Niet veel toeristen weten de regio Mu Cang Chai te vinden, en dat is de charme van dit gebied. Dat én de hellingen vol rijstterrassen. De rijstterrassen van Mu Cang Chai tot de mooiste van Vietnam behoren. Er zijn vele uitzichtpunten waar vandaan u een panoramisch uitzicht over dit unieke landschap heeft. De omgeving is het beste te voet te verkennen. Wandelend langs die rijstterrassen ziet u de locals van stammen als de zwarte H’Mong en Thai aan het werk in hun kleurrijke traditionele klederdracht. De rijst wordt vanaf april geplant en in september/oktober geoogst. Vlak voor de oogst is de omgeving het meest fotogeniek, want dan staan de terrassen vol met wuivende rijsthalmen.
We zijn vanuit Son La naar Mu Chang Chai gereden. Een mooie route, die steeds bergachtiger werd. Onderweg hebben we diverse stops gemaakt. In dit gebied wonen voornamelijk de Zwarte Thai en de Hmong. Zodra een vrouw van de Zwarte Thai getrouwd is moet ze haar haar opsteken.
We zijn vanuit Son La naar Mu Chang Chai gereden. Een mooie route, die steeds bergachtiger werd. Onderweg hebben we diverse stops gemaakt. In dit gebied wonen voornamelijk de Zwarte Thai en de Hmong. Zodra een vrouw van de Zwarte Thai getrouwd is moet ze haar haar opsteken.

Worth the 6 hour drive from Hanoi. one of the most spectacular landscapes, filled with friendly and welcoming people. A massive contrast to the cities, very few tourists and extremely worth the trip.

Mình đi vào mùa lúa chín nên khung cảnh và ruộng bậc thang nơi đây rất đẹp.
Người dân hiền hoà, thân thiện.
Các món ăn dân dã (xôi, bắp nấu, bắp nướng) nơi đây rất ngon.
Nếu có dịp ghé nơi đây, mọi người cũng nên trải nghiệm bộ môn dù lượn, nhaaaa. Khi chuẩn bị xuất phát thì có cảm giác hơi sợ xíu (sợ dù không bung, rơi xuống thì chỉ có nước...chớt), nhưng khi đã bay lên được rùi thì cảm giác sẽ thiệt là...yomost!

I highly recommend you guys to take your trip here during harvest season every year. I was here in this Sep and all I can say is AMAZING... I stayed at Le Champ , very beautiful resort in Tu Le and visit this area and its surroundings.

Mu Cang Chai district is located in a high region of Yen Bai province, nearly 300 km from Hanoi to the Northwest. From the middle of September, the rice is on the hillside, the field turns bright yellow, attracts thousands of visitors to admire the view of the most beautiful terraced fields in the country.
Located at the foot of the majestic Hoang Lien Son range, Mu Cang Chai terraced fields are a cultural heritage created by local people for generations.
In 2007, terraced fields in 3 communes of La Pan Tan, De Xu Phinh and Che Cu Nha were recognized by the Government as a National Landscape. Not only that, Mu Cang Chai is also in the top 10 most beautiful terraces in the world.
In the last days of September, I and my friends who were passionate about photography soon invited each other to explore and conquer the roads, to enjoy the natural beauty bestowed with the labor of people living in Northwestern mountain.
Each of the terraced fields winding like golden waves in the dazzling sunlight capturing those present.
This is the second time I have come to discover Mu Cang Chai in the ripe rice season, but my feelings have not changed. The beauty of the mountains still gives me great surprises. According to the people, this year the rice was harvested throughout the terraced fields. People of Thai and Mong ethnic groups are also excited and happy in the harvest day.
Sometimes on hillsides and a few plots, interweaving between yellow and green is the brown color of harvested fields. Adorned with the majestic Northwest painting are small sheds on the hillsides. Perhaps, for a man who loves nature, mountains, to witness and enjoy these moments is the luck and happiness in me.
Raspberry hill in La Pan Tan commune is one of the famous destinations in the Mu Cang Chai golden season, attracting tourists to visit. From above, covering the hillside, you still see this place interwoven with shiny green and yellow colors.
The beautiful Mu Cang Chai nature painting is "painted" on 2,200 hectares of magnificent terraced fields which are golden to the heart of anyone visiting here at any time. Back to me the impressive image.

Очень красивые рисовые поля, причем не надо никуда идти или далеко ехать, поля находятся вдоль дороги ведущей в город. Сам город произвел хорошее впечатление, не то, что Сапа. В Мукангчай местное население еще пока не избалованы туристами и нет навязчивых кругом услуг так называемых местных гидов и т.д. Определенно рекомендую!

私の旅行時期は３月でしたので、棚田は田植えが終わったところとこれからのところと混在していました。しかし、山の上から谷底まで、まるで等高線のように手入れされた棚田は行く価値がありました。田植えが終わり、一面緑色の棚田や収穫期の黄金色の棚田は、見事の一語に尽きると思います。

Wie kann ich mir die reisterrassen im märz vorstellen?
Bonjour. Je pars avec ma famille au Vietnam en décembre. Je voulais leur montrer les rizières mais en m informant je me suis rendue compte que cela tombait après les récoltes. Pensez vous que nous devrions quand même prendre le bus et nous rendre dans la région ?

In December, the rice have just been growing. I think you should not go to Mu Cang Chai.
Instead of that, you can choose 1 among these:
(1) Sapa with not only rice fields but also other landscape
(2) Mộc Châu - mountainous area with a lot of flower field.
Or consider to travel by the end of Jan., Sapa or Hà Giang will welcome you with a lot of peach and plum flower on the mountain (near Tet Holiday in Vietnam)

The distance from Hanoi - Mu Cang Chai is around 300 km
You can travel by motorbike ~ 8 hours => quite tired
Or travel by sleeper car name Hưng Thành, departure from 18h everyday at Mỹ Đình Car Park in Hanoi ~ 6 hours.
I saw a lot of foreign visitors in this car. I have just come back from Mu Cang Chai on 23th Sep.

Planning to visit Mu Cang Chai rice fields for 3days photography tour from Singapore. We are only two people and not luxury travelers. Could anybody suggest any suitable tour guide/operator for the same based on your experience?

Does anyone have any photographs of Mu cang chai in november? We want to see what it looks like, we wanted to see the rice fields but since it's not harvesting season, will it be just mud? Is it still worth the travel? Thanks :)

Mu Cang Chai has just been through a natural disaster so the harvesting season might change or even worse, there's none now in September and October in some flood area. Normally, all the rice would be harvested by the end of October and no rice left on the field, not even water. However, destination doesn't matter, you could enjoy the road, and try Bản Tú Lệ 40km away from Mu Cang Chai downtown via Khau Phạ hill.

Hello,
We are still doubting to go to Mu Cang Chai or Sapa during the month of July.
Mu Cang Chai is less touristy but is it comparable to Sapa in seeing colourful ethnic minority groups? It seems that the landscape of Sapa looks more romantic than Mu Cang Chai or am I wrong?

Mu Cang Chai looks amazing, I am looking around for ideal tours but most of them only seem to accommodate large groups and small groups of 2 people are charged significantly more. I was wondering if anyone knows if I can find any local tour guides in Mu Cang Chai which can bring us around? Also a huge plus if I can directly support the local community there through tourism rather than going through agents.
