Great fun apart from the on site catering which was very expensive and extremely poor quality. Plenty of space got grandson to run around.

If you enjoy history, I would highly recommend a vist here. Lots to see and lovely walks and Countryside. Could do with more signage to explain about the buildings etc, as most have none at all. The 'Working Farm' was rather a ghost town and didn't look like it had been 'working' for a century or two. If you're not into History, you may be bored. Let down by the cafe, which looks like it's run by volunteers, but still charge usual prices, so you do kind of expect to get usual kind of service / food. I would advise bring your own food, as there's plenty of benches, if you don't mind lugging it around with you.

World war 2 house and huts very good. It was all fantastic, mission hall, prefab house, toll gate, Iron age house a bit sobering. Excellent for children 10 and over and for older people. We were very grateful for use of mobility scooter, and the golf cart for tired legs is also a great service. What a wonderful place
..thanks to all the volunteers for creating this and preserving all these great buildings

We held our wedding here and booked a tour for our guests. It’s a really casual low key venue nothing over manufactured. Lots of picnic areas and space for children to run around. We appreciated the free water bottle filling station. We had a great day here.

This could be a brilliant attraction but it is pretty lacklustre. The buildings themselves are interesting but they are not “set” very well in terms of items of interest being displayed in them. That wouldn’t be an issue if there was more information on them, but there isn’t, meaning there just in any enough to look at. Other open air museums (eg St Fagans in South Wales) do this far better - a little inspiration and investment could really improve this site. Also, the woodland walk isn’t at all pram-friendly.

We visited the Chiltern Open Air Museum on an autumn weekend. Once past the two sets of security guards for the $200m+ Apple TV film production of ” Masters of the Air” we thought the museum must be closed as the car park was almost empty, but it was not, just not very busy.

The site contains more than 30 rescued buildings spanning two millennia of local history. My favourite buildings (in no particular order) were the 1826 High Wycombe Toll House, the Edwardian public toilets (whose period sound effects were a bit off-putting when try to go about one’s business) and the Iron Age Roundhouse. I believe the museum also has more than a dozen buildings in store waiting for the funds for them to be re-built. The most amazing thing to see was the Cherry Pickers Ladder (one of which I think was 18m long).

We enjoyed making a candle at a workshop at the far end of the site – but felt sorry for the guy running it as we saw no-one else in that part of the museum (the café that used to be there was closed).

Whilst this museum may be smaller than the similar Weald and Downland Living Museum at Singleton in West Sussex (home of the TV programme “The Repair Shop”) it was definitely worth a visit.

Well… a game of two halves. We were greeted by a receptionist (Saturday, 12:30am) who immediately and assertively challenged us for proof of our 2 for 1 vouchers. I was surprised by this as the website was unclear and I thought the ticket I had printed was the entry voucher. The receptionist was indignant, cold and unfriendly and we very nearly turned around and left. I asked the receptionist to calm down and we willingly paid another entry fee without further argument from our side. It left a very unpleasant vibe just as we arrived.
From thereon things improved. The volunteers inside the venue were all very friendly and informative. We had never visited before and the volunteers managed to save the day.
I would suggest the front of house staff could do with some training on customer care.

My wife and I visited the site in Sept 2021, we enjoyed the visit but have one or two observations, The Museum is not very well signposted and could easily be missed, There were only 3 disabled parking spaces, and the car park was very rough and rocky, if the visitor is Disabled they may have difficulty getting around, my wife uses a small powered scooter and she found that the paths were very rough and rocky, if a person is using a normal wheelchair it would be very uncomfortable for them or whoever is pushing them, We could not see any Accesible Toilets, but the site Cafe was closed so the toilets could have been there , saying that the cafe is at the very far end of the site.
The buildings were well looked after, but more information about them is needed, items seemed to be just left in them with no information about them at all.
Staff were excellent, friendly and always asking if help was required
we had a good few hours there, but I feel that a good opportunity is missing by just a little more thought and planning,

What an excellent day we had. Tuesday is family day at the museum in the Buckinghamshire holidays. Extra activities are available for children. Today there was clay face making, nature crowns and craft bags to take home. My 6 yo loved the Victorian school as they have been learning about it in Y1. She went back three times to play with the toys and be a strict Victorian teacher!! Also loved the animals and exploring the house. Plenty of free parking and space for picnics. Toilets spread across area.
