Overall, after it was all said and done, we had an amazing experience. But the lead-up to it was pretty stressful and confusing. We only participated in the activity--we didn't stay at the Turistation hotel, so we only had the information we received via email and on the confirmation to go on. There needs to be better instructions on how to get to the Turistation and what to expect on the tour. We thought the only way to get from Abisko Mountain Lodge to the Turistation was to take a taxi, but we learned later that there were other options. Our taxi fell through so we had to WALK-45 minutes in the freezing cold. We were not expecting that. The Google map took us to the train station, not the hotel, so we ended up walking an extra 20 minutes. Getting home was really stressful. I couldn't find a taxi company that would pick us up at 01:30 and had NO IDEA there was a BUS!!! The tour details only say that the tour ends at 01:30. It doesn't say anywhere that you can end the tour whenever you want! We saw options for transportation between 23:30 and midnight but didn't think those would be options for us since the tour wasn't supposed to end until after 01:00. It wasn't clearly stated that we would be given a thermal suit to wear. I figured it out at the last minute but it wasn't clear if there would be storage space for any items we wanted or needed to remove before putting on the suit. I tried emailing STF with my questions but the responses weren't helpful. The transportation bit is key! We were so stressed that we wouldn't be able to get to the meeting point on time and that we might forfeit our tour and the HIGH COST as well. We ended up having to walk back to Abisko town at the end of the tour as well. It was SO COLD and not the easiest walk, even though the path is fairly well lit.
The food at the dinner was delicious and we met some nice people sitting at the long table. The sky station is super cozy and warm inside, so it's the ideal place to be able to pop outside to see the lights when/if they happen, and then pop back inside when you get cold. The chair lift experience was quite an adventure, too. We got lucky and saw lights on our night, so that made the entire experience worth it.

I give 2 stars only for the food. We were over the moon excited to get to do this activity we planned dinner and northern lights sightseeing and it got cancelled only a couple of hrs before due to bad weather (bare in mind it's not only because of temperatures but it will be close even in the event of wind, rain and snow so it's most likely going to happen). Understandable that it's noone fault if the weather is not optimal, but the whole plan B situation was a total scam to say the least. Dinner was good, we ate at a tipi tend, the set up was great and food delicious HOWEVER the aurora part was just ridiculous. It consisted of just "take a walk around the park" and hope for the best. We requested for a refund and got denied since "it's written on our page" so we end up leaving after dinner and paid for an extra private tour so we finally managed to see the northern lights in Kiruna. Dinner aside, it was a waste of money.

Fantastic place as a base to see the area and enjoy pure, hard hiking. Fabulous food and above all an atmosphere of being one with nature

Chairlift is not for the faint of heart but the view from the top was worth it. The cafe has a very limited selection but the chocolate chocolate chip muffins and hot chocolate were delicious! The service is friendly. Very cozy little cafe. We went up during the day.

We loved this! We went for the dining option, which started with a 20 minute guided walk from the STF Turiststation with our guide for the night Marcus. Having got dressed into a super warm oversuit, we then went up the chairlift - this took a while, 20-25 minutes, as it needs to be stopped to get people on, but we enjoyed hanging around in the dark! The meal itself was lovely, especially the reindeer, the staff were friendly, and we got to meet some lovely people on our table. After dinner, Marcus presented a few slides on the northern lights, before we headed outside for a small "hike" further up to the mountain. Sadly the clouds weren't playing ball so we didn't see the lights, but laying in the snow looking up was great fun. Not the cheapest of evenings, but it as great having the station to ourselves before it opened up to the public later in the evening.

We had just spent the past 2 hours travelling to this attraction by taxi, train and coach. We get to the reception and hit by the sentence.”sorry the cable cart is now broken it should be fixed by the 28th February.” They either offered us a hike up the hill in pitch black or a refund. It had just costed us 4000 sek to visit here and they offered us our 3076 sek back not covering the cost it took us to get there. Not only had we just wasted a day of our holiday we had also wasted nearly 1000 sek. They told us they had only known about it for the past 2-3 hours but didn’t both sending us an email to let us know. If they did send an email we wouldn’t have set off for our journey and would have saved us 4000 sek. Absolutely disgusting service, I do not recommend coming here unless you want to be very disappointed.

Maybe if the group is small, this is a nice thing to do. But when the group is over 30 people, this is an exercise in patience. Patience for everybody to get their suits, patience to get everybody up in the sky station (the lift stops everytime somebody needs to get on, so it takes forever to reach the top), patience to get this group seated in the station (not enough places!) and patience to walk up the snowy hill to the viewpoint. It really isn’t pleasant and while the guide did his best to help everybody, it was not what I would call “a good time”.

We booked this through our travel agent, which provided transportation for us to and from Kiruna.
No northern lights sadly (just before Christmas). Going up the chair lift we had a super clear sky and then right after we got up to the top, the clouds rolled in and didn't leave.
The dinner was good - 3 courses and then tea and coffee included. They offered a wine and beer pairing for each course as well as non-alcoholic versions, just had to pay for that separately. They were great about giving samples to make sure you liked what you were going to pay for (talking about you lingonberry wine!)
There was a talk given and then a guided walk out into the snow. We were the only ones in our group that passed on that, but nice there was something to do since we weren't looking at the northern lights.

We had the replacement program due to weather: “Aurora Lounge”
The replacement program is a joke in very poor taste.
I contacted the European Consumer Center
But ultimately I think I should send the file to DREETS.

We didn't go up because it was too cold. In exchange they gave us an alternative which consisted of a walk a stone's throw from where we slept. Money wasted. Never again!

Hello, the aurora sky station is open in decembrer? To go up to the montain? And the restaurant on the montain? Thanks
Skrevet 7. desember 2020
Hi the sky station is a building at the top of the mountain where you can view the northern lights. It has a small restaurant, toilets and a tall tower to climb(if you want to) to view the lights from.
It is accessed by chairlift which takes between 20 and 35 minutes to get to the top.
The staff there are very knowledgeable on the lights and will give you a whole host of information.
Great place to be if the light come out as no light pollution.

Hi, I am staying at Abisko Turiststation. Do we have to stay at the Skystation if we book a trip to Aurura Skystation / Chairlift or we can come back to the Abisko Turiststation? Do we have to book in advance or one can book at the turiststation after one arrives there?
Skrevet 19. januar 2019
We drove in from Kiruna just for the evening and were lucky enough to book a spot to the Sky Station. I don't believe you can actually stay at the sky station - it opens at 9pm and closes around 1am. You also do not have to stay at the Turiststation hotel to book. I would recommend booking in advance if you can (even by a day or two) just to make sure you don't miss out as it does book up quickly. Have so much fun!

Where do I book the chair lift tickets excluding the exclusive dinner? I tried looking around but see no avail. Only provides the exclusive dinner option which cost 1890 SEK....
Skrevet 22. desember 2018
We booked directly through the little hotel right across the street from the train station and ski lifts
Skrevet 6. februar 2019
Will the sky station be available during 1st week of January 2019? Is there any activities to do at Abisko STF as i understand there is no daylight and its 24hours night time
Skrevet 30. november 2018
Go on their website and check out their calendar. It should show you the holiday opening times. Or do what we did and book a northern lights tour. There are two companies that run tours to suit your needs. Again go online to check them out. That way we didn't miss anything. By the way we were there late December 2017 and there was about 4 hours of sunlight between 10:00am and 2:00pm sunrise to sunset. Have fun, we did

Does anyone know if the chair lift will be working this winter?
Skrevet 17. september 2018
Yes,it should be. We went in late December 2017 and it was operating then. People go up for skiing and to eat at the restaurant.
