Pristine islands with dense forests. May it stay that way. Unspoilt and protected. Not easy to reach, but that's OK

Raja Ampat Islands: Hidden Paradise in Indonesia
Raja Ampat Islands is a breathtaking tourist destination in Indonesia. I had the opportunity to visit these beautiful islands and my experience there was truly impressive.
The natural beauty of Raja Ampat Islands is truly awe-inspiring. From crystal-clear waters to lush tropical forests, every corner of these islands offers stunning views. The blue and pristine sea, teeming with biodiversity, makes Raja Ampat Islands a haven for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.
The islands of Raja Ampat present incredible beauty. Small islands with soft white sand, colorful waters, and dense greenery create captivating landscapes. Some well-known islands in the region include Wayag Island, Misool Island, and Salawati Island.
Besides offering stunning natural scenery, Raja Ampat Islands are also home to diverse marine life. Divers can discover spectacular coral reefs and various species of fish and marine creatures inhabiting these waters. Snorkeling in Raja Ampat Islands is an unforgettable experience, where you can witness the refreshing beauty of the underwater world.
In addition to its natural wonders, Raja Ampat Islands also offer rich cultural experiences. The indigenous Papuan tribes living on these islands have unique traditions and customs. You can interact with the locals, learn about their culture, and try delicious traditional food.
Although Raja Ampat Islands may seem remote, accessibility has been improving. There are direct flights from major cities in Indonesia to Sorong, the capital of West Papua Province, and from there, you can take a boat or ferry to reach the islands in Raja Ampat.
Overall, Raja Ampat Islands is an impressive and mesmerizing tourist destination. Its extraordinary natural beauty, rich culture, and friendly locals make the experience unforgettable. If you are seeking a place to relax, enjoy the beauty of nature, and embark on exciting adventures, Raja Ampat Islands is the answer.

Kri is a great place to stay as a base for lots of great dving. I made the mistake of booking a homestay on the southern side after reading on the raja ampat honestay accommodation platform that you can easily walk from southern to the northern side thru the jungle. How pleasant that sounded!
The reality is that to reach the plateau where there is a rough track you have to scramble up a steep muddy and slippery slope of about 25 metres and then at the other end you have to hold onto whatever trees and shrubs you can find to avoid sliding right down the exit slope. It is not safe and its reckless for homestay owners and others to misrepresent the state of the access from south to north.
One dive centre advises its okay to stay south because they can pick you up. However they cannot pick you up at low tide … well then says the homestay owner just walk around the headland at low tide .. now to the dive centre i am using thats around one kilometre distance …. If i have to be at the dive centre by 7.15 or 7.30 am which is normal then the walk would add on another 25 minutes.
Additionally if u wish to visit Mansuar you can easily visit from Northern Kri via a sand bar but not from southern Kri.
Sadly my conclusion is that its best not to stay on southern Kri.

Amazing diving sites and homestay in Raja Ampat!!!
The visibility could be 20~50m. So many corals and big fishes. Current is really strong but in some diving sites the current is medium just suit for fresher advanced divers. There are so many rare species such as pygmy sea horses and wobbegong sharks😇. The homestay host Alex is really reliable friend and the hostess is really expert for cooking. After the morning dive, we usually ask Alex
taking us to the nearby areas. Alex whatsapp: +62 812-4801-3034

This is a nightmare story of a vacation turn out to be scammed by a trip operator (IG/rajaampatbudgettrip)
We booked Raja Ampat Budget Trip through Instagram on December 2022 and did our due diligence by researching who they are (seems legit at the time). The owner, Leonardo Seran (Leo) offered us packages and we decided to go with their CAD $1700 4D3N trip includes trip to Wayag, Piaynemo, Kaliburu and Mayalibit with full onboard meals and 2 diving trips for two person. He sent us itinerary and we paid down-payment in January 2023 and he asked for advance final payment a month before the agreement in April 2023 so we did.
Then red flags start to appear when we got there. Schedule changes, homestay different from itinerary, lots of wasted time waiting at homestay doing nothing. They promised us snorkeling behind the island and suddenly no boat so they asked us to do it infront of the homestay instead. Then they took us to Wayag in the morning with a tiny fisherman boat (almost 4 hours trip one way) and then we're supposed to go to Piaynemo at noon but they made us wait to do nothing for hours until they bring us back to homestay and left us there.
On the next day which was our final day with them, they promised us to go to Piaynemo in the morning at 7 and diving boat supposed to come to pick us up for two diving sessions. We waited for two hours and they said change of plan: we go to Piaynemo with the fisherman boat and afterwards we will meet the diving boat there. At that point we're worried because we promised to meet another resort at 1 PM after we confirmed with Leo what time we can be dropped off at Waisai, that was in January. When we arrived in Piaynemo, there was no diving boat.
They took us to a lagoon near Piaynemo, where they said it's where the dive operator is. We don't see any diving boat there, no red strip logo as signage that it's a dive centre, but we met a "dive guide" with equipments. Another red flag, the "dive guide" didn't ask for our diving licence or any briefing, he just asked for our wet suit and fins sizes, etc. Then, we put on our wet suit while tanks were already loaded onto the same tiny fisherman boat we came with.
Suddenly trip operator told us diving is cancelled because the boat drivers don't wanna go. The meal they served was just tons of white rice, tiny bit of fried noodle and one piece of fried egg. That was for two days in a row and that's not right with the price we paid for since the other resort gave us full meal with multiple options including dessert.
They offered us refund for the diving fees which was $365 but we ask Leo the owner of Raja Ampat Budget Trip for a refund of $500 so we can booked our last minute dive with our next resort. Leo agreed for that amount and will refund us immediately, that was May 15. It's May 19 and he still haven't transferred the full refund we agreed for, even after multiple contacts. His excuse was no signal in Papua but he managed to upload multiple pics and videos on his Raja Ampat Budget Trip Instagram account (IG/rajaampatbudgettrip) one day earlier. We tried to call him but he didn't answer.
We kept the receipt of payment and itinerary but the conversations happened through WhatsApp. We did ask for email but he said signal is not too strong for email so use WhatsApp for everything. Unfortunately whatsapp didn't save the chat backup and we lost some part of it.

The Heaven or Paradise!! for Diver around the world, perhaps universe! Who wanna be here? I've been waiting for couple years to arrive here..
Dude, its budget cost more than a trip to europe though it's in Indonesia.
So..
Wanna safe your budget? do get there using public transportation. (Economy boat, avoid luxury phinisi, unless you could afford it, and of course I insist you to try phinisi, hahaha)
Wanna be a traveller? Stay more than a week!
Wanna be Tourister with a tight schedule? Contact your local guide before getting here.
Hidden paradise is attached into the heart of Raja Ampat.
My advice:
Please go snorkeling for 3 days or even more.
Dive as many as you can (Friwen wall the best ever)
Turn off your signal, don't miss out every second of your life with gadgets here.
It's here!
> Bird of Paradise, all wild birds
> Blue water River
> Hiking (pianemo, Waisai, etc.)
> Dive & snorkeling spot
> Friendly local welcoming you
Gratefull to be there and get along with people in Raja Ampat

For scuba diving, snorkeling, peaceful relaxing and hiking, you definitely find this place is amazing for a week or more. Some part of islands may not have good internet connection. You can take flight from Jakarta to Sorong and do live on board cruise with agents or stay at Raja Ampat Dive Lodge.

Hi!
I will be diving at Raja Ampat in December and I also want to bird watch in that area. Could you recommend reliable and good agencies that organise bird watching trips? Any tips on what are the must dos and reccos for guides will be much appreciated

Unfortunately , I am not familiar with bird watching activity, others may help you later.
I and my partner are travelling to alyui raja ampat Indonesia in March 2020. Do we need vaccination? We both live in Western Australia.
We will be staying with my Son who is the manager of Atlas Pearls on the island. We don't intend to do any trekking into the forests.

My husband and I didn’t have an vaccinations, but we are all up to date with what is required in Australia (we live in WA also). We made sure to cover up at dawn and dusk for mozzies, and used spray as well. We also slept with a mosquito net. You are going to a beautiful part of the world, enjoy!

We will be on a Wicked liveaboard from Dec 27- Jan 2. Any particular island / dive resort in Raja Ampat that you can recommend for diving after our liveaboard will be greatly appreciated. I tried contacting Arborek & they are fully booked. Thank you.

I went there also with a liveaboard Manta Mae, it was amazing, the ship and the crew. We were nights sailing and during the day diving or doing other activities. The best one for landscape was Waiag, also Mioskon and Pianemo. Arborek Island is nice, they have over there many european young volunteers for protecting the Mantas. I can tell you the spots I’ve dived reading from my log book: Mioskon, Yeben Chanel, Yeben Besar, Waiag Rocks, Mellissa and another place with many Mantas. The marine life is diverse, in Yeben Chanel were huge amounts of fish, many bumphead Parrotfish, in Mioskon I’ ve seen sharks, the worse dive was in Yeben Besar. The other spots I didnt write down.
Raja Ampar was great but the most amazing diving I ‘ve done in Palau, Micronesia.
I hope I’ve helped a little.

Is end of May/beginning of June a good time to go? My only concern is really choppy seas as my boyfriend gets really sick on boats if the sea is rough. Thank you! :)

we went in April. We did strike 1 storm where it was really rough, but ran from it, and were in sheltered waters after about 4 hours. There are so many islands, the boat can tuck behind to be out of the weather. Except for the storm, we didn't really have any rough seas.
