An absolutely stunning place and lovely for a gentle walk, with some amazing views from the look out tower. The only or reason I took a point off, was the visitor centre and toilets are closed on a weekend, which seems a bit strange, considering most people will surely visit at this time. We came on a Friday and found the facilities handy, but there was little information about any birds and no staff to ask. We didn’t see any birds, but we got some amazing glimpses of large birds of prey on the drive over and would have loved to speak to someone about them!

I love wildlife and bird so we made a significant detour off the main north coast road to head inland to Forsinard Flows RSPB reserve. Its about 20 mins drive up the very long country road with just the odd farm vehicle passing. When we arrived at the station there was just one car, from a family out on the Flows ahead of us, and the visitor centre with toilet was closed (mid morning, Sunday 20 June). The walk out to the viewpoint tower had interesting plaques of information about the bog, but there was virtually no birdlife. Perhaps this was because June was relatively dry and so not much moisture in the bogs. Then there were no information boards in the viewing tower at all - I expected to see boards detailing the birds seen recently, or to look for, etc. Perhaps this was in the visitor centre in the station, which we could not get into. Anyway, it's an unusual area and had some interest but not worth the drive off our route to see it, to be honest.

We parked just by the station, stopped then in the station building for small visitor centre, and toilets !! Cross the line, and the boardwalk is just on the right . Beautiful walk over to the viewing tower, from where we saw a large herd of Red Deer, a red kite was also overhead. Great views over this blanket bog . Circular route back . After reading we’d need to leave our dogs in the car found we were able to take them with us on a lead .

We arrived in the early evening, after the Visitors Centre adjacent to the rail station had closed. We took the boardwalk out to the viewing tower and it was spectacular. What a fascinating ecosystem with its own stark beauty; we especially enjoyed the interpretive labels along the rock walk beyond the tower--very well done.

Visited without knowing what to expect; was impressed with a lot of very informative displays, and material that was aimed at a very broad range of audiences. I was vaguely aware of the Flow Country, dating back to when the government in the 1980's was encouraging drainage and inappropriate planting, so it was interesting to see how things have moved on since that time.

Look forward to going back when we have more time to spend looking around the Flow Country.

What a spot in the middle of nowhere. Park opposite what was the station. Have a look inside. There is a toilet. There is also interesting information. Obviously pick the time of year for your visit. And obviously dress appropriately
There is a very low key tea shed just up the road.

First class visit. RSPB centre is in the local (small) train station and gives a fascinating overview on this enormous “bog” area and how vital it is to our well being. The short walk through the reserve to the funky viewing tower is lovely and then the views front the top are excellent - well worth a bit of your time.

Drove up the 14 miles from the coast road. Well worth it. The visitors centre is inside the train station and is well-organised. We learnt a lot about peat bogs and their flora and fauna. We had not realised their importance prior to this visit. The walk up to the viewing tower is easy going via the boardwalk. There are great views from the top. It is possible to come back via a different route across flagstones. The whole experience is free - we were more than happy to make a voluntary donation given the great work the RSPB is doing here. Our only regret is that the local hotel has closed (up for sale) and the nearby tea rooms were closed.
