Had a lovely few hours here. The gardens are beautiful. Quite a lot of walking and quite a few steps which are steep in places. Loved the Chinese garden. Plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by.

No access for people with walkers, wheelchairs, prams or buggies. Unbelievable in 2022. From the entrance you have to climb steep steps to access the attraction. There is a token disabled access about a mile away through a gate that gives access to the lower gardens but you still can’t get to any of the cafes as there are steps that side as well. So basically if you have anyone who has difficulty walking, either younger or older, unless you want to actually carry them up steep stone stairs, nobody is having lunch today. I’m not sure that is even legal nowadays? We asked about improvin the access and the National Trust people said they didn’t want to spoil the historic integrity of the site. A triumph of the dead over the living.

I visited for the first time with my parents on Sunday, to explore the grounds and to make the most of the nice weather. Due to the China Garden being closed for repairs, we got lost a couple of times as some of the pathways were closed off. We didn’t know that this part of the garden would be closed, but a lovely volunteer Evon happily showed us parts of the China Garden that were of access, and took us inside the temple. Even though she was busy she still made time for us, and told us a lot about the gardens. We hope to return soon when the China Garden reopens. Thank you Evon and to all the volunteers!

Great day out. One path to the Chinese Garden was shut, but everything else was open. Lots of volunteers out tending to the plants who were very welcoming and happy to talk.
The cafe was well worth a visit for the hot sausage bread roll!

Absolutely beautiful in the summer. We visited whilst a one-way system was currently implemented, and we found that this actually helped us to see everything that there was here. We’ve been to this place more than you can count, really couldn’t recommend it enough.

A absolutely perfect National Trust property- hidden gardens that seem to go on forever, dedicated volunteers and a really interesting geology section! Of course a lovely little tea room too!

A wonderful walk around the themed gardens.
This is free with the national trust membership.
I wouldn’t pay to got there as essentially it’s is just walking around in gardens.
It would be nice to access more of the building but it’s someone home.
However it is very picturesque and the cream tea and scones are lovely.
Kids will enjoy running around here but I do feel that this is more for adults and children would become Somewhat bored.
There is ample parking, but I wouldn’t recommend for people with limited mobility as it’s lots of walking and steps.
In the winter there is a lot of preparation for the spring so there aren’t many flowers to see and it’s essentially just soil beds - it also get a bit boggy underfoot.

Another National Trust (NT) property, giving free access to NT members. The house is not accessible to the public (apart from the restaurant on the ground floor). Biddulph Garden is not one garden but a series of pocket gardens that add up to the whole. The Chinese garden is particularly lovely with its pond, brimming with fish as is the 'stump' garden. The Dahlia Walk was in full colour and should not be missed. If you walk around the whole garden it is just under a mile and a half in distance.
Refreshments are also available but again due to Covid only a limited menu is available. We arrived at the gardens at just on 1330 and went straight to the restaurant for lunch. There was only a very limited selection of sandwiches available but fresh ones were made to order and brought to our table by the very willing, helpful staff.

We have wanted to visit for a while and when we saw they were doing a Halloween trail thought it would be great to visit this time of year with young ones. Even without the theme I can imagine it's still a fun and lovely place to visit and we spent a good few hours there. The Halloween trail was good fun and the witch's cottage was a nice touch and we enjoyed it. If you have children make sure you go on down the track to the woodland play area as it wasn't well sign posted. I can imagine it looks beautiful in the summer so we would definitely visit again.

Thank you for your helpful review! We will be coming up from London by train without car access. Can you recommend someplace not terribly far away from the garden to stay as we would like to visit on two consecutive days. We understand there is a bus from Stoke-on-Trent. Any information you could provide would be helpful and so very appreciated. With kind regard!!!

Sorry I don't know. We stayed at The Vicarage, Cranage which isn't too far away but not sure if it's on a bus route. The Vicarage is superb - highly recommend

What is the significance of the Golden Bull sculpture in the Chinese garden please?

The bull is, in Chinese religions, a symbol of self realisation - stages of 'The Buddha mind - our real nature'; however, the fact that it is golden has roots in various other religions The bull was worshiped in most of the ancient world - Mr. Bateman was clearly fascinated in all religions, judging by the other statues at Biddulph, although deeply Christian himself.

My wife needs to use a walker/wheel chair much of the time as she cannot walk far & has difficulty with more than a couple of steps and going up long slopes. Reviews indicate that there is little access for such users in the gardens, the tea room & shop and even the disabled toilets (the tea room is said to have 7 steps & no ramp in one review). Is this correct?

As the house is built on a terrace above the gardens, there are numerous steps (not to mention getting to and through the follies).
