Khumjung Gompa is a Buddhist monastery located in the Khumjung village in the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal. The monastery is situated at an elevation of approximately 3,790 meters (12,434 feet) above sea level and is surrounded by breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountains.

The Khumjung Gompa was founded in the 16th century and is one of the oldest and most important monasteries in the region. The monastery is home to a community of Buddhist monks who devote their lives to studying and practicing the teachings of Buddha.

One of the most impressive features of Khumjung Gompa is its intricate architecture and beautiful artwork. The monastery's walls are adorned with colorful murals and paintings that depict scenes from Buddhist scripture and tradition. The intricate woodwork and carvings on the doors and windows of the monastery are also a testament to the skilled craftsmanship of the local artisans.

Visitors to Khumjung Gompa are welcome to explore the monastery and to learn more about the teachings and practices of Buddhism. The monks are often happy to share their knowledge and to answer any questions that visitors may have.

In addition to the monastery itself, Khumjung village is also home to a number of other attractions that are worth exploring. These include the Khumjung School, which was founded by Sir Edmund Hillary and is still in operation today, and the Khunde Hospital, which was also established by Hillary to provide medical care to the local community.

Also referred to as the Khumjung Monastery. The Gompa is an easy walk from almost any place in town. The interior is beautiful . Of course the highlight is the scalp of the yeti. They have a nice brochure explaining some of the sights. The exterior is in great shape with the prayer wheels nicely painted. Worth a visit is you are staying in town.

I visited the monastery while staying for several days at the Everest View Hotel, located on a ridge above Khumjung. Easy hike down and back up, so we would come down into Khumjung/Khunde each day to have lunch and explore. This small jewel of a monastery is definitely worth a visit, a nice excursion from either Namche Bazaar or if you are staying at the Everest View.

The Khumjung Gompa is a Buddhist monastery situated in the beautiful Khumjung valley. Khumjung Gompa is the claim of a yeti scalp. But it is not sure it is real or duplicate. People belive that it is original Yati scalp. Scientific testing should be done by Nepal government. Cost to see the yeti scalp was 250 Rupees. The Monastery keep yeti scalp is enclosed in a transparent glass box and you are allowed to take photos of it. It was definitely interesting to see it.

We are here for one project. Central Department of Geography, Tribhuvan university and Nepal tourism board are going to make geo database. I had stopped in Khumjung valley during my research and visited the gompa while I walked around the village.

We were told that this monastery no longer has resident Monks and is only maintained for various festivals and religious ceremonies during the year. Monks from surrounding monasteries do reside here during those events. The Yeti scalp is the centerpiece, but the rest of the monastery is more interesting. Entry, as of our visit, is NRs 300. Not sure I would make a special trip here, but if yetis are your thing......

During an acclimatisation day at Namche we explored local villages. A number of us felt the effects of altitude that day and meeded to take things easy.
After our first sight of Everest we toddled down to the village and included the monastery where the scalp of the yeti is held.
Great to see local people going about their normal roles

エベレストビューホテルからクムジュンに向かってトレッキングしました。
1時間ほど歩くとクムジュン村の入口にゴンパがあります。
地震のせいかゴンパにはひびが沢山入っており可哀想でした。
