We stopped for lunch and a toilet break en route to the Lakes. The car park was very muddy where we parked and it was extremely busy. The shopping was a bonus! There are some nice clothes and nick-nacks, high end quality. I bought a Joules jacket that was reduced. There is a nice farm shop and restaurant too. The queue was too long for the restaurant so we did not wait.

The toilets are modern and clean.

We saw this farm shop advertised whilst on holiday and decided to go snd see what was available. The food looked amazing fresh and appetising. Probably spent more than we thought we would only because there were so many nice things to buy/try.
Loved the animals and dog walk. Such a nice touch.

Mainsgill never disappoints, the lunch menu isn't extensive, but it really is excellent quality, not bad value for money either.
Farmshop is excellent quality, as its name suggests, it sells food so doesn't allow dogs- seems fair enough to me.
The range of food is brilliant butchery pickles etc , bakery area (pies etc) are pricey but then you gets what you pays for.
Upstairs fancy goods and clothing area is about value added, as opposed to added value, but it is nicely arranged and has some interesting items.
Excellent stop over en route to or from Barnard Castle and any one who is any one goes there!
Go and enjoy an hour (or two)

Haven’t been here for a while, so happy to find that it is still a top class venue. Our main interest on this visit was the food hall and it really is superbly well stocked with a wide variety of interesting and good quality goods. The butcher’s section is particularly impressive with a wide range of top quality meat.

I have noticed a few negative comments re how busy the place gets, and there is no doubt that its success has resulted in a very large customer base. As everybody comes by car however, it’s easy to gauge how busy it is by looking at the car park, and if it’s chocka on the outside, it’s going to be the same inside.
Simples!

It’s great to give children the opportunity to see some rare animals and here you can get close enough to camels, ostriches, llamas and even sheep.
Plenty of car parking but the place gets very busy. Expect a long wait for food.
But enjoy the animals!

The irony of a farm shop that does not allow dogs. As a farmer’s daughter I feel you have lost your way in the pursuit of commercialism. Animals are at the heart of every farm

As regular users of Mainsgill facilities over many years we have witnessed its growth and how popular a place it has now become. They cannot seem to overcome the queues that develop for the restaurant which spoils a visit. On our most recent stop the queue discouraged us from having a seated meal so we bought a couple of filled rolls and takeaway coffees. We were astounded by the price of the rolls at £4.25p each which is ridiculous. As we sat and eat them we overhead a conversation between other people who were doing the same and they were making similar comments. Not impressed I’m afraid.

Beautiful setting and love the animals. Zed the llama particularly liked my husband and came over for pets and licks! The spotty sheep loved him too, enjoying pets. Really unusual to see camels and an ostrich in the farm too! Great afternoon out!

The children loved to see the camels, emus, llamas as well as traditional animals here. Also visited the massive shop which had lots of local produce in. The food in the cafe was good but the queue was long.
