The crater itself is impressive and we enjoyed taking photos and learning about its history. However, the experience was dampened by frankly irritating salesmen swarming us at every turn asking us to buy their goods. They would literally follow us down every path and if you stopped for even a moment, 3-4 of them would descend on you like vultures. One even followed us for 15-20 minutes before we had to tell him numerous times we did not want his services.
By far the worst part of this experience was the hot spring tour. We paid an up front fee at the OFFICIAL service desk for a local tour guide named Dedi to take us down. We were flanked by 2 other men who wanted us to buy their goods. They initially started off very friendly and informative.
Once we ended up at the hot spring, some locals began giving us a clay massage which we were initially told by Dedi was part of the tour price initially paid.
In the middle of the massage (which lasted 5 minutes), the locals began demanding ridiculous prices upwards of 300k IDR ($15-20 per person!) We were horrified by this and asked them to stop as we did not even consent in the first place. They insisted that we could do a bank transfer or we could be guided to a local ATM to withdraw the money. Once we told them we would not be coerced into giving extra money, Dedi and the other guides became cold and guided us back to our car without another word. They were clearly in on this money making scheme and were disappointed we would not be pressured into being scammed.
The hot spring itself was an interesting experience and the water felt nice, however the experience was soured by the greed of the locals. We understand they need to make money but we did not appreciate being preyed on in such a manner as a family. If the price was told up front, we would be more than happy to oblige and would even give a tip, however the lack of transparency and being treated like a dollar sign was not a good experience.

Would give 2 out of 5, considering my preference is to be left in peace (annoyed / overwhelmed by at least 3 local tour-guides salesmen following me throughout the whole visit). It is understood that selling overpriced souvenirs is how they make living. But let me emphasize on that word - overpriced. Same ones can be found 10x cheaper elsewhere.
The place on its own is a 3 out of 5 stars... there is no opportunity to explore around the crater due to the destruction from the last eruption in 2019(?). At its current state, considering the drive / distance from Bandung, it's a no for me.

The view was astonish!to be on an active volcano make the trip worth it. BUT here come the negative part of it.
1.Entrance fee for foreigner is WAY WAY high at 200k (weekday) and 300k (weekend). Local pay at only 20k/30k. The authority need to do something to make the fee more friendly.
2.We were basically outnumbered by the street seller and photographer. You will have the sense that you will be "harass" by them. They dont easily take no for an answer.
3.The key chain they sell is expensive compare to the same you can get at the city. What spoil the experience is they will offer you in the currency of where you are from.Somewhat i feel we were profiled the moment we exited from our transport. Not a good experience.
Well the view and the location is all that make experience worth. I wonder whether the authority will step in to control the street seller and photographer.witness a group of tourist were swarmed by them and they pestered him to buy when he decided to buy 1 souvenier from the 1st person.

Affordable prices (200,000 RP for tourist during the week, otherwise 300,000 RP). You can go up to the top by vehicle; It is therefore advisable to arrive early (mid-morning). Lots of street vendors and tourist shops. It is not a destination for long-distance hikers.
What's a shame is the little trash lying around everywhere. It’s a good day out if you’re staying in Bandung.

The view and weather was good, probably a one time visit for newbies.
Rp300, 000 entrance fee for foreigners is rather excessive.

Beautiful crater, busy with commercial activities around it, but fortunately if you are on the edge of the volcano you are not bothered by it much, so don't let that stop you from going there.

Mount Tangkuban Parahu was formed around 125,000 years ago in the Sunda Caldera. This mountain, according to T. Bachtiar and Dewi Syafriani in the book Bandung Purba, is younger than Mount Burangrang. Mount Burangrang, which is located on the west side of Mount Tangkuban Parahu, was formed around 210,000 to 105,000 years ago. According to T. Bachtiar, Mount Tangkuban Parahu was born after the formation of the Lembang Fault. When Mount Tangkuban Parahu erupted, some of the material flowing south was stuck at the foot of the fault.

A beautiful mountain with stunning view. The ticket is expensive for foreigners. But if you hike with other tracks you can get free ticket and remote hiking route.

Hi, I'm a bit confused, may I know Kawah Putih, Crater Lake & Tankuban Perahu - these three places are the same locations?
Renggains Crater Hot Spring as well which can't find on goggle map?
Thanks.
Skrevet 20. mars 2018
Tangkuban and Kawah Putih are in opposite directions from Bandung city and both require 2-3 hours' drive.
Skrevet 20. mars 2018
HI i have read mixed reviews for the traffic conditions. Majority suggested to visit during weekdays to avoid jam.
I have planned to visit during weekday at the end of January, can anyone who visited during week day share with me the traffic condition? How many travelling hours should i spare to reach and leave Tangkuban Perahu?
I would only visit the main crater - Kawah Ratu as elderly with me is not able to hike to other craters. I do plan to visit Floating market Lembang on the same day.
Thanks!!

On weekdays to reach tangkuban perahu about 1 hour from down town, i suggest you to stay at grand guci hotel, they could arrange your trip, and the hotel also clean and cheap, near to railway station and near to malls and culinary street in bandung
Skrevet 6. januar 2018
Hey Guys ... I don’t have much time in Lembang so how much is the ticket there for tourists, how much time to spend in the volcano and is it worth it or not ?
Thank You
Skrevet 4. januar 2018
Tickets for foreigner is IDR.300K. 2hrs will be sufficient to explore the mountain top where the crater is.
Skrevet 4. januar 2018
No age limit, but remember they will charge you Rip-Off amounts for every head that is allowed past the gates! They even charge for the local Taxi and in some cases for the local driver (which they did in another park)! It really puts one off!
Skrevet 27. november 2017
Someone mentioned taking an Uber here. Need to check if that ispossible? Can you get Uber at out of way places like this when you want to return to the city?
Skrevet 19. november 2017
Hi , actually after seeing the Rip-Off quotes from all Taxi drivers, we simply downloaded the 'Grab' App (similar to Uber, but more popular in Indonesia) and got a Taxi to drop us to Tangkuban Perahu for about IDR 27,000 (which was a far cry from the 100,000 to 200,000 that every else was quoting). As expected the driver did not want to wait. So we let him go. Then on the way back (while people started to give us offers of 500K down to 200K, we just started to walk down to the entrance (which is some 2-3 kn down). Very shortly - after some 200 or 300 meters, one rickety old private taxi stopped and offered to drop us to another nearby place we wanted to go to (a sulphur spring). From there on the way back we simply hopped into the Mini-buses which took us back to Bandung for a total of IDR 20,000 only per head (one change in between - so it was 8K + 12K for each of these minibuses). It was also a good experience of how the locals travel. So there are ways of getting around these things if you so decide! Read my 2 cents on the trip to Tangkuban Perahu which is named 'Overrated and Overpriced Volcano' on Trip Advisor (I was quite fed-up at the end of it -so you may please ignore some very irate comments there)

Is there any hotel nearer to Tangkuban Perahu or any hotel in the mountains
Skrevet 16. august 2017
Unfortunately, There's no hotel near Tangkuban Perahu. You can find a hotel in Bandung, because Tangkuban Perahu is not in central of Bandung city. as my experience. Thanks.
Just for tips : Use private car to easy go here.
