A little of the track but very interesting. Not far to walk down a dirt track from the parking lot. Historic old brick works with amazing rural views. If you’re near Glen Innes I recommend the drive to Emmaville then drive here.
Careful. Turn left before the cattle grid just after the sign.

Sadly getting a bit overgrown and could do with some TLC, but is still well worth a visit if you are interested in mining and processing history. Lots to see and a lovely region to visit. Don't miss the Emmaville Gem Museum when in the area.

The Ottery Artsenic Mine is on the way to Emmaville from Torrington. It's just 50m off the main road and about 100m walk to get to the entrance.
Lots of old mining equipment with story boards if you're interested in the history. it's a bit run-down but everything is fenced off so not too dangerous.
We only walked a short way in but i think you can go further. I did see some story boards further in the bush but the track was a bit hard for my mother.
I wouldn't go out of the way to see this but definitely stop if you go past (big sign you can't miss).

Good little place to read up on the history of arsenic and see the old mine works and kilns, the place could do with some maintenance from the council

Only a short walk from the car park and you are at the old arsenic mine. Amazing that after some many decades there is still chemical leaching out of the bricks of the mine. Just a reminder of the terrible things we do to our planet.

Have been here a couple of times and it's well worth the detour. These old sites are always fascinating and give an insight into the hard work done by pioneers in times gone by.

Watch for the signs, we didn't and ended up in Torrington!! However, our return trip we found the entrance and headed in for a looksy. Being avid photographers we had a ball. A lot of history just sitting around. Be careful not to wander off from the area, we managed to get carried away and ended up further away than allowed as there was no major signs and barriers towards the bottom of it. However, if you take a walk from the carpark to the top of the hill where there is a big old stack, that could prove interesting too.

We were told about this mine by the people at the Emmaville Mining Museum. They gave us good directions and it was easy to find. The site itself is off the road and you have to walk a short distance to the works themselves. The walk is a bit rough but well worth it as the old workings are great, In ruins, yes, but you can still appreciate the work that went into actually building the huge chimney gallery up the hill etc. Working here must have been hell, dealing with toxic fumes, arsenic etc.

We visited this site after reading about it in the Emmaville Mining Museum. You need to walk down to it and there is an information board there. How difficult it would have been to work in this place.
