Interesting guided tour of the castle and coin caves. The one with the coins is more attractive geologically, both are worth it. The guides are good and professional.

As others have pointed out, poor ticketing system. You drive to the top only to find out you have to go back and buy tickets at the bottom, except they’re closed for siesta until 14:30, so you wait for them to open, and then the next tour is 16:00, so now you’ve wasted 3 hours to get in. Still, absolutely worth it! Don’t give up, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see real cave art, not some replica crap like Altirma. Great one hour guided tour, loved it. No photos allowed, but that’s ok. Go now before it closes to the public.

We couldn't see the cave because we hadn't booked in advance and it was full. Lack of foresight on our part, nothing to blame on the organization in this regard.
What caught our attention very negatively is that the three available public services were out of service, both the women's and men's and what is worse, also the wheelchair users.
The signs apologizing are nothing more than a toast to the sun and inefficiency; During the Easter holidays, visitors cannot be treated like this. If the breakdown is serious and sudden, portable toilets are installed. It's the minimum.

A very interesting visit for a first contact with the original cave paintings, not a replica like in Altamira. The guide Víctor kindly answered all questions. He made an effort to conduct the visit in English. The ground is slippery, but the guide goes at an adequate pace, indicating the best areas to pass.

I was surprised by the paintings, the spectacular nature of the cave, the conservation and the magnificent explanations of our guide. You move directly to a place where our ancestors lived, and to information about the geology of the area through the years. Located in an incredible location, 100% recommended

The cave itself, the access, where they are still doing excavations are impressive. They told us that under the castle hill this cave is connected to the coins and many others. The explanations were great, here they use red colors and combine the animal figures with the hands. They are really worth it.
We made a reservation to visit this cave and the Las Coins cave on the same morning, prior to visiting the Interpretation Center. In this way the evolution of the paintings can be better contextualized.

During the visit to the caves of Altamira, much publicized but still a reconstruction, we find a sign in the museum that talks about these caves, which sound original, they can be visited and they are 20 minutes from us. We therefore decide to go and see them immediately.
I recommend always buying tickets online first, if they are finished call because they always have more available on site.
Don't go directly to the caves, you have to stop about 2 km before at the rock art museum because the tickets are sold there, otherwise, as happened to us, you will have to go up and down and take two useless walks, with the risk that in the meantime tickets run out.
A 45 minute tour at 13 degrees (take sweatshirts) explanation only in Spanish but we managed to understand everything, findings ranging from Neanderthal man to homo sapiens, it is a unique experience to immerse yourself in millions of years ago among the rock drawings, hands, bison, moon phases... I recommend everyone to visit this place, if you have little time forget Altamira and come here. Too bad you can't photograph anything inside the cave but rightly so

Stupid ticketing system. Signs all point to the caves but when you get there they say you have to get your ticket at the Rock Art Centre first, and that's in the town! By the time we got down again it was siesta so we missed our opportunity altogether.
Improve the system or signage folks!

We went here during our kid's nap time, while grandparents watched them. It was a nice grown-up escape! We drove there and parked in Cuevas del Monte Castillo- Aparcamiento. There are around 50 parking spots. There's a gate across the road so you can't go any further so it's on foot from there.

We ended up doing this cave second, after Las Monedas, but this cave is right at the entrance, near where you'd get your tickets so it's easy to get to. You take a series of steps down into the area, before the actual cave tour even starts. Of the two caves, El Castillo & Las Monedas, the other one was our favorite but we still thought this one was fantastic. I think this one is meant to be the jewel of the area with all the hand-blown prints. Unlike when we saw Las Monedas, where it was just the two of us on the tour, there were at least 6, maybe 8-9, of us on this tour. The guide asked what languages we all spoke. I think we all either spoke English as our first language or could all understand it so that's what the lady spoke the entire time, but she was willing to speak a couple different languages for different people to understand.

Brilliant experience being in a cave surrounded by paintings from 30,000 years ago. They only do tours in Spanish of which we only speak a bit so were struggling a little bit to keep up with the guide, but he kindly did a quick review of the key points in English as we walked from location to location. Incredible experience.

Don't forget to collect your tickets from the museum at the bottom of the hill in the village. We missed the sign and had to go back.

If in a big enough group they might do a purely English tour.
