At the outset, unsettling a few myths. The waterfalls are not available for viewing from round the clock as posted on tripadvisor. The visitors area is monitored by the government. The viewing is allowed from 9 am to 5 pm. Only. Then gates are closed.
We must buy tickets for entry which are Rs 50 per person and 30 bucks for car park on the road. They have provided no facilities from the tourism department but collection is growing.
It is a must to visit and view the athirapilly waterfalls viewing point from the base of the falls. It's an aredeous task but a lovely trek for the fit and able . Heart patients a complete no no.dont attempt. It's a climb down and up of almost 8 to 10 floors. The path is stone cobbled and not very easy. The government though in charge of god's own country has a broken path to offer
The falls are beautiful and breathtaking . I was awestruck and amazed. A beautiful sight to behold.
Please wear raincoats or Carry umbrellas. Do not take food or eat icecream, the monkeys will definitely come to grab their share
Enjoy your holiday .

Started early at 7am from Coimbatore by car...Great roads with great greenery once you enter kerala...Nice mountain views on the complete way...The road from Thrissur to Waterfalls is damn good...with tons of greenery and dense trees covering the road from top...sometimes you need to switch on your car lights...
Waterfall is mesmerizing from top and then from the bottom as well...
You need to climb down the Rocky pathway to go down for a view of the fall...CAUTION for old people, childrens and ladies...down pathway is Rocky and seems to longer and there is nothing to rest in between...pls be careful of slipping...
Lot of shops and eating joints are available. However, cars 🚗 need to be parked on one side of road, if lucky you can get the space near to the fall else, you need to walk 🚶♂️ a lot..Overall great experience...one day trip is enough..
Thanks

Athirappilly Waterfalls is nice fall but tough to reach, The steps are made to reach to the waterfall but road are not smooth. It is around 2 kms track but bit hard and not for the people who are fat or anyone with health issues. It is very difficult to reach to the top but the view is so mesmerizing that you will forget all the pain to reach here.

Was a good experience, must see place.
Water flow was not high but good to visit.
Mostly monsoon season is the correct time to visit this place.
1 hr bus journey from Chalukudy bus station. Bus frequency 30 mins.

We visited this place on 13 December 2023. This is the waterfall where Bahubali movie scenes were shot and it really deserves that. A mesmerizing beauty lies here. The sprinkles of waterfall, the cool breeze, the khalkhal sound of river and the nature of forest area all are captured in my mind and will remain there for long. Surprisingly the place is not in the bucket list of kerala tour operators, hence very less outside tourists visit here.
Key points:
1. Its a 100+ meter waterfall.
2. Entry tkt, adult-50, kids-10
3. Nearby stay options- many hotels and homestay in cheap rates available within 1 km range.
4. Difficulty level- upper side of waterfall is easily connected with good concrete pathway, vehicle also allowed till here. Downside of waterfall needs walking for at least 10 minutes and path is stone built and little difficult for kids and seniors. But downside is the real beauty to enjoy.
5. Safety- Completely safe, guards are always available.
6. How to reach- 50 kms from Kochi Airport. Well connected road.
7. Food, juice and gift shopping available outside entry.
8. Restrictions- Entry into waterfall river is not allowed.

Nice fall but tough to reach, local authorities made steps and road but not smooth. Around two kilometres track but bit hard and not for the people who are fat or old or have any health issues. Still if anyone likes to walk than take time and go easy. Few places quite slippery so always wear shoes. You cannot even touch water as that is punishable offence. Views are very nice.

We visited the place in December so the water level was low. Could imagine how gigantic the fall would be in the rainy season.
The place was crowded with a mixed crowd of tourists and locals. You need to buy tickets before you enter the area. Free for the driver if he/she doesn't come inside with you to the fall.
We visited the second post towards Tamilnadu first and then came back to the actual waterfall. At the second Post, there are a few scenic views and good safety railing in place by the forest department.
Towards the main waterfall, you need to walk around 2 km straight from the entry gate. At the end post, you can buy water bottles, etc. You can carry your bottles but you need to pay a refundable 10 rs so keep the change with you. At the main waterfall, there are 2 main parts/zones. One at the upper part of the waterfall. It is a bit rough terrain but elderlies can go with little help. You can sit alongside the river and enjoy the flat surface. You need to walk further to go in the water. We avoided that and moved to 2nd step of the waterfall.
You need to be fit enough to walk 3 kilometres further down to reach the bottom and back but the view is worth it. I won't advise this particular trek to elderlies but have seen a few fit caucasian oldies on the trek. The last entry to the bottom trek is 5 pm so make sure you reach before that. You need to walk over boulders to go near to main water stream.
At the exit gate, once you pass security, there is a small shop run by the forest department. You can buy good honey, some bamboo souvenirs, etc.
At the last, It's good to visit a kind of place if you have time otherwise you can skip in case of a short trip.

Hi,Im planning to visit Athirapilly falls mid of April 2019 with family and kids.
I would like to know the current situation of water flowing at Athirapilly falls..
Can elder people and kids can reach lower down base area of falls water flow..is there any possibility to reach base area by car???
Skrevet 25. mars 2019
April is not ideal time to visit. Base is not accessible by car
Skrevet 26. mars 2019
Would the falls be open to trek down to the base around 1st week of October?
Is it safe with an infant?
How many hours should we keep for the falls?
Skrevet 12. august 2018
There has been severe damage to the entire region around the falls because of the recent heavy rains and floods and quite possibly the trekking path is lost. As of now the area is cordoned off and visitors are not allowed anywhere near the falls. It would be best to check just before the trip to see if the situation has improved though I am not sure it would be open by 1st week of Oct.
In the normal course there is a reasonably navigable, though steep, footpath down to the base of the falls and you could carry your child down with you -- not pram-friendly. It is a normally safe area. You should allow three to four hours to go down, see the falls and come back.
Please check on the status once again before your travel date.
Enjoy your travel.

Is there any restriction to visit Athirappally due to rain
Skrevet 25. juli 2018
Currently In Southern India they are experiencing the full force of the Monsoon season, and it's close to the heaviest falls they have ever had. Kerala, Ernakulam and many surrounding areas are inundated. Some 31,000 people have been displaced, and are taking shelter. Despite the falls being 60 out of Kerala, there are many low laying areas on the way, and I imagine these would be in flood also.

Thirussur To Athirapally Falls Bike Riding Allowed Or Not?
Skrevet 12. april 2018
I note the enquiry was 4 months ago. The season for visiting is between September and January and in this period bathing would be fine. There may be some restriction at the base of the falls as there are some safety issues. The rocks can be very slippery entering the water.
