A good looking beach, but pretty dangerous rips form here, so be careful if you decide to jump in. Worth a look, and some picturesque walks based from here.

A short drive from VH this magnificent stretch of beach is wild and windy, perfect for walking and fishing. The sand is clean and it is very photogenic. The day I was there I would suspect there are safer places to swim.

I never tire of a visit to Waitpinga, an Aboriginal name meaning home of the wind. It is different every time I go and no matter at what time of day, the beauty and fury of nature is always evident. Noted as both a good fishing beach and surfing beach but due to the strong undercurrents and rips is not recommended as a swimming beach. Might I be so bold to add that Waitpinga is a great location for photographers?
On this visit I decided to explore the beach from the car park that is west of the main park. The car park is smaller and provides access to the beach through the sand dunes. There are no facilities in this car park. At this point the beach is long and wide with an inland lake that teems with bird life. I believe the lake is on private property and should be respected as such.
It was pure relaxation walking along the sand taking the beautiful scenery, watching with eager anticipation as fishermen reeled in and shared in the frustration of no catch! And quietly celebrated with them when they landed a salmon. Searched the dunes looking for local flora and fauna. Despite some signage, saw no evidence of snakes – probably far too cold for them.
As Waitpinga Beach is part of the Newland Head Conservation Park, it is often patrolled and has a camping ground at the entrance to the park. Vehicle entry to this park is free, however fees apply for camping.
Return? Yes is definitely on the bucket list and want to once again capture the beauty of sunrise at Waitpinga.

Beautiful but have been told by locals it isn't very safe for swimming. A bit out of the way to get to.

This wild, untamed, magnificent coastal region, is within 11 km driving distance from Victor Harbor. This is a patrolled conservation park where one can enjoy bird watching e.g. migrating Terns on the shore; kangaroos just inland around the camping area. Fishermen do occasionally try their luck, but the surf is very dangerous and swimming is definitely not advised. Peaceful and quiet.

South of Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula is the popular surfing and fishing spot of Waitpinga Beach. As the beach faces the Southern Ocean, the winds can sometimes been really strong hence Waitpinga is an Aboriginal name meaning home of the wind.
The beauty of the location is well known and is worth the trip. It is accessible from Dennis Road from Waitpinga Road with the access bituminised which passes through Newland Head Conservation Park. Often you will see native Australian animals crossing the road!
The car park is of a reasonable size, but be assured that on a summer’s day or when fish, mainly salmon and mullet, are biting, the park can be full. Adjacent to the car park is the toilet block – of the “long drop” variety. Water is not available. Rubbish bins are provided to assist in the reduction of rubbish on the sand dunes and beach area in general.
The views from the walkway are stunning. Since the last time we were there the viewing platform and steps to the beach have been washed away during a storm. Access to the beach is now via adjacent sand-dune path from the walkway that crosses the dunes. The walkway gives time to look at the flora of the area growing on the dunes. The beach is flat and makes for a great casual wander, a picnic spot, a sit down to relax and read a book or just watch the water or the surfers.
Waitpinga is not a swimming beach due the massive currents, undertows and rips and is recommended only for experiences surfers. Fishing is from the beach.
There is no disability access to the beach. Also no pets are permitted in the park.
The famed Heysen Trail also passes through the area with the Waitpinga Campground available for those wanting a very early fishing start or just to enjoy the beautiful sunrises. Fees do apply for use of the campground.

As you come over the crest of a hill, the view is terrific. There is a boardwalk over a gully.
However, Parsons Beach is easily viewed from the car for wheelchair users or others.

Quite a lovely beach, but if you're unfit like me be prepared for the slog on the very soft sand, and I wouldn't recommend swimming there due the rips and currents.

Big rips were running when we visited today.
Very long beach with clean fawn coloured fine sand.
Quite picturesque with the waves rolling in and sand dunes behind.
We were lucky enough to see a seal chasing fish in the waves 😊.
Sealed road, parking and toilets.
Great for a long stroll.
Quiet today but guess it gets busy on the weekends and holidays.
Yup - worth a visit.

Waitpinga Beach is large beach with sand dunes and views with the ocean of course. Very relaxing place to stroll or just enjoy the scenery.

Planning to be in Encounter Bay area January 2020... noticed one January 2018 Waitpinga Beach review... wondered about use of Heysen Trail in and about Newland Head Conservation Park area during January. A bit confused because the Park appears to be open but the Trail appears to be closed. Then again I’m a New Yorker, easily confused where everything isn’t made of steel and glass... All help appreciated!

I visited waitpinga earlier this week and wondered what the hundreds of dark blue/ black jellyfish? we’re in the water. I’m not convinced that they were jelly fish as they had short tentacles and the swimmers didn’t seem to be alarmed by them, but was curious to know what they were ?
