The first thing to note is that the university is not open to tourists. Only students are allowed inside. So the guides show various buildings and monuments from the road. But definitely visit Rabindra bhavan Museum to get an idea about Rabindranath Tagor's life and work.
It is very motivating to know Tagor's achievements inspite of the difficult times in his life.
We travelled to Santiniketan from Kolkata by train & hired a local guide in Santiniketan. That saves money and time.

I visited during Covid times, so much of the university grounds was closed to visitors. However the canteen was open and so was certain sections that I managed to get photos of. It’s just beautiful. It has this vibe. I can’t wait to go back

In the lap of nature, it is unique in its nature. The frescoes on the walls of various departments in the Ashram area are worth visiting. The glass temple, the chhatimtala, the amra kunja, the bakul bithi and the kala bhavan Sangit bhavan area have an old world charm where the inmates lived in perfect harmony with nature, self, and the artistic surrounding.

We visited Shantiniketan Visva Bharati University for 2 days - and it was an amazing experience. There is no closed campus as such, and the serene pollution free environment really added to the whole appeal. There are vehicles roaming around and the e-rickshaw's called Toto's and also motorbikes.
The university area is about 15 mins from Bolpur station and it starts from the Post Office onwards, and there is a triangular park that bifurcates the road to the university and the Mandir, Ashram and Rabindra museum & the other side goes thru the Shantiniketan area to Prantik side. We also saw the open air classrooms, the graduation stage and other grounds.
We went to the Mandir at night and it was a very nice sight to view with the lights and the colored windows. It was a wonderful sight and the Mandir is open on Wednesdays in the daytime.
Overall the museum holds the artifacts and the replica of the Nobel Prize of Dr. Rabindranath Tagore.

Been here about three years back. The university campus is beautiful and peaceful. On normal days vehicles are not restricted to move in around the main arterial Road through the campus, but on the occasion of poush mela the authorities restricted traffic to the outskirts of the campus, which was really good as the walk felt great and serene. There are many buildings on both sides of the road each having its own name. Together they comprise this beautiful university campus.

It has a peaceful environment and a sprawling campus. Bad luck was that we were not allowed into the art campus. But ambience great.

Visit to Shantiniketan was on my bucket list since years.
Few tips for the first time visitors like me
1. Though train takes less time to reach, it's not punctual and was late for half an hour to reach and about an hour late while coming back on same day. So plan accordingly.
2. For AC chair, book prior otherwise u will get the ticket for general coach. While going to bolpur is not a problem because the coaches are empty but while coming back it's packed.
3. Decide a fixed amount with auto rickshaws for to and fro journey with amarkutir and any other place if you want to visit.
4. The official guide asked us ₹300/- but gave receipt of ₹400/- (an extra charge for showing Bangladesh museum) but also added it's totally our will whether to pay extra money. And we paid extra.
5. Though the guide has a very little role, without him it would be difficult to explore with a limited time slot.
6. Amar kutir is a must visit place for the people from other states like us. And also it's quite far (around 20-30min) from Viswa bharati compound.

A lovely campus dotted with historic buildings. Cool and shady under the cover of the innumerable trees on the campus with its open classrooms for its students. The museum should not be missed. It documents the family tree if the Tagore family and then you realise that there were people greater than Rabindranath in that family... Starting from his grandfather and later his father... Who was the actual founder of Santiniketan. The Gitanjali wing is simple but beautifully done. If you are lucky you could hear groups of people singing songs composed by the bard set to tunes composed by him... Rabindra Sangeet...the five houses he stayed in over his time in Santiniketan have been preserved with love. The primary school in his wife's name, tge Mrinalini Ananda Pathshala .... Still teaches students. A wonderful place to spend a day.

The campus speaks of it's past magnificence. It must have been created with great care and fortitude. The buildings, especially the five houses where Tagore lived from time to time, the Tagore museum where the Nobel Prize is housed and the Upasana Griha are very beautiful. Loved the variety of flora and fauna I found on campus. But alas, a large part of the campus has not been maintained well and does not keep up with our modern times. I do think that it's still the best for learning Tagore style art, music, dance, architecture, and writing, at higher level. I wasn't impressed with their school level education system. As for the campus, it's shabbily maintained, with hardly any sign boards for direction. One can easily get lost. Some more order and planning required to run the campus. The libraries should be upgraded and digitized.
