My overall experience about this Maasai Ostrich Farm, a disappointment.
Does not measure up to all the hype on the internet about it.

Why - accessing the place is not easy - bad road, very dusty, and no proper signage so you could easily get lost....we used Google Maps, and had to keep asking for directions.
Eventually when we get to the place, both the Farm and the Resort are sooooo....run down.
The facilities in this place are not maintained well, or not at all.
Even finding the Reception, took us quite a while, because things are just not well organised in this place.
The picnic area, the pool, basically everything there looked so run down.

The county government needs to fix this road and the management of the facility also need to continuously maintain it well, to receive visitors.

All in all, I enjoyed the farm tour, getting to know more about these awesome and lovely birds - the Ostriches.

Maasai Ostrich Farm Resort: Nairobi, Kenya
The Ostrich Farm in Nairobi is a great place where you can get up close and personal with ostriches. It is located roughly an hour away from Nairobi on the outskirts of a city called Kitengela. The Ostrich Farm is also about 30 minutes away from the Kenya International Airport. Getting to the farm is a bit tricky but very well worth it. The farm sits on 200 acres of land and there is a bit more to do at the Ostrich Farm than just ride an Ostrich.

Things To Do At The Ostrich Farm in Nairobi
Bird Watching
Eat Ostrich Meat
Ride an Ostrich
Spend a weekend at the Resort
Tour the Ostrich Farm
At first I really didn’t think that the tour of the Ostrich farm would be worth but since it was mating season I got an excellent pictures and video of their mating dances. I got to play “try and peck my finger and camera” with an Ostrich since they are very curious when you walk by. They also try to eat plastic but that is besides the point. I don’t know if I would like to spend an entire weekend at the resort but riding an ostrich and eating an Ostrich (irony I know) was just enough for me.
Video of me riding the Ostrich is coming soon!
Cost To Enter The Ostrich Farm
Once you arrive at the Ostrich Farm there are two options for things to do with the Ostriches besides eat them. You can tour the Ostrich Farm and you can ride the Ostrich. They have two different types of ostriches at the farm with is the Maasai Ostrich (red in color) and the Somali Ostrich with is blue in color (the one you ride) pictured above.
Ride an Ostrich: 500 Shillings ($5, 4 Euros, 3 pounds)
Tour of Ostrich Farm: 300 Shillings ($3, 2.25 Euros, 2 British Pounds)
Ostrich Platter
Portion: 1,000 Shillings
1/2 kg (1.1 lbs) 2,380 Shillings
1 kg (2.2 lbs) 4,750 Shillings

Went there on a sunday and where a bit disappointed as we where not aware that the resort is closed. Got the information that reopening is planned for August 2019. you can still do a farm tour and can learn about breeding ostriches. They also offered the ostrich ride (which we did not do). You can also buy meat and ostrich eggs (meat 2000 KHS per kg, an ostrich egg is 3000 KHS).
Overall a bit run down - but if they do renovate it might get very nice, assume could be a good family place.
So let‘s wait for the reopening and if they invest there (is necessary).

It's a nice day outing and interesting to see the Ostriches (especially the chicks) at close quarters. We went with high expectations but found the place quite basic compared to what we thought it would be. The tour of the farm was good but were disappointed to see that some of the ostriches had injuries from the fencing that had not been attended to so they had big open bleeding wounds. We ordered lunch and some drinks after the tour and when asked for receipts, were told that they did not issue any (we found this very odd). All in all, it's good for one visit. We wouldn't make it a habit of going there.

The Ostrich farm is located about 40km from city. The tourism department does nothing to promote this place.
No sign boards or proper roads leading to the Farm.
I wasted 2 hours locating the place only to find that it was closed.
I suggest you call before u go.

you pay ksh. 300/ per person and you get a tour guide. There was so much to learn about the birds that I never knew. You can even have a ride on them for a cost of ksh. 500/.you can then have a picnic since by the time of my visit the hotel was closed. There is a swimming pool too.

We came here on a daytrip from Nairobi. It was an easy drive. On arrival we booked a tour of the farm and were shown the various kinds of ostriches. My kids loved it. They got to run around and later even ride an ostrich. The lunch was in the a quiet garden setting. If you like, you can buy ostrich here to take home for your bbq.

Nestled a short(ish – about 1.5 hours including weekend traffic) drive away from Nairobi, this place can be a nice option for a day trip from Nairobi.

The farm is one of only two in Africa, and is likely to be a unique experience for most folks. The place isn’t huge, so you can see/do everything in an afternoon, but since it is also a hotel, you can lounge in their grounds / pool if that’s your thing, and make a day out of it.

The main attraction, as the name suggests, is the Ostrich interactions. You can ride them around a short ring - it only takes a minute, so basically this is for the experience and the photo opportunity and not a massive riding experience. My wife enjoyed the ride, our kids (6 and 4 at the time) found the big birds too intimidating to try riding them. I can’t remember the exact costs, but think it was around KES 500 for an adult and KES 300 per child (about $5 / $3 at current exchange rates).

We then took a tour of the farm itself. It was interesting, you get to see different age groups, learn about how they are bred etc. We were lucky and got to see two birds getting it on, as well as a separate Ostrich laying an egg right in front of us. Definitely the highlight of our tour!

They also have other activities (at least on weekends), like horse-riding (more like horse guided walk in a small circle for similar prices as the ostrich rides – a bit overpriced in my opinion but our daughter loved it), and a variety of games on the playground.

Finally, you can sit and enjoy some food, with Ostrich on the grill being the default choice. As a Swiss, I am no stranger to ostrich meat, but it is certainly a rarity in these parts of the world. The meat was delicious, very fresh (not surprisingly) and melts in your mouth.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was pretty full (maybe 60-80 people on the grounds) but we were the only expats, so it seems this is still more of a local hangout. Not sure why – couldn’t see any obvious reason for this!

You get to tour the grounds of the only commercial ostrich farm in Kenya, very informative presentation. Walking tour include feeding the larger ostriches and culminates with an opportunity to ride them and on certain dates race them. They also have a restaurant that serves ostrich, a red meat akin to beef steaks. It tastes similar to beef, a bit more tender and sweeter.
