Stunning gardens, they are really beautiful, with a lake and river leading to a waterfall. Lots of wildlife. Looks over towards Kew Gardens.

We visited on a Sunday when there was no formal guided tour but the staff in the rooms were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and approachable.
Our elderly parents enjoyed the visit immensely and were full of praise for the time given by the staff to discuss the history of the house.
Also, the restaurant food and staff were fantastic.

Aton House and Park is. An amazing building and grounds and parts of it go back over 700 years ago. Near to Kew Gardens. Worth a look.

I had a very enjoyable to this lovely stately home and gardens. It’s the lavish stately home of the Duke of Northumberland. Syon House was built in the 1500s, on the site of a medieval monastery which occupied the site until 1431. The exterior of the house is Tudor, but the interiors are later; they were done by Robert Adams in the 1760s, after being commissioned by the 1st Duke of Northumberland, and are regarded by many as Adam’s finest interiors. Robert Adams was one of the country’s most important and influential designers of the 18th century, working in a neoclassical style.
I visited the house by a guided tour, which are available on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Self-guided tours are available on Sundays and Bank Holidays. These are the only days the house is open. The tour was excellent, and I fully recommend you take this option. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, and she presented lots of interesting facts and snippets of information in a a lively and jovial manner. The tour lasted almost two hours. We saw many spectacular rooms. The interiors are opulent and sumptuous to say the least, and it is one of the most beautiful stately homes I have visited (and I have visited many). It was quite the visual treat, and I enjoyed and appreciated the tour very much. The tour cost £12 (senior concession), and has to be booked in advance.
I arrived well before the appointed tour time, so I could spend some time in the Great Conservatory and the gardens. T he 3rd Duke of Northumberland built the spectacular Great Conservatory in the 1820s and is thought to be the earliest of its kind in the country. Whilst I found the grand wrought iron and glass structure to be extremely pleasing, the plantings in the conservatory weren’t particularly enthralling, as the place seemed to be between plantings. The gardens behind the conservatory are Grade 1 listed, and were landscaped by Capability Brown. The gardens include a collection of rare trees and plants, a rose garden, and a circular lakeside walk. They were very pleasant.
The house and gardens (collectively known as Soon Park) are located in Brentford, opposite Kew Gardens on the other side of the River Thames. I used public transport to get to Soon Park, taking the train to Soon Lane station, which has direct trains from London Waterloo station. The walk to Soon Park from the station is about a mile, and it took me about 25 minutes to walk at a leisurely pace. There’s a cafe on site, and toilet facilities. There are 8 steps at the front of the house to enter the Great Hall where the tour starts, so those using mobility assistance should explore their options for visiting.
It is a beautiful site to visit and I recommend it fully.

Based on the superb reviews we decided to spend one night here before the kids went back to school . What a mistake that was. Yes the hotel and the surroundings were stunning but that’s where it stops. Checking in was easy and simple , however despite us asking for confirmation that there would be three beds in the adjoining room, there’s wasn’t. However a quick phone call and a fold out bed was supplied. For the evening meal we decided to go for the al la carte restaurant, having driven for most of the day we fancied some decent food . No. Worst service ever. Despite asking repeatedly for the dish we wanted the waitress couldn’t understand a word of what we were asking for . Despite pointing to the menu she was baffled. After a while she nodded and off to the kitchen she went .
And came back back with with worlds worst burnt steak despite us all making it clear all steaks were to be rare medium. To make matters worse she then stood at the end of table wondering if we would notice.we did notice just by the way it looked. It was obvious they had been burnt . Then she decided to tell us the chef had messed up. And still stood there. Back went the steaks . Then comes the tab for drinks . We have one , no we don’t. Yes we , no we don’t. Buy this time we were exhausted and ready to settle up the “tab” to find out we hadn’t been charged for some items .just a pure mess and not the break we expected . Luckily reception were brilliant in the morning. Breakfast was great, staff couldn’t bring you enough coffee and the buffet and service was delicious. However we won’t be returning. Not a chance . Even for the stunning views .

Disappointing visit today. Obviously as the weather has been so hot and dry we expected the grass areas to be brown and dry but the gardens generally looked overgrown and un-tended. For example, there was brambles growing over the paths and it all looked a little neglected. The house was closed for a wedding and another wedding was being set up in the conservatory. Poor value for money.

My issue is security. Car broken into. Valuables stolen. Syon house obviously couldn’t care less. Absence of cctv signage, security.

Loved the walk round the lake, did not tour the house. Hot July day, but plenty of quiet nooks under the trees to relax in. Beautiful conservatory.

I've scored Syon Park one star owing to the fact that they are exceptionally inconsiderate business letting fireworks off at 2am on a weekday.

Does the house have a Trail or activity that would keep a three year old amused!

This venue is not really child friendly. It is a lovely manor house, but there is nothing to keep a three year old entertained. There is a garden and fountains on the property, but most of the tour is through the house.

Is it possible to walk through Syon Park at the moment and also to park a car there? Thanks

Jane,
There is plenty of parking available at the garden centre, which is adjacent to Syon House. It is possible to walk parts of the park, but have to be honest and say it is are not that large or interesting (more farmland than park). So if your visit is merely to view the park, and not the house or garden centre, then might I suggest the nearby Richmond Park, which is much bigger, has lots of free parking, and offers more to see such as Pembroke Lodge, Isabella Plantation, Pen Ponds etc (Sat Nav TW10 5HX), and beautiful views over the River Thames near the Richmond Gate (a short walk from the Pembroke Lodge car park).
what are the opening hours/days for the butterfly museum?

The Butterfly Museum closed down some years ago, I'm afraid.
