I visited the Grotto recently after just having hiked the northern trails by the Visitor Centre in the Bruce Peninsula National Park. This was during the tail end of Wave 3 of Covid 2021.

I was fortunate to not need a parking reservation for the Grotto/Lake Cypress lot, because I happened to arrive at an exceptionally quiet time. I was told this isn't normally the case, and a reservation is *almost always necessary*. I had incorrectly assumed parking was free, because we had no issues with parking at the northern end of park. Had I been turned away because of a reservation system I hadn't heard of prior, that would have been disappointing.

The Horse Lake Trail is super easy and has a boarded walkway for a lot of it. As you walk across the shoreline, the trail travels on rocks of various sizes, with nothing for your hands to hold onto. Bring proper footwear and tread carefully.

After passing the Grotto, you could opt to return using the Marr Lake Trail. If you do, bear in mind that this trail is very rocky and could be slippery in bad weather.

Both trails aren't very long at 1.5-2km one-way. They will get you to the Grotto and back soon enough, but still with effort.

As for the Grotto itself, it is as beautiful as they say, true to its photos, with impressive geological features and turquoise clear waters. However, I actually found myself wanting to -leave- the main Grotto areas more than anywhere else in the park. The hike up to the Grotto was quiet and mostly private, but the site itself is a different story,

Even at 7 PM on a Wednesday night, it was very crowded. It was impossible to take a photo of the vista or terrain without getting a shot of another person. Every corner you would climb and turn, you would run into someone else. Now people were polite, minding their business, but you couldn't help but feel like you were walking into their private space, or vice versa. There were picnic blankets and swimming wear out, as if people were staking territory. It felt a bit chaotic and borderline dangerous, as the site is unsupervised.

I could see this site better if it were sectioned off and monitored like a proper tourist area (think of something like an underground water cave site where people are grouped and allowed access in timed intervals, so not everyone is at the same spot at the same time). That may impede on the 'freedom' of the site, but on the other hand, it's also stressful having people doing whatever they want. It's clearly signed that the site is not monitored, and cliff jumping is dangerous, yet people still venture close to the edge. People may not jump on purpose, but it isn't impossible for a person to misstep and fall. There are no signs to indicate which spots are more dangerous than others. That being said, keep a close eye on your kids, pets, and family/friends that struggle with mobility or are inexperienced hikers.

The water at this time of year is super cold and not many folks were swimming. My partner and I stayed only a short while, then found a quiet spot in-between the Grotto and Marr Lake Trail overlooking Georgion Bay, where we could sit quietly and with privacy.

Overall: The least private spot in the Park, even in off-peak hours, don't expect to be alone. There are equally stunning and more tranquil spots all along the paths, I don't think the Grotto should be your only stop at this Park.

The day trip to the grotto and beach was a lot of fun. However, it's somewhat ridiculous that outdoor access to the Grotto was blocked due to social distancing, as it left only an extremely dangerous trek down the cliffs. Overall the experience was fun, but somewhat nervewracking.

It was a lovely hike to the Grotto. The hike is not wheelchair friendly. There were lots of people, the majority unmasked. But, as we were outdoors I did not feel uncomfortable. The views are lovely and highly recommend everyone to visit at least once.

So beautiful ! When you see it you gasp ! IT IS SO INCREDIBLY BREATHTAKING !! The 2 trails you can take to get there are nice and the black trail offers a nice scenic view. (Although it is mostly jumping and duking over and under trees.) The downside is all of the tourists ! It takes away from the amazing view because the little area was filled with atleast 100 people ! It was abbsolutely insane ! There was people eating, blasting music, cliff-jumping ! But other than that, amazing !

An absolute Must See if you're in Tobermory vicinity. The water is so clean and clear you can see the bottom. Deep at the edge of rocks. Wear water shoes in the water as the rocks are extremely slippery. You can jump off the rocks into the water. Time slots are booked ahead of time in 4 hour blocks, Bruce Peninsula National Park. It's approx. 1 km walk to Grotto from the parking area.

Access is by reservation only and they are for a 4 hour period of parking. Driving from Kincardine for a 9 am time slot required a very early start but it was worth it!

The scenery is breathtaking. The grotto was closed to swimming but the view from above is awesome. The natural bridge is an interesting geological feature. The area is high and rugged and I was surprised there are no safety features.

Swimming is allowed in the cove - the water is crystal clear and gorgeous shades of blue. Highly recommended!

This place is definitely worth the trip. The trails to the grotto are well- groomed and easy to walk. The grotto and surrounding area are beautiful but the crowds of visitors detract from the experience. This is probably best viewed out of peak season.
