We wanted to camp here for one night. The visitor center recommended that we go to Castle Rock Camp in Clear Creek Canyon. It is operated with the permission of the nearby Fremont Indian State Park.
The area is at an altitude of 1890 meters and is very easy to reach via exit 17 of I-70. There are well-laid out pitches of various sizes; we were alone in the area.
A small stream flows through the wooded campground; it is surrounded by striking light-colored rocks. There are hiking trails and access to ATV trails, but there was too much snow here at the time of our visit. At night, a beautiful starry sky could be seen. This campground is worth recommending.

Unfortunately the visitor center was closed, we would have liked to have seen the museum, but at least there was a brochure for a self-guided tour of the area. There are a few petroglyphs and a nice walk, a little further away there are more impressive petroglyphs and we were almost alone here. It is not the most impressive park, but it is definitely worth a visit - ideally when the visitor center is open, then you might also get other useful information that could have enhanced our visit a little.

This is a beautiful ride up into the mountain and it’s an amazing place. They have a little walk path where you could see all the stuff and then you could do some hiking on your own. I can’t wait to go back this year

We stopped here to see Indian art and relics. Park is well done with a small museum, toilets and facilities. The walk to view petroglyphs, etc is amazing. Great value at $10.

For $10 a carload, you can explore this amazing state park and see so many extremely well preserved pictographs. It was incredible! Start at the museum and watch the 13 minute video. It was very insightful to understand what to see. The museum is small but has some artifacts worth seeing. They have a nice gift shop , too with jewelry, baskets, etc.
The loop trail that circles the museum is paved and accessible for all ages and walking abilities, and there are so many clearly visible art pictures that you can see from the paved trail. The granary on the end of the parking lot is also accessible for everyone . The other trails are hiking trails, not strenuous, but you will need good walking shoes, and if visiting in the summer, consider a hat and sunscreen as there is not much shade. You can hike as long as you like taking each trail and loop as you have time for. The rock art is not named and there are no signs on these trails to tell you to “ look here” . Just look and you will see as the rock art is so plentiful.
The best time to see the images is on an overcast day or early evening. You need to drive to some of them , but they are so worth it. There is a nice shaded picnic area, near a restored cabin as well.

This place was recommended as a stop on the way home from our vacation. Very unexpected! Loved it! The museum was small, but very nice. There’s a Pit house set up outside that you can climb in to and explore. The short trail around the museum had some amazing rock art from ancient natives. They will give you a map where you can drive short distances and take short hikes to see other rock art. I teach, so this was my jam. SO worth the stop!

Beautiful petroglyphs throughout the park, I did several short hikes that were all very easy. Recommend the Cave of 100 Hands, Sheep Shelter Trail, Parade of Rock Art, and Court of Ceremonies. It was not very crowded so mainly had trails to myself. They also have a nice museum and gift shop. The park is right next to Interstate 70 so you do hear the traffic noise, but it is also a convenient place to stop for a few hours without having to drive far from the highway. Would very much recommend.

Love the petroglyphs but tragic that part of it was bulldozed for a highway. Graffiti looks so much better when it is a few hundred years old!

Small, EXCELLENT museum and movie. Heartbreaking true story of uncovering Indian villages but "having" (no, no, no) to bulldoze and level them, and build a highway over them . Some artifacts were found and saved. It's shameful how America does NOT value preserving their heritage like other countries, but would rather knock down and build over for progress, thereby obliterating important things forever.
The gift shop is half the size of the museum! Lots of great selections of baskets, jewelry, T-shirts of course, ice cream. Something for everyone.
So many trails and hikes to take! Unfortunately our group got there when it was super hot. We will come back in the Fall or Spring.

A lot of beautiful hikes (and most are short)! And a lot of cool pictographs and petroglyphs, too! Only drawback is that part of the Centennial Trail is on the side of the road, but not that bad.

I am a collector of Indian/First Nation tribal, inter-tribal, and related associations lapel pins. My collection now numbers more than 500 pins issued by native organizations from the Arctic islands to the Rio Grande River.
Is there an Anasazi State Park lapel pin?
If yes, how might I obtain such? I appreciate your kind assistance to this distant stranger.
Thanks, Eliot Kalman, 13710 Della Drive #303, Athens, OH 45701
