we stopped along the way to enjoy the incredible scenery. On the way back to HLD, we made no stops an it took us just over 2 hours to return. There is no cell service along the trail so bring a map and plenty of water & snacks with you
Can we bring motor boats to tobermory

Is it there any other alternative options to park and visit Grotto? Or what else is available to do in Tobermory? I am planning on a short getaway and this was my option but parking is already full.
I’m quite sensitive on the washrooms when I go camping, how are the washroom facilites on Bruce peninsula national park?

The one closest to the grotto is a lot less smelly than a typical outhouse.

Hi!
I see on the national park website that there is a day fee for hiking and parking within the park -
Where can I buy this day permit?
I am not talking about the Grotto parking, I mean the general fee for the park - do I get it in the visitor center in Tobermory? Is there another place I can buy it south of Tobermory?
We are coming from Toronto and would like to stop for a hike before arriving at Tobermory.
Thanks!
