Free, so visit!

A nice, quiet spot to wander around. Its free till you catch something or want to feed the salmon. The salmon weren't particularly interested in our offerings though.
Definitely recommend picking up some takeaway salmon.

Lunch was a feast! (Have a look at their photos on their website "Anatokisalmonco.nz")

As part of our tour with "Moa Tours" we stopped off here for lunch.
It became the highlight of our week!
What a spread we had and what environment with great staff service and smiles as well.
My wife and I shared a salmon plate with nick-knacks added and it was delicious.
Just a shame you are so far away from Auckland! Thank you very much.

Salmon Salmon Salmon

We visited the farm where if we wanted to we could try to catch a salmon and if lucky enough you could have it cold smoked within 10mins and eat it straight away, we elected to have a salmon platter for lunch, salmon done 5 ways, very yummy, worth the short drive to take a look and eat salmon.

Prepare for disappointment!!!
apr. 2021
Having been before, I have never seen this place looking so disorganised.

1st disappointment - part of the Anatoki experience is the ability to feed the eels, that idea was quickly extinguished as we were told they had sold out of eel food. (I guess no fish, no bait as they seem to not use the pellets anymore but salmon offcuts)

2nd disappointment - lack of fish in the catching ponds, granted I had read via the Anatoki website that it's not like shooting fish in a barrel at the moment but then to be told 90% of people are walking away without catching anything that quickly dulls the enthusiasm. I guess if you are transparent on this fact then all you have is a cafe and a look at a lot of pigs and turkeys.

3rd disappointment - You cannot wander along the river at the moment, there is a barricade up preventing this, unsure why as no signs advising the reasoning.

4th disappointment - the place is actually a mess, possibly a work in progress?

We had planned to have a good day out here, a bit of fun and lunch in the cafe but after all the disappointment we didn't really feel like staying.

Anatoki for lunch
apr. 2021 • Par
We stopped of at for lunch and although it was a little later in the day it was still Beverly busy. It is a small menu but all the salmon is so fresh and tasty. There were plenty of people trying their hand at fishing even though a notice stated it wasn’t such a good time for that activity. Plenty of people were also having salmon smoked for them so they could take it away.

Tired, unorganised and disappointing
apr. 2021 • Par
This place could be awesome, but it’s just strange. The whole place seems unorganised, a sign promises games and a Bush walk, which were no where to be found. A strange mineral museum looms at the end of a revolutingly smelly path blasting bizarre music. A few pigs wander around and a mini golf course sits, overgrown and uncared for. The salmon farm were awaiting a delivery(?) of salmon so there were none in the lake. If they cleared up the mini golf course, which I would totally love to use, organised the site and made it more interactive it would be an insane place to go, but at the moment it’s just flipping weird. Uncared for and unloved.

Delicious food, timed it wrong, so didn't get to catch our own salmon as they were in the process of a 4 week pond clean, but still a enjoyable visit

My son’s favorite place
jan. 2021 • Familie
We’ve been visiting the Anatoki salmon farm every year since 2015.( i can say i am a little bored of this place). But kids loving it.Not the youngest though. It was quite easy to catch a fish in January. My 11year old son just love the experience. The cafe was also good and the smoked fish the best meal.

Don’t expect to catch a fish.

It may have been our mistake but considering the upper-market look of the website we were very disappointed with what we saw. About 100 people standing around 1 rather large pond, with no guidance from staff- No explanation on how to fish. With barely any fish in the pond. Also it is a accident waiting to happen with all these people young and old casting into the water. Someone will get hooked. Well at least then you could say You caught something. We fished for about 4 hours and in this time no one else caught anything and the mood around the pond was very very negative and people were getting very frustrated, young and old. Considering this is a very decent drive (a 4 hour round trip from Nelson) more fish in the pond would have been appreciated. After about 2 hours a staff member did approach the pond and let people know they could get one out of the breeding tank to cook it- that’s not really the point. I would recommend putting more fish in the pond and at least doubling the price on kilo caught and therefore enticing more people with the guarantee of catching something. My partner and I drove here very willing to spend $150-$200 on catching our own salmon and having an experience and we left with spending nothing. We then went down to Takaka freshchoice and brough our own Salmon. For a business in the middle of nowhere you would thing they would want your money. One star for the drive.

Not our day for fish
jan. 2021
We first visited here about 10-years ago and we must say that we had a better experience then. That does not mean to say that our recent experience was bad, simply just not as good. Ten years ago, we were pulling in fish every 5-10 minutes (we were a group of 10). Yesterday, after over an hour and not so much as a nibble, we gave up. We also noticed a lot of other people giving up and walking away without fish. We did see some fish caught, but not many.

We ordered some lunch from the cafe (salmon pizza, chips, chicken nuggets & ciabatta $41 for 5 people) and despite the inexplicable wait-time, the food tasted good. The salmon pizza was especially good.
