Arakurayama Sengen Park (新倉山浅間公園) is famous for its superb view with Mt. This park refers to the area that includes Arakura Fujisenjinja Shrine and is especially known for its cherry blossoms, five-storied pagodas and panoramic views of Mt.
Main highlights
1. Five-story pagoda (Chureito)
A symbolic presence in the park. The five-storied pagoda, which rises against the backdrop of Mt. Fuji, is a beautiful combination of cherry blossoms and autumn colors and is a photo spot visited by many people.
2. Cherry Blossoms
About 650 Someiyoshino cherry trees are planted in the park, and in spring, you can enjoy the cherry blossoms in full bloom, Mt. Fuji, and the spectacular scenery created by the five-storied pagoda. This landscape is known abroad as an iconic image of Japan.
3. Observation deck
The observation deck near the five-storied pagoda is a scenic point in the park. Not only can you see Mt. Fuji, but you can also see far away if the weather is fine.
4. 398 stone steps
The 398 steps that connect the shrine to the park are perfect for visiting and walking. The landscape changes with each climb, and the sense of achievement when climbing

The nearest free parking lot seems to be full by 9:00 on weekdays, and there were several private paid parking lots in front.
It was a shame that few people visited Arakura Sengen Shrine, which stands to the left as soon as we started climbing the crowded stone steps, but this may be due to the large number of foreigners coming. I was so relieved to hear the Kansai dialect (laughs).
There is an observation deck on top of the five-storied pagoda standing halfway up Arakura Mountain, but it was an area that stopped moving, probably because it was full of people and many people from countries with no culture to cede to, but here is "After you."Sometimes they noticed when I asked them, "What's the best place for you?" After all, communication is important.
I was going to hike to the top of the mountain, but I gave up because of the situation that no one was going to climb it and the "Kumaide hobo warning" notice. I didn't even bring a bear bell, as expected.
On the way back, we went down a winding, female-slope road instead of a crowded stone staircase, but a group of Chinese aunts were walking across the road, and I said, "Do you know Gmen '75?" It made me want to ask, "What is this?"

It's a great place to view Mt. Fuji but wait for a sunny day. Be ready for a short hike or climb 400 steps of stairs. A bit over crowded now.

The path through nature and the path that leads you to the temple is impressive. The elevation is mild and after ten minutes of walking among trees you can get close to the temple. If you're lucky and there's no clouds, you'll be able to see the top of Mount Fuji

Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine before breakfast : The main enshrined deity was Kobana Sakuyahime no Mikoto) and climbed 398 stone steps to see the Five-Story Monument for the War Dead and Mt. I felt like I needed a little more snow, but I was lucky just to see Mt. Fuji. It takes less than 10 minutes to get to the observatory.
When we arrived just before 7 o'clock, many foreigners stood on tripods. It seems that it suddenly became a very popular spot on social media after just appearing on the cover of a guidebook introducing Japan. I wonder what is fun about taking the same photos as people, but if you have Mt. Fuji, five-storied pagodas and autumn colors (cherry blossoms), it's like a symbol of Japan, so you'll want to take photos. In that sense, it is correct to come before sunrise.
During the day on Saturdays, Sundays and other days during the cherry blossom season, people sometimes wait in the parking lot for three hours. What's more, the observation deck seems to require a five-minute changeover. I don't even visit the shrine! I think you can show it to those who don't even thank the memorial. In other words, you only need to pay an admission fee and get five times more than the Japanese. It's also expensive to maintain.

The city attached to the park is very clearly adapted to tourists and no longer has the charm of a utopian visit.

Arakurayama Sengen Park was another stop on our trip around Mount Fuji. We walked up the steps in order to capture the iconic photo of Chureito Pagoda and Mount Fuji. It was an extremely hot and humid September day, but we made it to the viewing spot. Unfortunately, Mount Fuji was hidden by clouds, as it is most of the time. Crowds were not as bad as other reviews have mentioned. We were there on a Friday morning.

The five-storied pagoda is so beautiful!!
But until we get there,
Staircase 398 was pretty tough!
There are many tourists,
There were so many foreigners in particular!

The Views on a good day are fantastic and yes we had a day where the weather was perfect. But you need to be aware of a few issues. First that there are thousands of tourists the crowds are large, second there 398 concrete steps some very uneven and third if you are a female there is only 1 x toilet up near the temple so the wait is horrendous, so stay hydrated but not too hydrated! We enjoyed our time but the Japanese government has had four years to look into the tourist issues they identified pre-covid but it appears that nothing has been done.

Abbiamo in programma di andarci ad aprile 2024, ho visto che è possibile tramite bus o treno da Shinjuku e avremmo optato per il bus. È necessario prenotare prima i biglietti? Se sì, dove?? Grazie mille

Is there any spots nearby to park a bicycle? My friend and I will be riding there.

We are staying on Lake Ashi and would like to take a day trip to Arakurayama and hike to the shrine. Could someone comment as to what the best way to reach there from Lake Ashi is by Public transportation?
Skrevet 11. mars 2019
Hey there Melissa. I'm going to do my best to answer your question, assuming it's not too late by now. The best way (without your own car) is going to be by bus. I did this trip in the opposite direction so I'll write this as if I was going the way you are looking to go.
I had to take three (yep..) separate buses on this trip. The bus line I took started from Gora station in Hakone and ended at the Gotemba Premium Outlets. From there you would have to change to a bus that would take you to Gotemba Train Station. And from there you would need to get on a bus that would take you to Mt. Fuji Station in Fujiyoshida.
Once arriving at Mt. Fuji Station, the best way forward will be to take the train to Shimoyoshida Station. Then you can hike up to the park/Shrine/overlook area.
At the time I was using the Hakone Free Pass, so all these bus trips and train travel was "free", as part of purchasing the pass.

If heart problem person, is there any other option to reach to the shrine top?
Skrevet 18. januar 2019
There is a road that leads up to the pagoda but they are closed sometimes. I am unable to tell you the opening/closing times though.

What is the best way to get there in the early morning from hotel accommodation in Lake Kawaguchiko? Thanks!
Skrevet 12. januar 2019
You can catch a Fujikyu line train from Kawaguchiko station to Shimoyoshida station. Trains run approx every 20 mins or so. First trains around 5:15am!!!

What is the best way to get here from Hakone? Also, are their spots to lock up your luggage? We are traveling from Hakone to Tokyo and felt that this would be a good side trip along the way. Curious on everyone’s thoughts. Thank you!
